Humidor time: 331 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 61
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich, tangy wood and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing through the first third and the body receding towards mild/medium. This mellower profile then stayed consistent through the remainder. Pretty tasty, overall, but it missed my wheelhouse by a bit, especially after the first third. Strength was about medium. (29/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn got wavy and almost lopsided going into the last third but managed to self-correct before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (18/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. Pretty nice morning smoke with pleasant flavors and pretty good construction. I'd smoke it again although I probably wouldn't buy more of these. (29/35)

Mexican Puro and very nice looking in my hand. Upside down label was odd. Seamless Habano wrapper and tobacco and barn pre light aroma. Combustion and some nice even pepper upfront, but definately approachable. Deep coffee notes with a woody taste. Construction was spot on and only needing one correction and one relight as I neglected it for a few minutes. Some minor transitions with a dark berry note appearing along with the coffee and spice. A very good blend and I am glad I got a 10 pack.

Humidor time: 335 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 67, foot - 57
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich wood, spic, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. Very tasty, overall, and pretty close to my wheelhouse for this type of rich habano/criollo blend. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (33/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued a bit wavily through the 2nd third, then got lopsided going into the last third and a touch-up was needed. A wrapper split had developed at the head at some point and this resulted in the wrapper coming off before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained mostly optimal throughout. (17/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. This was a very nice smoke, at least flavor-wise, but the mentioned construction issues loses it a few points. I'd definitely smoke it again, though, as it's a great blend with loads of flavor. (31/35)

Humidor time: 334 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 61, foot - 55
Appearance and construction: A few veins, an oily sheen, a closed foot, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a faint whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of slightly bitter black coffee, black pepper, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing just a bit through the first third but otherwise staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was decently flavorful but missed my wheelhouse by a bit. Strength was about medium. (28/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. The burn continued wavily into the 2nd third, then got lopsided going into the last third and a couple of touch-ups were needed before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained mostly optimal throughout. (15/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. Not the most impressive smoke with both flavor and construction being somewhat sub-par, although some might enjoy the flavors more than I did. On paper, the blend definitely seems interesting with filler coming from Brazil in addition to the DR and Nicaragua. Topped off with a Mexican wrapper and you'd think this would be tastier than it was, but again, some might find more here than I could. (27/35)

Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with plenty of spice and that citrus hint to keep things interesting throughout. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came in a brand sampler from Cigar Page awhile back. A really nice morning smoke with both flavor and construction getting the job done flawlessly and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35)

Nice looking wrapper, slight oily sheen,  pretty smooth with only a couple small vein lines, box press,  cannon is slightly spongy but not concerning. Cap is well done and it takes a punch cut well. Draw is pretty open.
Getting a decent hit of spice in the retro. There's a sweet hint with each puff and a walnut almond mix of flavor. The ash dropped on me at about 3/4 of an inch and wasn't real solid but burn line is staying straight and smoke production is your.
Picking up some toasted malt notes in the second third sort of taking over for the nutty combo.
The last third reverts back to the nutty combination but with a little more sweetness and a hint of cream.
Overall a decent smoke.  Burn was a little fast at about 45 minutes but it never got hot and although it wasn't much for complexity it had enough going to keep me interested.  Never really more than medium strength.

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black coffee, black pepper, leather, spice, and a hint of something like sweet bread. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and not far from my wheelhouse for this type of Broadleaf blend. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (32/35)

Overall impression: This was the last blend from this brand sampler that arrived from Cigar Page awhile back. They've all been pretty good, flavorful, well-constructed smokes but this was the best of the bunch. Loads of tasty maduro-ish flavor and excellent construction makes for a great smoking experience and that's what I got from this one. Glad I have a few more to enjoy. (32/35)

La Galera Habano Chaveta delivers a smooth, medium-bodied Dominican smoke with rich cedar, creamy notes and hints of white pepper and vanilla developing through the smoke. Excellent construction, even burn and evolving complexity make it a very enjoyable cigar that steadily reveals wood, spice and cream from first light to the finish.

Humidimeter reading: Head - 64, foot - 64
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich wood, coffee, black pepper, spice, and a hint of chocolate. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third but otherwise consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was pushing medium/full by the end. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn was wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued wavily but self-correcting through the remainder and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained at the low side of optimal throughout. (17/20)

Overall impression: This one came in a brand sampler from Cigar Page awhile back. This one was easily the most tightly wrapped of the three robustos from this sampler and the smoke time reflected that, lasting the longest of the three. Pretty good smoke even with the slightly restricted draw and reduced smoke output as no touch-ups were needed in spite of the somewhat wandering burn line. Flavors were good for a maduro, if not really anything amazing or unusual. I'd smoke it again. (30/35)

Corona vitola is one of my favotites and this was a pigtailed version. Straight cut to remove pigtail and cut cap. Prelight aroma of barnyard and earth. Combustion produced a delicious thick chewy smoke and a nice baking spice and mocha notes. Construction was spot on and the cigar wrapper was very smooth. Smaller ring size equals more wrapper to filler so the corojo was very prominent in the flavor aspect. More coffee notes with a hint of dried nuts. Very nice blend.
