Warped Lirio Rojo 2019

Lirio Rojo translates to "red lilly" from Spanish. The 2019 limited release of the Lirio Rojo is a new size, a 6 3/8 x 42 lonsdale vitola rolled with a 109 cap, which is basically a combination of a belicoso cap and a normal cap. In previous years, this cigar was only produced in a corona vitola. However, while the vitola size and the cap used on the cigars were changed for 2019's release, other details remained the same (i.e. the blend remained a Nicaraguan puro that was sold in cabinets of 50 without bands.)

This cigar was enjoyed with coffee

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Beautiful medium brown wrapper, had a nice silky feel, some minor veins but nothing objectionable. Cigar has a firm feel but not overpacked. The aroma was a mix of leather notes and cocoa. Straight cut went without an issue.

Lighting and Burn: 11 Points of 15 Possible

Burning nicely to start, nice medium volume of smoke. Ash is fairly tightly packed and holding well, nice straight burn line. Midway through first third it canoed a bit. After a touched it settled in and required no more maintenance. Cigar lasted a little over an hour.

Construction: 26 Points of 30 Possible

Nicely constructed cigar, beautiful wrapper with a great open draw. After a straight cut it didn't leave any pieces of tobacco in the mouth. Slight canoe in beginning but after a touchup it behaved better.

Flavor and Aroma: 41 Points of 45 Possible

Medium strength, grassy, woody notes in the first third. No spice to speak of. Mid point it developed a bit of sharpness, not quite metallic flavor but by no means unpleasant at all. Woody/cedar flavors becoming more pronounced as well. Last third was consistent with the middle.

Summary

This cigar is very enjoyable. Virtually trouble free other than the initial touchup. I have become very fond of this vitola as well, having moved away from the big ring gauges. I would definitely like to get my hands on some more of these. Smoked it to the nub.

Thanks Dave for including me on this critique !
