Humidor time: 105 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 64, foot - 63
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very rich and flavorful and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of rich Nicaraguan habano blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: Got a 10-pack of these from Cigar Page awhile back and this was the fourth vitola I've had from this blend. A very similar smoke, flavor-wise, to the previous smokes, and very nice construction as well. Definitely one of my favorite RP blends and one I plan to smoke many more of. (32/35)

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, a pig-tail cap, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a slightly spicy retro and notes of rich wood, coffee, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (30/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. The burn continued a bit wavily but self-correcting through the last two thirds and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained mostly optimal throughout. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. Pretty nice smoke with both flavors and construction getting the job done and I'd definitely smoke it again. (30/35)

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, a pig-tail cap, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, dark wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very rich and flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn was slightly wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued wavily but self-correcting through the last two thirds and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (17/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. Pretty tasty, full-bodied smoke with decent, although not perfect, construction, and I'd definitely smoke it again. (30/35)

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, coffee, spice, and just a bare hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very rich and flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume slightly below optimal, and an even burn to start. I quickly gave it a 2nd shallow V-cut on top of the initial cut but this had no immediate effect on smoke output. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving no cone behind. The burn continued wavily but self-correcting through the last two thirds and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output finally reached optimal at the end of the 2nd third and stayed there through the remainder. (15/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. A very tasty smoke but it was a bit tightly packed resulting in reduced draw and smoke output most of the way through. Definitely good enough to smoke again, though. (29/35)

Humidimeter reading: Head - 64, foot - 64
Appearance and construction: A few veins, an oily sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, dark wood, leather, spice, and sour citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third and then ramping quite a bit in the last third with the sour citrus note becoming particularly strong. This was very rich and flavorful if not exactly right in my wheelhouse due to the strong note of sour citrus that got quite overwhelming in the last third. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (24/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume below optimal, and a wavy burn to start. I quickly gave it a 2nd shallow V-cut on top of the initial cut but this had no immediate effect on smoke output. The burn continue wavily into the first third, then got lopsided and a touch-up was needed prior to the first ashing at 1 1/4" which would have left a cone if not for the finger of ash sticking up on one side. More lopsidedness in the 2nd third and another touch-up and then again in the last third before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output reached optimal part way through the 2nd third and mostly stayed there through the remainder although it didn't really want to stay lit for very long and needed frequent puffing to keep it going. (7/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. A mostly enjoyable smoke, flavor-wise, at least through the first half or so before the sour citrus started ramping and becoming predominant in the last third. Construction-wise, the wrapper on this just didn't want to burn very evenly resulting in a heightened struggle factor what with all the needed maintenance along the way. Coming from Honduras, I'm assuming this stick had a lot of corojo in it what with the very strong citrus flavor, which is what I'm used to getting from a corojo blend. A bit too much of it present here, though. (21/35)

Number 2 Cigar Aficionado pick of 2018 and I think it deserves the honor. Box press and right away chocolate and baking cocoa notes. Definately woody notes of oak and cedar and the MSA wrapper adds spice. Pushes the upper limits of medium flavor profile. Construction was perfect with no touch ups needed and smooth draw. Awesome smoking experience.

2025 Release:

There has been so much hype around this cigar, I had totally dismissed it. My local B&M got them in last week, so I decided to try one. I ended up smoking one three days in a row, and ordering a box.

The tobacco is super unique, and i haven't been as blown away by the complexity since I first tried the Byron XXI.

The cigar is spicy, but not peppery, sweet dark chocolate, raisin, espresso, earth, black cherry, develops and develops like a fine glass of Amarone. Burn them to the nub.
