Welcome to a Geek Critique of a cigar generously provided to us by David at https://www.egars.com/" target="_blank">egars.com. The Camacho Liberty Series, now 18 years strong, is launched annually ahead of the July 4th holiday to celebrate and honor the birth and history of the United States. The Liberty Series blends have been comprised of tobaccos from a variety of different origins, as well as vintages. The 2020 Liberty Series blend utilizes four different primings, all which come from a single farm and single vintage, and aged four years. This distinct blend truly showcases the versatility and multitude of flavors that can be achieved when utilizing this incredible varietal. Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible
This year's stick is a biggie a 6-60, which is my go to size. Needless to say the box graphics and artwork make for a fine initial presentation. The stick, was removed from the box coffin box and allowed to rest in my humi at 65RH and 70 degrees for about four weeks prior to smoking. Its pre-light feel was firm to the touch with an aroma that seemed pleasing, reminding me of grass and cedar. The cap was perfect, and there were very minimal veins in the wrapper. I choose a v-cut for this one.
Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible
Easy toasting and the stick was easy to light, and burned evenly for the most part. One minor touch up to even out the burn was required about half way through. The stick gave off ample smoke that was pleasing, a little fruity / cedar smell detected. The ash was a grey white color that held firm for about an inch and a half segments. I got 85 minutes out of this one.
Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible
The stick was well constructed and firm, yet had a very smooth easy draw from the onset. No adjustments necessary and no EZ Draw butchering was needed. The cap, wrapper and fillers were all above average to excellent, with no disappointing qualities of note.
Flavor and Aroma: 42 Points of 45 Possible
My experience with Camacho cigars have always seemed to favor the spicy - peppery side. This stick seems to be more of a sweet taste which I found to my liking. Maybe a blast of fruit / honey at the beginning and end, not sure but definitely something sweet in this stick. I did not notice a lot of differences between the first, second and third stages except for the blast of sweetness mentioned at the beginning and end. I found this to be a relatively smooth smoke, with constant easy draw and I'd put it at a medium strength. Not overly complex, and the smoke volumes, aromas and smoke progression were constant and pleasing throughout.
Summary
I liked this one a great deal - not what I expected, but sure glad I got a full box, because I see many more of these sticks enjoyed in the coming North Carolina nights.
