Welcome to a Geek Critique of a cigar generously provided to us by David at https://www.egars.com/" target="_blank">egars.com.  The Camacho Liberty Series, now 18 years strong, is launched annually ahead of the July 4th holiday to celebrate and honor the birth and history of the United States. The Liberty Series blends have been comprised of tobaccos from a variety of different origins, as well as vintages. The 2020 Liberty Series blend utilizes four different primings, all which come from a single farm and single vintage, and aged four years. This distinct blend truly showcases the versatility and multitude of flavors that can be achieved when utilizing this incredible varietal. Special thanks goes out to David at https://www.egars.com/" target="_blank">egars.com for providing the cigars and to Wescat (Kevin) for coordinating this!

This cigar was enjoyed with Cucumber Lime Gatorade

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Semi dry, silky smooth wrapper with very minimal veins. The cap is well applied, and cut easily with a straight cut. The cannon is well packed, with a little give when pinched. The aroma off the foot is of slightly sweet tobacco.

Lighting and Burn: 5 Points of 15 Possible

Burn was nice for the first third. Ash was solid and held for a little over an inch. Ash color was a dark gray/black combination, for the first third, smoke output was great. After that, I came into a serious construction issue. The last 2/3 of the cigar was spent trying to fight through a large tunnel. It never went out, but I had to use a lighter to try and even out the cigar 3 different times.

Construction: 10 Points of 30 Possible

The cold draw is nice and fairly wide open, and has a slight saltiness to it. The wrapper is well applied, with a nice and deep brown color. The cap is well applied, and stays intact after cutting. The cigar seems well packed, and I did not detect any soft spots.

Flavor and Aroma: 25 Points of 45 Possible

The cigar starts out with a mild touch of pepper, a bit of sweetness, and a dry cedar wood taste up front. The smoke is also very dry on the palate, and had a slight bite to it. The retrohale enhanced the sweetness slightly. After the first third, the cigar did not deliver anything other than the dry smoke/wood combination, and left a bitter taste in my mouth due to the huge tunneling issue.

Summary

Well, I am disappointed with my first Liberty 2020. The construction issues took away the brief enjoyment I had with the first third of the cigar. The tunneling issue was simply too much to overcome and get any kind of positive cigar experience from it. I will give this cigar another shot, but this one fell far from meeting the expectations I have when smoking the Liberty Series. I want to thank Kevin for allowing me to participate in the critique, and I look forward to giving this cigar another chance. This is a nice reminder for me that when enjoying a hand rolled cigar, sometimes you get a dud.
