L’Ambassadeur, a parejo 6 5/8 x 44 tailed Lonsdale. Número Uno uses a silky and delicate Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. “Número Uno was developed as a unique gift and later an event-exclusive cigar, and although it wasn’t the original intention, we decided to make Número Uno available to a bigger audience.” – Said Dr. Alejandro Martínez Cuenca, Chairman of Joya de Nicaragua.
This cigar was enjoyed with Coffee

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

The wrapper is a nice looking leaf and pretty well applied but there is a rather bad wrinkle on one side. The cap is a bit crooked but well attached. The cannon feels a little spongy but solid enough.  It takes a punch well even with it's little twist on top and the draw is good.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

Took to the fire well enough but the ash is flowering right away and is almost black in color. After the first inch and a half or so the ash straightened out and the color became more salt and pepper like and solid.

The burn was good start to finish and it burned slow and cool as long as I didn't push the pace. Smoke production is very good delivering large amounts with each puff.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The wrapper is a nice looking leaf with a few minor vein lines but mostly smooth with a slight sheen.  The cigar I received has a fairly large wrinkle on one part where it got away from the roller for a moment but aside from that I can't fault the wrapper. The cap is a little crooked but well attached but the little twist on top seems to detract from the overall appearance for me. Not really a pig tail,  just a twist like they took the easy way out. It took a punch well enough though and the draw was good so aside from the wrinkle in the wrapper and the weird cap I can't find any fault with its construction.

Flavor and Aroma: 39 Points of 45 Possible

It starts nice with decent spice in the retro. Flavors of almond, espresso and wood with a hint of sweet cream in the finish.

The sweet notes pick up in the second third but otherwise the flavors remain the same.

The last third has a fade in the sweet notes and espresso takes the lead. Still getting wood and almond but they are more in the background now. It's a full strength cigar but the balance is good so it comes across smooth.

Summary

This was a enjoyable 2 hours. Although there wasn't a lot of complexity there was enough to keep it interesting and the profile was a good one with a nice balance and very good smoke production.  Definitely worth getting a few.
