"A fine cigar is the essence of life. The tobacco plant comes from the earth, from which we ourselves were created. Like ourselves, each leaf grows and is nurtured individually, acquiring its own characteristics, and is then graded, sorted, and matured according to their special abilities. As tobacco comes to its graduation in the making of cigars, as with the making of adults, some is left on the cutting room table and become ordinary, run-of-the-mill products. Some graduate into leadership and areas of responsibility, but a few achieve greatness, and even a touch of immortality." -Prince Sined Yar Maharg

Tabacalera Caballeros Connecticut Bull 4 Star Rating
By: tuck0411 (Today at 11:35 AM)
Humidor time: 151 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 57
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a mild/medium profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and hints of butter and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors maintaining through the first two thirds with the citrus hint ramping just a bit in the last third and the other flavors maintaining throughout. Pretty tasty, overall, although also pretty typical and average for a conny blend. Strength was about medium. (29/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were uneventful through the 2nd third after which a wrapper split developed in the last third but this didn't impact smokeability to any significant degree and things were otherwise uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained mostly optimal throughout. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. Pretty nice morning smoke, although as noted, it wasn't anything unusual or amazing, flavor-wise. Definitely good enough to smoke again, though. (30/35)

Humidor time: 150 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 68, foot - 67
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and pretty close to my wheelhouse for a medium Habano blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. It was a slow-burning stick for its size, clocking in at nearly two hours from light to nub. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. Nothing unusual or amazing, flavor-wise, just a really good and tasty example of a Dominican habano and I'd easily smoke it again. (32/35)

Nicaraguan puro with superb construction that provides a clean draw and burn line. Notes of coffee and some sweetness. Paired with morning coffee it went well.

Firm core, bit of float, an oily dark brown wrapper, no veins.  PLA old wood (baking at foot); PLT citrus-y mulch; PLD moderate.  A slightly extended toast & light, a moderately tight draw needing some relights, an even burn, & a sweet & mineral earth smoke.  Hardwood, earth & a touch of black pepper in mouth & nose start.  The strength is near full.  In the 1st 1/3 an acidic note comes on that later develops a citric quality like sour grapefruit.  Near the 1/2 a transient candy-ish sweetness is felt in the throat.  After the 1/2 the citric note loses some of its potency & the profile starts to smooth out.  The finish is mellow wood, citrus, earth & a touch of spice.  The body is near full.  Better in the 2nd 1/2.

Thick flathead stick that I had to cut instead of my normal vcut due to cap shape. Broadleaf maduro wrapper gave it a hint of sweetness, but mostly earthy notes. Draw was ok with numerous touch ups needed. Big beefy feel was good in my mouth. Overall a good stick.

Humidor time: 149 days

Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, no sheen to speak of, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a mild/medium profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which a hint of butter came in and stuck around for the duration with the other flavors maintaining throughout. Pretty tasty, overall, but nothing unusual or amazing for a conny blend. Strength was medium at best. (30/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back and is another Macy's Parade balloon-themed stick.  Apparently, the Felix The Cat balloon was a participant in the 1927 parade in NYC and was notable for being released by its handlers after the parade was over due to confusion over how to deflate it. It rose into the air and eventually popped once it gained altitude and the result is... a cigar.  Runaway balloons aside, it was a pretty good cigar and a quite satisfactory morning smoke and I'd definitely smoke it again. Rock solid, very dark wrapper, no veins & plenty of oils.  PLA Coffee & chocolate; PLT slightly wine-y earth; PLD moderate.  A quick toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn, & a flinty earth smoke.  Dark coffee bean, earth, a bit of minerals & a little bit of pepper in mouth & nose start things off.  The coffee picks up unsweetened chocolate early on making a tasty mix.  Late in the 1/3 there is a faint woody sweetness.  Most of the mineral-ness fades in the 2nd 1/3 & the strength & body are near full.  The back end of the smoke is an enjoyable collab of earth, coffee, chocolate wood & just a hint of pepper.  The finish is somewhat potent but still smooth.  Terrific!

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, charred wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors gradually mellowing through the first third and the body receding towards medium/full. This slightly mellower profile then stayed consistent through the remainder. Pretty tasty, overall, although it missed my wheelhouse by just a bit. Strength was about medium. (30/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving no cone behind. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. Pretty nice smoke, if not exactly in my wheelhouse, flavor-wise, but definitely good enough to smoke again. (31/35)

Solid body, fairly oily dark brown wrapper, one micro vein.  PLA toasted graham & barn; PLT graham=y wheat; PLD moderately easy.  An easy toast, light & draw, an even burn, & a wood smoke.  Opening notes are charred wood, mineral-ly earth & some black & white pepper in mouth & nose.  The charcoal mostly fades in the 1/3 making the wood a bit sweeter.  Flavor strength is medium.  The pepper backs down some in the 2nd 1/3.  The mineral-edged earth & the wood are the dominant notes in the back end.  The finish is woody & earthy.  The body is medium.  Not bad but I was hoping for more.

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the sharp wood note faded a bit with the citrus hint ramping to a full, predominant note and stayed there through the remainder with the wood and spice maintaining throughout. Very tasty, overall, and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Smoke output was improving by this point and reached fully optimal shortly into the 2nd third. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal from the 2nd third on. It was a slow-burning smoke, clocking in at well past 2 hours from light to nub. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back and is advertised as having aged for 7 years before PCC got their hands on them. Apparently a stick that Chico Rivas made and then forgot about or something. A fine smoke, in any case, with both flavors and construction checking all the right boxes and I'd definitely smoke it again. Side note - the band is a PCC creation and is intended to be a tribute to the Mighty Mouse balloon that had a run-in with a street-sign during the very windy 1956 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.  Apparently, this event was deemed worthy of having a cigar memorial...
