Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to a Geek Critique of a cigar generously provided to us by David at" target="_blank">  This year marks 19 years of Camacho Liberty, a series that is one of the most highly-anticipated annual releases for collectors and aficionados of bold, full-frontal cigars. Launched ahead of the July 4th holiday to celebrate and honor the birth and history of the United States, this special series is like no other. The blend in this series has been comprised from tobaccos of a variety of regions and vintages, making it a knockout cigar for Camacho. The 2021 Liberty Series blend captures the strength and character of four distinct regions. Our blenders have harnessed these daring qualities into the classic Churchill format. It's bold and explosive, yet also balanced in its depth. Only 1,500 boxes available nationally. Special thanks goes out to David at" target="_blank"> for providing the cigars and to Wescat (Kevin) for coordinating this!

This cigar was enjoyed with Cucumber Lime Gatorade

Pre-Light: 10 Points of 10 Possible

The wrapper is on the dry side, with one small yet prominent vein. The rest of the cigar is fairly smooth. The wrapper has a nice reddish brown hue, and looks great with the rather large Liberty band. The cap is well applied, and remained intact after a v cut. The cannon is on the firm side, and the foot yields a nice, sweet tobacco aroma.

Lighting and Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

The burn was near perfect, with it being just a bit uneven in the first third. The ash held solid, and fell off in 1/2" chunks. The color was predominately white, with some light black striping here and there. The burn rate was perfect, not too fast or slow. No re-lights were required, and the smoke volume was on the medium side.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The draw was perfect, with the exact amount of resistance to give. The wrapper was well applied, and except for one small vein, the presentation was wonderful. The cap stayed intact after cutting, and held for the duration of the smoke.

Flavor and Aroma: 40 Points of 45 Possible

The cigar starts off with a rather deep, oaky flavor, along with a nutty coffee note, and a very subtle sweetness. Further in, and the oak notes fade to the back, and the coffee sweetness really shines up front. There is a rather small amount of black pepper, and the notes of nuttiness remain. The cigar finishes about the same, but the oak notes return, without overtaking the natural sweetness of the tobacco. The room notes are very pleasant, even my wife liked the way it smelled! The aftertaste was pleasant, and the retrohale was very smooth. The strength and body are both in the medium plus range.

I really enjoyed this cigar. The oak notes were perfect with the coffee and pepper, and the natural sweetness was very pleasant. My entire experience smoking this cigar was excellent, and I look forward to smoking this cigar again. Thank you to Kevin for allowing me to participate in this GC!!
