Humidor time: 116 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 65, foot - 64 Appearance and construction: A few veins, an oily sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich wood, coffee, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with plenty of spice and that citrus hint to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (33/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. No idea what this one is with a band on but it's another fine blend from Chico Rivas, a blender whose creations I've enjoyed before. Great flavors, excellent construction, and nothing here to dislike at all. (33/35) Burn time: 1:46 Rating: 94

Humidor time: 114 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 60 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut, which caused a wrapper split at the head but I was able to keep it in check for the moment. PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, coffee, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite tasty with plenty of spice and that citrus hint to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (30/35) Pic was taken after the first ashing... ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn quickly got wavy, then lopsided through the first third and a touch-up was needed prior to the first ashing at 1 1/2" which left a cone. Smoke output reached optimal shortly after the ashing. The burn continued wavily through the 2nd third with the aforementioned wrapper split in the last third gradually getting worse but I managed to keep the stick burning adequately down to the nub without things disintegrating. Draw and smoke output remained optimal from the 2nd third on. (13/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections in the Halloween-themed box from last October. Not the most impressive smoke with the flavors being pretty nice but construction was definitely somewhat lacking what with the very wavy burn and split wrapper issues. Good enough to smoke again, though, and hopefully another sample would perform better. (27/35) Burn time: 1:08 Rating: 78

Humidor time: 114 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 68, foot - 55 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, coffee, citrus, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with plenty of spice and citrus in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume and an even burn to start. The burn quickly got wavy, then lopsided through the first third and a touch-up was applied shortly before the first ashing at 2" which left no cone behind. The burn continued wavily and got lopsided again later in the 2nd third and another touch-up was needed. And then another in the last third before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output were intermittently adequate alternating with the stick trying to go out and frequent puffing was required to keep it going throughout the smoke. (5/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack. Kind of a sad experience all the way through except for the flavors which were very tasty and enjoyable. No idea what this one is with a band on but I'd smoke it again just to see if a 2nd sample might perform better. So, flavors - big thumbs up, construction - big thumbs down. Humidor time: 118 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 64, foot - 62 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it two clips with the guillotine and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, charred wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third with the body receding towards medium/full where it stayed through the remainder. No other transitions or changes to note but this was quite flavorful with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (30/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn got wavy through the first third and was more or less lopsided when I knocked the ash off at 1 1/2" on the low side of the burn line which left a cone. The burn showed little sign of self-correcting going into the 2nd third so a touch-up was applied. In spite of the touch-up the burn got lopsided again at the end of the 2nd third and a 2nd touch-up was needed. Things then continued wavily down to the nub. Draw and smoke output were intermittently adequate alternating with the stick trying to go out all the way through and frequent puffing was needed to keep it going. (5/20) Overall impression: This one came in an RP salamon sampler awhile back and this was the 2nd vitola I've had from this blend, the Gran Perfecto being the first. My review of that one shows a similar experience with the flavors although I liked it quite a bit more than this one as it burned a lot better. This one was a pretty sad experience in that regard but I have a few more and will update this review should they perform any better. (23/35) Burn time: 1:24 Rating: 66

Humidor time: 116 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 53 Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single clip with the guillotine and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a faint whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing slightly through the first third but otherwise staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of rich Nicaraguan habano blend. Strength was about medium. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came in an RP salamon sampler from Cigar Page awhile back and this was the sixth vitola I've had from this blend. My reviews of the others show a very similar experience with the flavors and it's one of my favorite blends from Mr. Pages what with all the rich Nicaraguan goodness coming from these sticks. (31/35) Band removed and repositioned for the pic... ![]() Smoking characteristics: My early-onset kicked in with this one... The light produced a moderately tight draw, thin smoke volume, and an even burn to start. I quickly gave it a 2nd clip off the *foot* and this helped to bring smoke output to optimal shortly into the first third. After making this cut, I realized what I'd done - I'd lit the head instead of the foot. Oh well, nothing for it at this point but to keep puffing... The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful through the remainder and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal from the first third on. All's well that ends well... (20/20) Overall impression: This one came in an RP salamon sampler from Cigar Page awhile back and this was the 8th vitola I've had from this blend with my reviews of the others showing a similar experience with the flavors. Operator error aside, this was a fine smoke with both flavors and construction getting the job done very satisfyingly. And I guess we can consider this smoke in hindsight to be a successful science experiment - salamons smoke just as well in reverse as they do the normal way... Yeah, we'll go with that.
