Miami Robusto.

The Hype: The Miami limited edition, also known as the Thermonuclear, is powerful, so make sure you sit down while you smoke it. This cigar takes its name from the legendary volcano that is located just outside of the Nicaraguan city of Granada. When you first light it up, you can see that the name makes sense. This solid, full bodied smoke is made of 100% aged Nicaraguan tobaccos. The wrapper is from the infamous Jalapa region, known for its oily and spicy tobaccos. The original Mombacho Thermonuclear was introduced in 2004 by Tabacalera Tropical (the company now known as Casa Fernández) and was made in Honduras. In 2016, production was moved to Casa Fernández in Miami, using the same all Nicaraguan blend as the original cigar, and making it an exclusive to Serious Cigars of Houston, Texas (now owned by JR Cigars). Mombacho by Aganorsa should not be confused with another Nicaraguan brand also carrying the name. (There are two different Mombacho brands in the U.S.)

This cigar was enjoyed with Guinness Stout

Pre-Light: 8 Points of 10 Possible

This was a nice looking stick with a colorado maduro wrapper, tight visible seams with minimal veins. It has a triple cap. Great looking double band, nice presentation. The pre-light aroma was a nice tobacco with a hint of barnyard. The pre-light draw was earthy and with some resistance.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

The triple cap made for an easy cut. The stick toasted up nicely and burned evenly after one touch up in the first third. The initial ash held on for a little over 2 inches and was dark gray and black. This trend held for the remainder of the smoke; although, a bit flaky. I have no major complaints as the burn was cool and the flavor was great.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The stick is very firm with one minor defect. There was a small spot in the first third, probably nicked at the factory. The draw was easy/just right throughout the smoke. It had great smoke output. It maintained its firm and tight construction to the nub.

Flavor and Aroma: 41 Points of 45 Possible

In the first few puffs I got a bit of pepper and spice which transitioned to an earthy flavor with hints of pepper which lingered for a bit. It quickly transitioned to an earthier flavor with hints of leather which lingered for a bit. There is pepper that definitely stands out on the retrohale. At the midpoint it transitioned to a great leathery flavor that lingers on the palate. The leather with small hints of pepper held on to the nub, love this profile. The strength definitely kicks in by the end, this is a full body full strength smoke!

Summary

After receiving the Mombacho a little over three weeks ago, I left the stick at 65% RH until I pulled it out to smoke. It was a full body building to full strength in the last third. Total burn time was right at an hour. This is a very enjoyable smoke and I can't wait to try the other vitolas. Thanks for the opportunity to try this Pete!
