This was done as a blind review so there were no pre-concieved notions about what anyone was smoking. The cigar provided for this round is the Foundation Cigar Co. El Gueguense The Wise Man Robusto Maduro.
The Wise Man Maduro is an extension on the El Güegüense line that adds a whole new layer of complexity via the simple change of wrapping it in a San Andres wrapper. This dark and oily wrapper creates a bolder, fuller bodied cigar that shows off all the greatness of the original in a brand new way.

This cigar was enjoyed with Lagunitas Hoppy Water
Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible
The wrapper is on the dry side, and is very smooth, without any prominent veining. The cap is well applied, and stayed intact after using a straight cut. The cigar is hard to the touch, and seems well filled. The aroma off the foot is light, with just a hint of sweet tobacco.
Lighting and Burn: 10 Points of 15 Possible
The burn was a little wonky for the first third, and part of the wrapper came off during the beginning, then evened out for the rest of the smoke. The ash held in 1/2" chunks, but was still pretty solid. Ash color was white, with some light black striping. The burn was slow and required no re-lights. The smoke volume was on the light side.
Construction: 24 Points of 30 Possible
The draw was pretty tight, I had to work at getting the cigar to smoke. It was a bit more work than I would have liked. The wrapper came apart during the first third, but performed well after that mishap. The cap stayed intact for the duration of the smoke.
Flavor and Aroma: 38 Points of 45 Possible
The flavor profile was pretty straight forward for the entirety of the smoke. It was pretty smooth tobacco, and a natural sweetness underlying, with a touch of spice. It was not complex, and there were no changes in the profile at all for me. I did get a little tingle on the tongue in the last third. I did enjoy the retrohale, it was very smooth.
Summary
I was a bit disappointed with this cigar. The tight draw did not allow me to really enjoy this cigar. It was just good enough that I would be willing to try another one...whatever this is! I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this GC, and would like to thank Stephen for inviting me to try and guess this one...but I think ya got me this year brother!
