This cigar was enjoyed with Dr. Pepper

Pre-Light: 10 Points of 10 Possible

The cigar looked great, a nice smooth dry Connecticut wrapper, with a pigtail cap. It smelled of mild tobacco pre-light, with no really hard or soft spots in the cigar. It looked like it would be a really good and pleasant smoke!

Lighting and Burn: 11 Points of 15 Possible

The burn of the cigar was good, it had a light grey ash, that held on for the first inch or so. The burn rate was good, no runners, or tunnels, or anything crazy, just a good sharp burn line. Once I got to the halfway mark, it did go out, and then again at about the last 1/3 mark, and I just couldn't force myself to relight it by this time. the whole time I smoked it though, there was a large volume of smoke produced by the cigar. It did produce a lot of tar in the cigar though, which was off putting, even after cutting it a second time to rid it of the tar.

Construction: 20 Points of 30 Possible

The draw of the cigar was just right, not too tight, and not too loose. The wrapper had a hole in it though, just about a half inch from where you would smoke the cigar. So, you had air coming up out of it and you could feel it blowing on your face as you took a draw on the cigar. That was a little weird, but you just had to put a little more of the cigar into your mouth to get it to stop doing that. It had 3 cigar leaves inside the cigar that were wrapped in with the other leaves that got black with tar as the cigar was smoked, giving a bitter off putting taste. A cut of the tip was done to rid this, and it just came back.

Flavor and Aroma: 7 Points of 45 Possible

This cigar started out with a bitter, hay, grassy, and dirt flavor. It hit the front of my tongue and coated my whole tongue with a bitter, sharp twang on my tongue. It was followed by just a grassy, moldy hay flavor that was bitter, and only got worse. This went on through the first third, maybe a little more of the cigar. When I was about to put it out, due to harshness, I got a little reprieve, as the bitterness went away a little as I clipped the tip again, and some tar that had build up went away, though the leaves inside the cigar were still tar covered. I could see 3 leaves that were black and tar covered in the mix of my cigar leaves in the cigar. The hay and moldy grass flavor stuck as the main taste throughout the rest of the cigar with bitterness growing as I smoked it more. It went out at about halfway, and the relight was almost worse smoking it than the burned ash taste of the cigar that went out. After it went out again around the last third, I just gave up as I didn't want to smoke anymore of it. If it wasn't a review cigar, I would have thrown it out after the first few puffs of it!

Summary

I was REALLY REALLY looking forward to this cigar, as I LOVE a lot of the JDN cigars. I have heard so many good reviews about this cigar, and the complexity of the cigar, and the smoothness of the cigar, but I really didn't get any of that in this cigar. I will be trying this one again, as I must have gotten a fluke with all the amazing reviews that I have seen on these cigars. Writing this review, even now, an hour after I smoked the cigar, I have a sharp bitterness that is on both sides of my tongue that I can't get to go away. I really hope I jut got a fluke cigar of these!
