Welcome to a Geek Critique of a cigar generously provided to us by David at https://www.egars.com/" target="_blank">egars.com.  The Camacho Liberty Series, now 18 years strong, is launched annually ahead of the July 4th holiday to celebrate and honor the birth and history of the United States. The Liberty Series blends have been comprised of tobaccos from a variety of different origins, as well as vintages. The 2020 Liberty Series blend utilizes four different primings, all which come from a single farm and single vintage, and aged four years. This distinct blend truly showcases the versatility and multitude of flavors that can be achieved when utilizing this incredible varietal. Special thanks goes out to David at https://www.egars.com/" target="_blank">egars.com for providing the cigars and to Wescat (Kevin) for coordinating this!

This cigar was enjoyed with Two Hearted Ale

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

This cigar was firm throughout from head to foot with small veins through the wrapper.  The aroma prior to being lit was slight barnyard with a typical tobacco aroma.   It has a very slight oily feel to it.  The cap cut clean and straight with a guillotine cutter.  After cutting, the head and foot revealed all tobacco filler with no signs of heavy veins in the mix.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

In the initial lighting, it started out with a straight burn line and remained that way for about 1.5 inches before getting a bit jagged.  The cigar did not require any relights or touch ups and the burn corrected itself.  At that point, the cigar burned straight to the end.  The ash was light grey and a bit flaky.  The ash didn't fall until 1.5 inches when the burn got a bit jagged.   The smoke volume was adequate and increased into the 2/3 point.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The cap was well done but not perfection, the last portion of it was lifting from the head a bit.  It did not take away from cutting, it cut clean and straight. Thee wrapper was rolled seamlessly with small veins in the leaf. The initial draw was spot on with a slight resistance and was great from start to finish.

The box press in a gordo size is new to the Liberty line, a rectangular press in shape.  While I really like the figurado releases, this is a nice change of pace and don't take away or add to the score.

Flavor and Aroma: 39 Points of 45 Possible

The initial flavors in 1/3 were a bit nutty, woody and a hint of spice with some baking spices like cinnamon in the mix. The overall strength was medium plus. The flavors in the 1/3 were enjoyable and mixed well.  Into the 2/3 the strength increased to nearly medium full with the cinnamon spice still hanging in there with the woody nutty flavors.  I did pick up on a slight citrus flavor in this part of the cigar. The flavors blend well and even a bit creamy at this point.  At the 3/3 point I really enjoyed the flavors mixing in with the tobacco while never being over bearing and hanging in there at near medium full in strength and body.  The complexity of the cigar was there but not a huge factor in flavor although the cinnamon stayed nearly throughout and the score in the flavors area reflects that.  The cigar was enjoyable down to the end

Summary

Once again, Camacho put out a good Liberty this year and it was an enjoyable cigar.  In scoring, the flavors took the biggest hit on points.  While enjoyable, it was not in my opinion a cigar that rocked my taste buds warranting a score over the 89 I gave it some of that relating to the price point.  To fully reveal the review process, I got interrupted with unexpected company at about the halfway point of the first cigar and had to cease the review I was doing.  In all fairness of the review process, I had another cigar to start the review over.  While there were some slight differences in the 2, it would have only made a difference of a few points.  While both came out of the same humidor at the same RH, the 2nd burned better and the flavors were a bit more complex than the 1st one that I didn't finish.
