The Hype: At Cházaro, we carefully select the best San Andrés Negro tobacco leaves harvested in San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz. The leaves are traditionally cured in barns for many months, after that they are fermented for 3 years. The Habana Cházaro cigar gives in more to the touch, completely smooth and perfectly made, its color is characteristic of the Habana leaf, a cigar with a pleasing quality profile. The cigar is composed of 50% strong tobacco and 50% mild tobacco giving the smoker a medium strength smoking experience.

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

The wrapper is what I would call natural for a color with a decent sheen to it. There are a few vein lines but nothing to serious and the wrapper appears smooth and it's application is very well done. The cap is well done and the overall feel of the cigar is firm and well rolled. The pre-light aroma is a slightly sweet tobacco that is apparent in the draw as well which is slightly firm.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar took to the flame well and burned a almost perfect line for the first 3/4 of a inch before dropping the solid little light grey nugget squarely in my lap without warning. This continued through the entire smoke. Aside from the ash drop thing this was a well mannered cigar. The burn line was always pretty straight and never required correction,  smoke production was good and it burned slow and cool, I just wish it could hold onto its ash a little better.

Construction: 29 Points of 30 Possible

The wrapper has a nice oily sheen to it with a nice natural brown hue and seems very well applied. The triple cap is well done and took a punch cut without incident. The draw is slightly firm which is just about right for a cigar in the Corona size.

Flavor and Aroma: 38 Points of 45 Possible

Right off I am noticing a toasted sugar cane, some wood notes, almond hints and a nice touch of spice in the retro. Smoke production is good and overall this first third is proving to be very enjoyable.

The second third is marked by a bit of a molasses hint and some vanilla esters, the spice has picked up a touch and the wood is still present.

The last third is a nice blending of the flavors, wood and caramel, vanilla and coffee, some malt and a nice spicey sweet medium duration aftertaste.

Summary

Pretty good cigar for a Mexican puro, heck, a good cigar no matter where it's origins.  Smoked slow and cool and had a really nice flavor profile with good smoke production and solid construction, my only complaint is it's tendency to drop ash without warning. Thanks to Brian for letting me participate. Definitely a cigar worth having in the humi.
