If you give a kit for auction, win an auction, or donate at least $20 you will be awarded the badge. A special thanks goes out to Emerson (McBryde) for stepping up to run the drive again this year. ![]() |

Love the vitola as the box press made it feel better in my mouth for a larger ring guage. First light produced volumes of creamy smoke. Spice forward on pallet. Retro pushed my tolerance. Full flavor profile with rich espresso and black pepper. Construction was flawless with only needing one minor burnline correction. Had after a light lunch and paired with coffee. Burn time right at 90 minutes. Excellent cigar.

Humidor time: 117 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 71, foot - 61 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (7/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was fairly tasty but missed my wheelhouse by a bit. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (30/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued a bit wavily into the 2nd third, then got lopsided and a touch-up was needed followed by another touch-up at the end of the 2nd third and then another in the last third before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained mostly optimal throughout. (14/20) Overall impression: This one came in a 20-pack from Cigar Page awhile back when they were having a sale on Oliva 2nds. It didn't really match up, flavor-wise, to the banded Cain F box-pressed toro I reviewed a few days ago with this one being a bit more full-bodied than that one and the flavors not matching up very closely. Could be the difference in vitola or perhaps the blend was not quite the same, hard to say. I'd already smoked a couple of these before smoking this one and it didn't really match my memory of those, either. It's a 2nd, though, so who knows what you're really getting. I have 17 more of these so will update this review should those perform any better than this one did. (27/35) Burn time: 1:28 Rating: 78

Humidor time: 128 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 66, foot - 59 Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut which caused a wrapper split at the head but I was able to keep it in check. PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and hints of coffee and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful although missed my wheelhouse by just a bit. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (30/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued mostly evenly into the 2nd third but it started tunneling at the end of the third and got a touch-up. The burn then continued wavily but mostly self-correcting through the remainder and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout except when it was tunneling. (18/20) Overall impression: Last stick from my Cigar Page singles haul from awhile back. Similar smoke to the previous Cains from this batch with nice habano flavors but somewhat imperfect construction. Good enough to smoke again, although I doubt if I'll actually buy anymore. Humidor time: 127 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 65, foot - 51 Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, no sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a slightly spicy retro and notes of black pepper, charred wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded quickly with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very rich and flavorful and not far from my wheelhouse for this type of rich Nicaraguan maduro blend. Strength was about medium. (31/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn got wavy, then lopsided in the first third and a touch-up was needed. Smoke volume also dropped about the time the waviness started. The ash fell at 1 1/2" leaving no cone behind. Smoke volume improved to optimal after the ashing. The burn continued wavily into the 2nd third, then got lopsided again and another touch-up was needed. And then another in the last third before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output were intermittently optimal or below optimal throughout the smoke as the burn line wandered. (12/20) Overall impression: This one came as a single from Cigar Page awhile back when they were having a sale. Another tasty Cain that suffered from construction issues, unfortunately. Oliva seems to have lost their touch at making well-constructed and well-performing sticks, at least based on these last two Cains I've smoked. One more to go and we'll see how that one does... Humidor time: 126 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 66, foot - 67 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it two clips with the guillotine and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very rich and flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately tight draw, thin smoke volume, and an even burn to start. I quickly gave it a third clip off the head but this improved smoke output only slightly. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/2" leaving a cone. Smoke output was improving by this point and reached optimal shortly into the 2nd third. Things were then uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal from the 2nd third on. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came as a single from Cigar Page awhile back when they were having s sale. This was the 6th vitola I've had from this blend and my reviews of the others show a very similar experience, flavor-wise, to this one. It's a very rich and tasty maduro blend with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and one I'll definitely be smoking more of. (32/35) Burn time: 1:57 Rating: 91

(32/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/2" leaving a small cone. The burn continued wavily into the 2nd third, then got lopsided and a touch-up was needed. More lopsidedness in the last third and another touch-up before reaching the nub. Smoke output finally reached fully optimal in the last third. (14/20) Overall impression: This one came as a single from Cigar Page awhile back when they were having a sale. This was the 3rd vitola I've had from this blend but the last one was over five years ago and my palate has changed in the meantime so my reviews of those first two sticks don't much resemble what I got from this one. This one was a very tasty smoke but unfortunately suffered from construction issues that bring the score down a bit. I'd smoke it again, though, just for the rich habano flavors. Humidor time: 123 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 61 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, a 1/2" shaggy foot, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich wood, coffee, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the citrus hint faded to almost nothing. I didn't notice any great change when the burn transitioned past the shaggy foot and into the wrapper but this may have been the point where the citrus hint started to fade. The profile otherwise stayed consistent through the remainder. Very tasty, overall, and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of rich Nicaraguan habano blend. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn got wavy, then lopsided through the first third and a touch-up was needed prior to the first ashing at 1 1/2" which left a small cone. The burn continued wavily into the 2nd third and got lopsided again with another touch-up applied. Things continued similarly into the lst third with more waviness but it managed to self-correct itself before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (14/20) Overall impression: I thought I had already smoked/reviewed all of the RP shaggy toros that came in a sampler from Cigar Page awhile back but then found this one still lurking about. A similar smoke, flavor-wise, to the previous vitolas I've had from this blend, but this one unfortunately suffered from construction issues and require a fair amount of maintenance along the way. A very tasty smoke, nonetheless, and I'd definitely smoke it again. (29/35) Burn time: 1:25 Rating: 83

Good looking cigar, graphics on the band are interesting. Took a punch well and off we go. The sweetened cap came on sort of strong in the beginning but backed off to a ok level after a short time. Initially this smoke reminds me of the Java but I am getting some pipe like aromatics that make it different. Burn was good and flavors were ok, if you like infused cigars then this is a good one, just wasn't really in my wheelhouse.

Draw and smoke output returned to optimal in the 2nd third and remained there through the remainder and down to the nub. (15/20) Overall impression: This one came as a single from Cigar Page awhile back when they were having a sale.
