Those of us FOGs know We have lots of great Geeks who are or have service our nation or perhaps their own nations. While most are quiet about thier contributions we need to recognize and thank those who sacrificed.

So, I am asking, humbly, if you are part of our nations rich military heritage please post on this thread.

I will suggest this: Branch, where you served, what you did

 Thank you.

I served in the Army during the Viet Nam era.  Was stationed in Korea.
Worked in Military Intelligence, mostly with intercepted enemy traffic.

Did 6 years in the Navy, mostly westpac stuff.
Glad for people like Jay who make a career out of it, my military bearings started going out after 6 years.
I am not concerned about what you think as I can tell you don't do it often.

I used to be a people person, but then people ruined that for me.

Retired Army Sergeant First Class here.  23 years active duty, 3.5 years reserve (1982-2008).  I did it backwards, my reserve time came first.  Desert Storm and Iraq vet.  Served in Korea (two tours), Central America, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Germany, Hungary, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Since this being posted near Memorial Day, I'd like to remind everyone that Memorial Day is in remembrance of those Sailors, Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and other service members who gave their lives, the ultimate sacrifice, in defense of freedom.  In September we celebrate Veteran's Day, when we give thanks to all Veterans.

I'm a bit late to this but I echo Les's sentiments.

As for me...I'm retired USAF with over 23 years service time, enlisted and officer side both. Started off as a Psychiatric Clinic Specialist for the first 8 years then spent the rest of the time as a medical administrator. Started that episode as a 2LT Medical Service Corps type and ended up as a Senior Staff Medical Administrator. Stationed in Texas, IL, CO, CA, Germany, Turkey, Philippines, and Japan over the years. During my flying years as a wing-level staff officer, Director of Operations, and interim commander for an air evac squadron I visited about every place in the world a plane can land. Loads of fun and loads of work. Even saw the elephant a couple of times. I'd do it again!

Since did some as a psychiatric clinic specialist, you are able to evaluate yourself?  And how did it turn out Ken?
