In 2018, Casa Fernández changed its name to AGANORSA Leaf, and the Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection became the first new brand under the company's new direction. The Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection captures the essence of Cuba's golden years. A medium-strength Nicaraguan puro, the Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection features a natural Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper with a Corojo binder, and a blended filler made of Corojo and Criollo 98 tobaccos, presented in gold foil to be the company's new showpiece cigar.

This cigar was enjoyed with Water

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

The cigar is very firm with a slight yielding as pressure is applied. It has a dry, almost paper bag like appearance and very smooth except for a couple of small veins. The cap is a pigtail. It cut very cleanly with my multi-tool and left no fraying or hanging chads. The pre-light aroma is very sweet with floral notes and with hints of maple syrup.

Lighting and Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar lit easily with my soft-flame lighter. The draw is near perfect with it being just slightly tight but not enough to need a draw poker. The cigar produces a moderate amount of smoke at rest but an ample amount of gray-white smoke during inhalation. The burn is very slow for this size of cigar and almost perfectly even.

Construction: 29 Points of 30 Possible

There is gold foil over half of the cigar with double white bands, possibly to obscure the rather plain appearance of the cigar. It has a very unremarkable, almost cardboard box color wrapper but no real issues in construction. The cap held together through the entire smoke and there were no issues at all during the smoke.

Flavor and Aroma: 43 Points of 45 Possible

First third: The cigar starts with a very creamy, buttery taste and hints of nuts on the draw. The initial retrohale is an explosion of black pepper spice. The cigar is a medium/full at the start. As it progresses, the pepper diminishes and the nuttiness increases.

Second Third: The strong pepper returns as the 2nd third begins but flavors have changed to more of a cocoa and coffee taste that were not noticeable before. As it progresses, the pepper again recedes slowly but the more nutty quality returns.

Last Third: Once again the pepper returns to begin the final third but now with a citris and vanilla flavor. The flavor returns back to the original buttery, creamy sweetness of the first third and the pepper, after receding, return at the very end.

Summary

This is an absolutely outstanding cigar, especially for the price point, around $10/cigar. It is definitely a treat of complexity that deserves its own time and space for full enjoyment. The flavor changes and the constant up and down of the spice factor make it a subtle roller coaster of differing experiences. The more experienced palate may enjoy this cigar more, but there is definitely something for everyone with this cigar. My next stop after submitting this review is to find a box to purchase.
