Thanks to Otis for this one! I thought overall this was a good medium to med/full smoke. I love the look of a marbled wrapper and the added visual of the “wick” off the cap was cool. The flavor... Read More

I had never had a cigar by this manufacturer and was interested to try this out. I wanted to like this stick, gave it a chance, but the flavors and lack of complexity just didn't do it for me. T... Read More

By: tuck0411 (11/02/2024 03:47 PM)
Humidor time: 137 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 68, foot - 60 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, and spice, with just a bare hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. It was a fast-burning stick for its size, clocking in at well under an hour from light to nub. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. It's made by an apparently small factory in Esteli that I'd not heard of before but one that obviously knows what they're doing as this one had loads of rich, spicy flavor and was well-constructed. Only shortcoming to note is that it was over too quickly. Would love to smoke this in a bigger vitola... (32/35) Burn time: 0:45 Rating: 92

Humidor time: 136 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 67 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, citrus, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first half or so after which the body ramped a bit towards medium/full but otherwise stayed consistent through the remainder. Very tasty, overall, and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of blend. Strength was about medium. (33/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving a small cone. The stick tunneled a bit in the 2nd third and then went out. After the re-light, things were uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout apart from when it was tunneling/going out. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. A very tasty smoke indeed and pretty nice construction, too, the brief bit of tunneling and then going out aside. Definitely one I'd smoke again. (32/35) Burn time: 1:35 Rating: 92

Humidor time: 135 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 71 Appearance and construction: A few veins, an uneven wrapper sheen - oily in some places and dry in others, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the coffee note ramped with the body increasing towards medium/full where it stayed through the remainder. Very tasty, overall, and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of rich habano blend. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn was slightly wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Smoke output was starting to improve by this point and reached optimal part way through the 2nd third. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal from the 2nd third on. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. A very fine and tasty smoke it was with both flavors and construction getting the job done quite nicely and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35) Burn time: 1:43 Rating: 91

Humidor time: 134 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 65, foot - 62 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. Very tasty, overall, and there was more going on here than my palate could pick out as it wasn't quite a typical "wood/coffee/spice" combo but those were the closest flavors I could come up with while trying to characterize this. Strength was about medium. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. This was the 2nd vitola I've had from this blend, the robusto being the first way back almost five years ago and it seems like my palate has changed as my review of that one says I didn't like the flavor profile at all and gave it a 10/25 for flavor. Hmm, well, either the blend has changed, which I doubt as my description of it back then in terms of notes matches what I got today pretty closely. I just liked it a lot more today, so there you go - things change, including one's palate... At any rate, this was a great smoke and I hope to be smoking more of these if I can find them on sale somewhere... (32/35) Burn time: 1:40 Rating: 92

Humidor time: 133 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 68, foot - 67 Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the citrus note faded to a mere hint through the remainder with the other flavors maintaining throughout. Very tasty, overall, and not far from my wheelhouse for this type of rich habano blend. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued a bit wavily but self-correcting through the remainder with draw and smoke output remaining mostly optimal throughout. (19/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. A very nice morning smoke with both flavors and construction getting the job done and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35) Burn time: 1:14 Rating: 91

Humidor time: 132 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 67 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spo;ts... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful for a conny blend with plenty of spice and that citrus hint to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. It was a slow-burning stick for its size, clocking in past an hour and a half from light to nub. (20/20) Overall impression: This was the last vitola from this blend sampler that arrived from Cigar Page awhile back. Maybe the best of the bunch with both flavors and construction treating me very well and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35) Burn time: 1:34 Rating: 92

Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a mild/medium profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and a hint of butter. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with plenty of spice and that buttery hint to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium at best. (30/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20) Overall impression: This one came in a blend sampler from Cigar Page awhile back. This was the third vitola I've had from this blend, the perfecto and the lonsdale being the first two. This was a very similar smoke to those, both with flavors and construction. Just a really nice morning smoke with typical conny flavors and excellent construction and one I'd easily smoke again. Humidor time: 132 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 66 Appearance and construction: A few veins, no sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (7/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a mild profile with a slightly spicy retro and a note of light wood. After I started getting more smoke in the 2nd third the body gradually increased to mild/medium and more spice came in, both in the nose and on the palate. Pretty tasty, overall, at least from the 2nd third on as there wasn't much going on in the first third. Strength was about medium. (26/35) Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately tight draw, thin smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Draw and smoke output had gradually been improving by the end of the first third and both reached optimal about half way through the 2nd third. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal from the 2nd third on. (12/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. The stick was a bit tightly packed to allow full enjoyment in the first half of the smoke but was much better in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, the first half's lack of performance brings the score down quite a bit. I'd smoke it again if only to see if a 2nd sample might perform better. (24/35) Burn time: 1:14 Rating: 69 |
