This cigar was enjoyed with Water and some Bowmore Gold Reef

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Received the Hyena 2 weeks ago and let it rest. nice dry wrapper, smooth, pre light draw is good, slightly firm, smells of sweet earth and cedar. Cap was perfectly formed and wrapper had only a few dark imperfections. Great looking and well made stick overall.

Lighting and Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

Nice solid ash, dark grey ash, nice volume of smoke in the 1st quarter. Burn is mostly straight into the 1st third, no touch ups yet.  Burn needed a touch up at the halfway point and needed a small relight at the final third.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

Nice smooth wrapper and medium/dark color, medium pack, Nice roll with a nice pig tail, great draw pre-light and on light. Ash holding on 2-3 inches at a time before I dont trust it anymore.  Cigar went out in last two inches and needed a relight.

Flavor and Aroma: 42 Points of 45 Possible

Strength is a solid medium and body is full - very smooth, black pepper, spicy, hints of citrus and a long finish.  Hints of sweetness on the retro and cedar. Nutty flavor is starting to come in on the 2nd third and slight bitter after taste which went away in the final third. Strength is medium-full through the first 2/3s and slightly dropping down to medium in the final third.  Final third, sweetness is still there on the retrohale and still a woody taste that has changed to oak flavor.

Summary

I love Black Works Studio sticks and this one is no exception.  Great flavor on this Hyena.  Sweetness and woody with spicy flavors thrown into the mix.  I would reach for this one again.  Thanks Byron.
