Privada Cigar Club Raspberry Beret by El Titan De Bronze 4.5 Star Rating
By: tuck0411 (06/18/2024 05:49 PM)
Humidor time: 120 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 52
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a faint whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and hints of floral and, yep, raspberries. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the floral and raspberry hints mostly faded away. Very tasty, overall, but on the milder end of what I normally get from a Nicaraguan habano blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving no cone behind. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the 2nd third and things were otherwise uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. Not quite as tightly packed as sticks I've had in the past from El Titan, which was a nice surprise, and it smoked great. I was also surprised to actually pick up the raspberry hint (or maybe it was just the power of suggestion) as it's not a flavor I normally get from any stick. Very tasty smoke, in any event, and I'd easily smoke it again. (32/35)

Semi-firm, near black , pig-tailed wrapper, one micro vein & deep-set oils.  PLA sweet vegetal; PLT faint vegetal; PLD easy.  An easy toast, light & draw, an even burn, & a dry earth smoke.  Lead-offs are vegetal-tinged earth & a slightly mineral spice in mouth & nose.  Strength is upper medium.  The 1/3 brings some mildly tart grass-hay notes & maybe a touch of walnut,  A bitter chocolate & coffee mix shows up in the 2nd 1/3.  By the 1/2 the strength & body are full but the flavors actually mellow a bit in the last 1/3, allowing a faintly sweet note to the finish.  An enjoyable but potent cigar.

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, spice, and hints of coffee and butter. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and not far from my wheelhouse for this type of rich Nicaraguan habano blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn proceeded uneventfully through the 2nd third, then got a bit wavy and almost lopsided in the last third before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained mostly optimal throughout apart from dropping a bit after the first ashing before recovering. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came in a brand sampler from Cigar Page awhile back. Another fine smoke from Mr. Pages with great flavor and completely adequate construction. Will definitely be smoking more of these. (32/35)

A firm, sharply pointed stick, brown & tan barber pole wrapper, no veins & good oils.  PLA sweet  hay & wood; PLT sweet earth & hay; PLD moderate.  A normal toast & light, a moderate draw, a very even burn, & a sweet wood smoke.  First flavors are earth & wood, sweet to the point of candy-ish-ness & very little spice in mouth & nose.  Strength is medium.  The sweetness eases to a very palatable mix in the 1/3.  Joiners to the wood & earth in the 2nd 1/3 of the cigar are nuts, grasses &, after the 1/2, a maple syrup note.  Mellow sweet flavors make for a wonderful profile & finish.  The body is medium.  An excellent cigar!

Humidor time: 118 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 58, foot - 56
Appearance and construction: A few minor veins, a light sheen, a 1" wrapper split at the foot, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and a zingy hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of blend. Strength was medium at best. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and a wavy burn to start thanks to the aforementioned wrapper split at the foot. The burn gradually evened out through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving no cone behind. The burn continued to even out through the 2nd third and things were then uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back and rumor has it these are made by the IGM factory in Costa Rica. According to the notes that came with it, this was a 4 year-aged stick that had originally been commissioned by a Spanish cigar brand that ended up not taking these due to the stick's appearance not meeting their standards.  The notes also heavily hint that this stick has forbidden leaf in it from that island 90 miles from Miami.  Could be, dunno for sure, but it was a tasty smoke any way you slice it and I'd definitely smoke it again.  (32/35)

Pretty firm core, oily, medium brown wrapper, one small vein.  PLA grass/hay (baking at foot); PLT earth & hay; PLD moderately easy.  An easy toast, light & draw, an even burn, & a light wood smoke.  Openers are sweet wood, including cedar, a faint citrus & grass note, & only a touch of spice.  The strength is medium plus.  The flavor strength drops in the 1st 1/3 & the citrus picks up a floral edge.  The citrus edges out the floral tone in the 2nd 1/3.  The back 1/2 is pretty much the same.  The spice is gone & what remains are the flavors reminiscent of a Cuban.  The finish is smooth & the body medium.  Well done.

Semi-firm, a soft BP, a dark brown wrapper, no veins & lots of oils.  PLA a bit of molasses & sweet earth; PLT moist earth; PLD moderately easy.  An easy toast, light & draw, a sharp even burn, & a rich earth smoke.  Rich tobacco, nice earth & a mod dose of black pepper in mouth & retro lead off.  Strength is medium plus.  1st 1/3 adds some wood & coffee bean.  Strength increases to upper medium.  The coffee strengthens in the 2nd 1/3 & a bit of unsweetened chocolate insinuates on the finish.  The finale is coffee, earth & wood with little spice.  The finish runs coffee to faint chocolate.  Body is medium plus.  Flawless & tasty, as usual.

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of woody tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, black coffee, leather, spice, and a hint of chocolate. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite pleasant and flavorful if nothing really unusual for a maduro blend. Strength was about medium. (30/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn was slightly wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling a 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued wavily, then got lopsided shortly into the 2nd third and a touch-up was needed. And then another one later in the 2nd third. Things then continued uneventfully through the remainder and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (16/20)

Overall impression: This one came in a brand sampler from Cigar Page awhile back. A pretty good maduro blend but nothing really amazing, just a good solid smoke apart from the misbehaving burn line in the middle third. Definitely good enough to smoke again. (29/35)

Fairly firm, oily, medium brown wrapper, no veins.  PLA fermenting hay; PLT hay & barn wood; PLD easy.  A normal toast & light, an easy draw, an even burn, & an aged wood smoke.  Aged wood, old leather, a bit of earth & a fair dose of black pepper in mouth & retro start off.  The flavor strength is medium.  This is a woody cigar & the earth & leather fall behind in the 1st 1/3.  The pepper eases a bit in the mouth.  The profile sweetens briefly in the 2nd 1/3 but by the 1/2 the wood is back in charge, a bit charcoal-ly at times.  There is a tang that might be attributed to citrus.  The body is medium.  Less than was expected for the price.
