Lirio Rojo translates to "red lilly" from Spanish. The 2019 limited release of the Lirio Rojo is a new size, a 6 3/8 x 42 lonsdale vitola rolled with a 109 cap, which is basically a combination of a belicoso cap and a normal cap. In previous years, this cigar was only produced in a corona vitola. However, while the vitola size and the cap used on the cigars were changed for 2019's release, other details remained the same (i.e. the blend remained a Nicaraguan puro that was sold in cabinets of 50 without bands.)

This cigar was enjoyed with Perrier Lime

Pre-Light: 8 Points of 10 Possible

Cinnamon brown wrapper with a ruddy appearance visible veins and seams. Very firm packed filler with dense construction from head to foot. This cigar had no band. The head was a bullet shape and cap was visible and tight. The cigar had a pleasant barnyard aroma which tickled the nose producing the urge to sneeze. Removing about 1/4 inch with guillotine cutter was uneventful with no damage to the cap. Cold  draw was open with slight resistance and had notes of natural tobacco and spice.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar was lighted after toasting with a gas torch. The burn was not razor sharp but required no touch ups. Some mild canoeing seem to self correct and was never extreme. The ash was solid and grey in color. It fell in 3 hard chunks breaking away evenly. This stick smoked with a ample volume of smoke throughout the 55 minute burn time. Re-lights were not required. The stick turned a little softer at about 40 minutes but that may had been the outdoor humidity. It never became mushy or spongy.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The cigar was solid and densely packed but draw was consistent throughout with only one spot that seemed to burn through at the end of the 1st third. The wrapper remained in tack with no lifting or loose edges. The cap was solid and cut cleanly.

Flavor and Aroma: 41 Points of 45 Possible

In the 1st third I was rewarded with a creamy coating of the palate. The body was light to medium the flavor profile contained notes of cedar, leather with cinnamon and black pepper. The strength was mild to medium. I didn't notice any real sweetness. The 2nd third continued to build with more spice and pepper was more predominate but not unpleasant. The flavor profile remained the same cinnamon and baking spices with the addition of black coffee and more black pepper. The strength picked up a notch to a strong medium. I didn't since any burning in the throat and the cigar was smooth and inviting. The final third produced an increase in pepper over taking the milder leather, cedar, cinnamon and spices it became more earthy but not harsh. The flavor had no major transitions and remained mostly consistent with added strength. It became a strong medium in strength in the second half.

Summary

Overall the Warped Lirio Rojo 2019 is a very nice cigar. It is consistent in flavor throughout without major transitions. It is well constructed and smokes wonderfully. The 42 ring gauge suits it well. It will be added to my collection for future enjoyment.
