The Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection captures the essence of Cuba's golden years. A medium-strength Nicaraguan puro, the Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection features a natural Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper with a Corojo binder, and a blended filler made of Corojo and Criollo 98 tobaccos, presented in gold foil to be the company's new showpiece cigar.

This cigar was enjoyed with water.

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

When I first received this cigar, I was impressed by the presentation. The silver/white double bands are simple but elegant, and the rest of the cigar is wrapped in gold foil. Once that is removed, the cigar itself is a milk chocolate color with a lot of smooth, very fine veins. Feeling along the length of the cigar, it feels evenly bunched and nicely filled, and the cap is cleanly applied. Both the prelight aroma and cold draw were in the earthy/leathery side of the spectrum.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar lights easily and produces a moderate amount of smoke with each draw. The dark gray ash is flakey and falls in half inch intervals. While it never required touch-ups, the burn line was wavy the entire length. It is a slow burning cigar, lasting about an hour and forty-five minutes.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

Construction was great for the most part! The draw was near perfect, with a good amount of resistance. Smoke output was little less than I desire, but it seemed to increase in the latter half. The wrapper and cap held up well with no splits, tunnels, or runners. As mentioned above, the burn line was wavy the entire length, but it never required any touch-ups.

Flavor and Aroma: 38 Points of 45 Possible

1/2 - It opens up with a heavy dose of red pepper for about the first half inch. Once that subsides, the core flavor is earthiness with a creamy retrohale. One noticeable characteristic is the smoke is "dry", so it was good to have water on hand. It was full flavored, medium strength.

2/2 - About halfway through, the pepper has completely subsided and the core flavors of earth, leather, and cedar come to the forefront. Both the flavor and strength subside to a solid medium.

Summary

Overall, I enjoyed this cigar. It wasn't overly complex, but the core flavor after the initial blast of pepper was very enjoyable. The presentation is awesome, and construction was excellent. This is definitely a cigar I'd recommend trying, especially if you like earthy/woodsy profiles.
