Class 34 Fugazi - Compare to Macanudo Robusto 4 Star Rating
By: tuck0411 (Today at 03:17 PM)
Humidor time: 141 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - A few minor veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a mild/medium profile with a slightly spicy retro and notes of light wood and spice. The spice in the nose faded quickly with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was decently flavorful but nothing unusual or amazing for this kind of conny blend and ultimately just kind of average. Strength was medium at best. (27/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came in a brand sampler from Cigar Page while back. First stick I've had from the brand, which appears to be an exclusive for CP as I haven't seen them anywhere else. It's been quite awhile since I've had a Macanudo blend of any sort but I'm guessing this one was intended to mimic their "Cafe" blend and what I remember of that blend was that it was somewhat milder with less body than this one. The Cafe blend has a filler mix of Dominican and Mexican leaves and this one is all Nicaraguan, so I wouldn't really expect them to taste very similar. This was a decent smoke, in any event, although as mentioned, nothing that blew my socks off.  Good enough to smoke again, though. (29/35)

Semi firm, oily, medium dark brown wrapper, a couple micro veins.  PLA fresh hay & grass; PLT more hay & grass; PLD mod.  A pretty easy toast & light, a mod draw, an even burn, & a hay & leaf smoke.  Starts with some wood, hay, a touch of earth & a spot of black pepper in the mouth; little in the retro.  The wood takes on an bit of iodine note in the 1st 1/3 which fades in the 2nd when a cream-like sweetness edges in.  By the 1/2 a little coffee bean joins.  In the last 1/3 the wood gets charry for a while before sweetening again in the finale.  The strength & body are medium.  Some ups & some downs.

Good construction and clean draw. Aromatic and copious smoke. Good burn quality. Notes of leather and oak initially that added earth andpeat. Excellent 50 minutes of smoking.

Humidor time: 140 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 56
Appearance and construction: Comes in a tube with a few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a slightly spicy retro, a note of rich wood, and a hint of spice. The spice in the nose faded quickly and then a hint of citrus showed up shortly into the first third and stuck around for the duration with the other flavors maintaining throughout. Quite tasty, overall, and quite rich in flavor and mouth-feel for a conny blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. A very nice morning smoke and one of  more fuller-bodied conny blends I've had in awhile. Loads of flavor in this one along with excellent construction and it's a winner in my book.  Too bad they're so expensive... $89 for a pack of five at Small Batch! (32/35)

Humidor time: 148 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 59
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave this long, skinny lancero a punch and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, dark wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was a very rich and flavorful smoke with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (33/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This was another single I picked up from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. It was released in honor of PCC's Discord community, which apparently is growing and thriving, although I don't know for sure as I don't participate. At any rate, this was a fine smoke and one I'd like to try in other vitolas if they were available.  It's a Nicaraguan puro and not an unusual blend from AJ, but definitely a tasty one. (33/35)

Semi soft, gently BPd, maduro dark wrapper, no veins & lots of oils.  PLA molasses-y earth; PLT sweet earth & light molasses; PLD moderate.  A normal toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn needing no work, & a pleasing mineral smoke.  Mild earth, rich leather & very little spice to start off.  Flavor strength is medium plus.  Coffee bean & black coffee come on early.  A pleasant mineral note tinges the retro.  Wheat & faint traces of baker's chocolate join in the 2nd 1/3.  The finale is a mellow mix & the finish starts earth & leather & slides down to the other notes.  The body is upper medium.   A great long smoke & a perfect performer.

Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (9/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, coffee, spice, and just a bare hint of chocolate. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This was yet another regional cigar club stick I got from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. And another banger of a smoke with both flavor and construction checking all the right boxes. Who makes it is undisclosed as is the blend, but if I had to guess it's probably a Nicaraguan stick containing tobacco from that country. It tasted like a habano wrapper on top of a mix of Nicaraguan and Dominican leaf underneath.  A good blend and a good smoke. (33/35)

Class 34 Fugazi - Compare to Cuban Montecristo No. 2 4.5 Star Rating
By: druid (04/30/2024 11:07 AM)
Semi soft core, medium brown oily wrapper, no veins.  PLA wheat & baking; PLT earth; PLD mod.  An easy toast & light, a mod easy draw, an even burn, & light cedar & hay smoke.  Starters are wood, hay & a hint of herbal spice.  The strength is mild.  The 1/3 brings coffee & cream, very light, & tings of nuttiness.  The nuts get stronger in the 2nd 1/3 & a floral perfume, again very light, appears.  Past the 1/2 mild earth tones come.  The final 1/3 is smooth & light,  The cedar, hay, nuts, earth, coffee & cream are as light as air & the finish is almost creamy sweet.  The body is mild.  I hate the term but "Cubanesque." If you want the Cuban experience for under $5, this is it.

Humidimeter reading: Head - 61, foot - 55
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single clip with the guillotine and PLD was open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, charred wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third and the body receding towards medium/full. Very tasty, overall, with plenty of spice and rich Nicaraguan goodness to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. As with the previous conny and habano versions of this brand, no clue is provided as to who makes these apart from it being a "famous factory in Esteli, Nicaragua".  It kind of sounds like these were originally made for a name-brand and these were over-runs or somesuch.  Great smokes, in any case, and I will likely be grabbing more of them next time PCC has a sale. (32/35)
