So it's been warm and my wife is out of town so I decided to put some tools to work which have been loafing all winter and build something useful. Started with a piece of cherry about 6 feet long. Chopped it into handy sized pieces and went to work...

Ken,

First thing I had to do was square up an edge. Then I found the narrowest piece and ripped the others close to that size on the bandsaw before sending them through the planer to get them all the same width and clean up the sawn edge.

Then after the boards were square and surface planed they were too thick so I set up the band saw for resawing and sliced off a piece about 1/4" thick to bring the thickness down close to 3/4". Then another trip or two through the planer took them down to 3/4".

I decided I wanted to put a racing stripe in this one so I elected to insert a piece of walnut wide enough to provide a 1/4" strip on the edge of the lid and the edge of the humidor box. So I cut the side and front pieces apart for the strip. Had to then clean up the edge and make sure they were perfectly square with a trip through a spiral bit in the router table.

Then, of course I had to do a dry run in the jig to make sure everything lined up before I started squirting glue all over the place...

Ken Kelley

OK, everything looked good so I proceeded to glue it up, clamp it because the jig is actually a panel jig and not meant for pieces this thick, and then weight it down to make sure it stays flat. I used about 60 pounds of bullet casting lead for that little chore....

I have some nice and some rare humidors, but I need to get myself an Alphairon humidor.
I'm right 98% of the time.  Who cares about the other 3%?

Ken Kelley

So that's the progress for today. Tomorrow, I will repeat this process for the pieces I'll use for the front and back. I will also resaw the piece I will use for the top into two equally thick pieces, run them through the surface planer, then book match them and edge glue in a  smaller panel jig while the other pieces dry. I will add to this thread as I get things done..

Maybe it's like becoming one with the cigar. You lose yourself in it, everything fades away, your worries, your problems, your thoughts. They fade into the smoke, and the cigar and you are at peace. ~Raul Julia

That's some serious hardware Ken, a real nice shop to play in. Great choice in woods too. That humidor is going to be a beauty when you're done.
