Foundation Cigar Co. The Tabernacle Havana Seed CT No. 142 Toro

As the name of this cigar would suggest, the wrapper is Havana Seed CT #142, a variation of a Cuban-seed tobacco grown in Connecticut. Much of the rest of the line is shared with the original Tabernacle: the same filler components and the same four sizes. That means a Mexican San Andrés binder over a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers, though Nicholas Melillo has said there is less Honduran tobacco than the original line.

This cigar was enjoyed with Bourbon

Pre-Light: 10 Points of 10 Possible

Beautiful looking cigar.  It has a really rich dark brown wrapper with a nice smooth, oily sheen and minimal veins.

Sniff test and pre-light draw: I picked up a sweetness which was a mix of chocolate and fruit (cherries?)

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

Cap was clipped perfectly and the lighting was a breeze.   The burn itself was a little wonky at first but evened out nicely.   The cigar did not need any touch ups.   The ash was a dark grey and solid. Not too firm so I didn't get anything longer than an inch before it fell off loosely. The cigar let off a nice amount of smoke volume and a sweet aroma.

Construction: 25 Points of 30 Possible

This was a very nicely constructed cigar.  As mentioned above. It was tightly rolled and packed!  Because of this, it affected the draw at the beginning. It was a bit overly resistant to start however I was able to maintain a consistent smoke throughout.

Flavor and Aroma: 43 Points of 45 Possible

Ah, the flavors!  This was a really interesting cigar with a few more flavor profiles than I normally pick up.  Pre-light draw was woodsy with sweet fruitiness to it.

First Third - Was a light spice with a woodsy overtone. Cedar

Second Third - Strength picked up and I tasted a bit more pepper but also a fruitiness (cross between cherry and orange) but also Cocoa

Final Third - Peppery spice remained but it wasn't over powering and I picked up more of a espresso/coffee flavor.

The aroma throughout was excellent. Really liked this cigar

Summary

Thank you for letting me participate.   This was a VERY enjoyable cigar from start to finish. I really liked the various flavors that I picked up from earthy, wood, fruit and cocoa. I would like to thank Beegerply (Byron) and Bruce for allowing me to participate.   This is a cigar I will definitely look to be adding to the humidor in the future.
