Miami Robusto.

The Hype: The Miami limited edition, also known as the Thermonuclear, is powerful, so make sure you sit down while you smoke it. This cigar takes its name from the legendary volcano that is located just outside of the Nicaraguan city of Granada. When you first light it up, you can see that the name makes sense. This solid, full bodied smoke is made of 100% aged Nicaraguan tobaccos. The wrapper is from the infamous Jalapa region, known for its oily and spicy tobaccos. The original Mombacho Thermonuclear was introduced in 2004 by Tabacalera Tropical (the company now known as Casa Fernández) and was made in Honduras. In 2016, production was moved to Casa Fernández in Miami, using the same all Nicaraguan blend as the original cigar, and making it an exclusive to Serious Cigars of Houston, Texas (now owned by JR Cigars). Mombacho by Aganorsa should not be confused with another Nicaraguan brand also carrying the name. (There are two different Mombacho brands in the U.S.)

This cigar was enjoyed with water

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Slightly oily sheen on the wrapper with minimal veins.  The cap came off clean with a straight cut.  The body was firm but it still had a smooth draw.  A bit of spice on the lips and the cold draw had some black pepper and a hint of chocolate.  The cello was nice and brown.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

I lit this with a soft flame, the smoke output was on the light side unless you kept up on it.  The ash was solid, medium grey and fell at about an inch and a half.  There was a bit of a wave to the burn.  Just past the halfway point it almost went out and I had to work at it to keep it going.

Construction: 23 Points of 30 Possible

The construction seemed pretty solid with the exception of a small (3/16") hole in the wrapper.  The seems were barely noticeable.  The draw was almost perfect considering the dense and firm feel of the cigar.

Flavor and Aroma: 36 Points of 45 Possible

As expected from a triple ligero, the pepper hit me full blast at the start.

1st third- Spicy black pepper with a strong nicotine punch. Some espresso flavors with a hint of sweetness.

2nd Third- The sweetness fades out along with the spice, but the pepper is still there.  The espresso turns into a cedar wood flavor.

3rd third- The pepper comes back a little heavier and cedar sticks around.  There was a bit of a metallic taste to finish it off.  Near the end I had to purge it a few times to keep a bitterness away.

Summary

This was my first cigar in 5 days and it definitely hit me like a "Nuke" on the fresh palate and nicotine free system.  I liked the strength even though it hit hard at first, I havent felt that in a while. The draw and overall performance on the cigar was very enjoyable.  It's not for the beginner, but I think those that prefer a strong smoke could gravitate towards this one.
