By: tuck0411 (01/15/2025 04:43 PM)
Humidor time: 120 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 64, foot - 61 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with plenty of spice and citrus in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn was slightly wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued wavily but self-correcting through the remainder with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (18/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. A very tasty habano/corojo blend with pretty good construction and I'd definitely smoke it again. (31/35) Burn time: 1:21 Rating: 89

Humidor time: 119 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 60 Appearance and construction: A few minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (9/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, leather, and spice, along with a hint of something like bread. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very rich and flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (33/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving no cone behind. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the 2nd third and things were otherwise uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. A very tasty smoke and pretty well constructed as well. It had a very similar flavor profile to the Stolen Throne stick I reviewed yesterday right down to the bready hint. Pure coincidence, I'm sure, but interesting as I don't get that sort of flavor very often. Great smoke, in any case, and I'd definitely smoke it again. (33/35) Burn time: 1:07 Rating: 94

Humidor time: 118 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 64 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, a short Pig-tail cap, a closed foot, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, leather, spice, and a hint of something like bread. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of rich, Nicaraguan maduro blend. Strength was about medium. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. A very rich and tasty smoke it was with excellent construction and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35) Burn time: 1:10 Rating: 92

Don Pepin Garcia (My Father Cigars) My Father Cedros Deluxe Eminentes
By: ntanner (01/12/2025 07:14 PM)
Been hanging on to this one for awhile now and after removing the cedar sleeve it looks like it will be worth the wait. Nice sheen and a toothy feel to the wrapper. Good looking cigar, solid cannon, cap cuts good and draw seems slightly firm. It opens with the spiciness I have come to expect from a Don Pepin cigars along with a roasted malt and a wood hint with a sweet finish and a touch of cream. The second third opens with some leather joining the mix and a uptic of spice in the retro. Good balance, smoke production is decent and burn is almost razor straight producing a light gray ash that held past 2 inches easily and is very solid. The last third is a continuation of the second third but there's a salty hint to the finish. Good smoke overall, slow burn, almost an hour and forty five minutes to smoke. Rather unfortunate that I don't have anymore.
Privada Cigar Club Farm Rolled Tampeno San Andres Robusto
By: tuck0411 (01/12/2025 05:00 PM)
Humidor time: 117 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 60 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, a closed foot, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: Got nothing from PLA. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, leather, dark wood, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (30/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling on my shirt past 1" leaving no cone behind. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining mostly optimal throughout. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. Very similar smoke to the Tampeno Corona Extra I had the other day and I'm assuming it's the same blend. Nice flavors, good construction, and definitely worth smoking again. (30/35) Burn time: 1:00 Rating: 87
Latitude Zero (Core Line) Toro Gordo
By: ElCid1986 (01/12/2025 03:15 PM)
When I was done smoking this I actually said "WoW". I have had the Latitiude Zero Signature line and they are solid, but this was a fantastic cigar. Full bodied with wood, caramel and spice. Not one touch up was needed and draw was perfect. I have had these in my humidor for over 6 months and luckily have another 9. Great cigar.

By: tuck0411 (01/11/2025 05:29 PM)
Humidor time: 116 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 71, foot - 61 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of sweetened tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and a hint of sweetness as if the cap had been treated. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the sweet hint faded with the other flavors staying consistent through the remainder. Quite tasty, overall, with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (31/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining mostly optimal throughout. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC awhile back. First smoke I've had from this brand, which I'd not heard of before but it appears to be a small factory in Esteli that grows their own tobacco and has been in operation about five years or so. Pretty nice smoke, in any case, and I'd easily smoke this one again. (31/35) Burn time: 1:57 Rating: 89
Black Label Trading Company Bishops Blend Novemdiales LE Robusto
By: ElCid1986 (01/11/2025 02:39 PM)
LE purchased from OGT cigars. I love Broadleaf and got plenty of it with this stick. I braved the cold temps outside for this very nice looking cigar. PA broadleaf wrapper and PA and Connecticut broadleaf fillers gave this a full bodied flavor. Great construction with nice draw and smoke output. Worth the trip outside.
Privada Cigar Club Farm Rolled Tampeno San Andres Corona Extra
By: tuck0411 (01/10/2025 01:46 PM)
Humidor time: 115 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 52 Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, a mottled wrapper, a closed foot, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a faint whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a slightly spicy retro and notes of black coffee, black pepper, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded quickly with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (30/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. Tampeno is a small company/factory in Florida and is known for wrapping their production sticks in newspaper. This one didn't come that way but it was a fine smoke with both flavors and construction getting the job done in fine style and I'd definitely smoke it again. (31/35) Burn time: 1:05 Rating: 89 |
