"A fine cigar is the essence of life. The tobacco plant comes from the earth, from which we ourselves were created. Like ourselves, each leaf grows and is nurtured individually, acquiring its own characteristics, and is then graded, sorted, and matured according to their special abilities. As tobacco comes to its graduation in the making of cigars, as with the making of adults, some is left on the cutting room table and become ordinary, run-of-the-mill products. Some graduate into leadership and areas of responsibility, but a few achieve greatness, and even a touch of immortality." -Prince Sined Yar Maharg

Medium bodied Connecticut shade wrapper provides smooth draw and good burn line. Somewhat light on tasting notes, but did get alittle hay/grass and light cedar. Overall a nice smoke and paired with french press coffee black made a nice morning.

Humidor time: 184 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 58, foot - 60
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with a soft spot at the head. It also has a foot-band that says "Blended by Jesus Martinez". Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, citrus, and a hint of butter. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix and that buttery/citrusy combo to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC awhile back and I think this was the first smoke I've had from this brand that wasn't a connecticut-shade. Very nice smoke it was with both flavors and construction checking all the right boxes. Would definitely smoke this one again. (32/35)

Firm, oil-shiny dark brown wrapper, no veins.  PLA grassy wood; PLT old wood & hay; PLD moderate.  An easy toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn, & a sand & hay smoke.  Slightly sour wood notes, earth & just a touch of black pepper in mouth & nose start off.  Flavor strength is medium plus.  The wood loses the sour, a bit of nuts joins & the pepper eases in the 1/3.  A ghost of chocolate tries to insinuate in the 2nd 1/3 but struggles against the other flavors.  The last 1/3 brings a touch of leather & the profile ends up as earth, leather, wood & nuts with only a bare hint of chocolate on the finish.  The body is medium.  Another good EC.

Humidor time: 183 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 63, foot - 62
Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, a closed foot, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors gradually mellowing a bit through the first third and the body receding towards medium+. This slightly mellower profile then stayed consistent through the remainder. Pretty tasty, overall, with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume slightly below optimal, and a wavy burn to start. I quickly gave it a touch-up as the closed foot was having trouble burning evenly right out of the gate and this helped to even the burn. A 2nd shallow V-cut was also applied and this had no immediate effect on smoke output although it then gradually reached optimal about an inch in to the first third. The ash fell at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued a bit wavily through the 2nd third, then got lopsided going into the last third and a touch-up was needed with things then being uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output dropped somewhat in the 2nd third while it was burning lopsidedly but were otherwise optimal from the first third on. (13/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their COTM selections awhile back. It's advertised as being an attempt to recreate the Cuban Partagas No. 4 and I don't know how close it comes to that stick in terms of flavor, but it was at least tasty and enjoyable. It suffered from somewhat mediocre construction, unfortunately, and loses points for that due to the elevated struggle factor. I'd smoke it again, though, just to see if a 2nd sample might perform better. (28/35)

Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, a small patch of missing wrapper at the foot, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, spice, and a hint of coffee. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third and the body receding towards medium+. This slightly mellower profile then stayed consistent through the remainder. Pretty tasty, overall, with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and a wavy burn to start where the wrapper was missing at the foot. The burn evened out through the first half inch or so with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. A really nice smoke it was with both flavors and construction checking all the right boxes and I'd definitely smoke it again. No idea what it is with a band on, but given it's an AJ stick, it could be one of his New World or San Lotano sticks.  Worthy smokes, all of them... (31/35)

Humidor time: 181 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 55
Appearance and construction: A few minor veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and hints of butter and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very tasty and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling on my shirt just past 1" leaving no cone behind. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. It's a Nicaraguan puro made at one of AJ's factories in Esteli and was a fine smoke with both flavors and construction checking all the right boxes. Would definitely smoke this one again. (32/35)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a very spicy retro and notes of rich wood, citrus, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors gradually mellowing through the first third and the body receding towards medium+ where it stayed through the remainder. Quite tasty, at least through the first third, but somewhat less so after the body receded. It actually became kind of average and run-of-the-mill after that very tasty first third. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (22/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and a slightly wavy burn. I quickly gave it a 2nd shallow V-cut but this had only a small effect on smoke output. The burn continued a bit wavily but self-correcting through the first third with the flaky ash falling past 1" leaving no cone behind. The burn got lopsided in the 2nd third and a touch-up was needed. A wrapper split developed from the head around this point and this resulted in a very uneven and ragged burn through the remainder with another touch-up needed in the last third before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output were intermittently optimal from about the half-way point on but this never reached what I'd call an enjoyable smoking experience with frequent double-puffing needed to get good smoke output. (8/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back but it turned out to be kind of a sad smoke what with all the maintenance needed along the way. Top that off with kind of average flavors for most of it and it all ended up being a stick I wouldn't be very interested in smoking again and then only to see if a 2nd sample might perform better. I certainly won't be buying more of these. As a side-note, these are made by Aganorsa using their tobacco, so this unfortunate smoking experience was kind of surprising... (20/35)
