In 2014 to celebrate the partnership with Cigar Club Mareva, home of the Cigar Smoking World Championship (CSWC), Casdagli Cigars launched the Club Mareva Line. Based in a 1500s Venetian building in the heart of the historic city of Split, Croatia, the Cigar Club Mareva is the labor of love of its founder Marko Bilic who designed the interior and hosts cigar smokers there from around the world. Mareva Especial was launched to celebrate the 2016 Cigar Smoking World Championship (CSWC) finals held at Cigar Club Mareva. All the leaves have been sourced by Hendrik Kelner Jr and aged between 3 to 5 years in the Kelner Boutique Factory (KBF) prior to blending and rolling. The chosen blend was selected by the Founder and President of Cigar Club Mareva Marko Bilic on his visit to the Dominican Republic in January 2016.

This cigar was enjoyed with water

Pre-Light: 10 Points of 10 Possible

I have to say this is the sweetest tobacco smelling cigar I have ever encountered. Roughly 5 7/8"long and I would guess 46-48 ring gauge. It comes with a closed foot and a pigtail nice looking stick. Its a mocha color with a semi dry feel with a couple visible veins and seams. There are no soft spot sand it cuts great.

Lighting and Burn: 15 Points of 15 Possible

The smell of this stick made great anticipation in lighting it up. It fire up no problem. The burn on this stick was near perfect for the whole stick. The ash was solid with a light gray color with black stripes that held on for an inch. The smoke volume is great with very little effort. Fairly slow burner the whole stick last about 1hr.30min.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The construction on this stick are impeccable starting with the closed foot to the pigtail. The draw was dead on from start to finish and never got hot. The only thing that would bring it down would be 2 pretty good size veins and the visible seams, other than that I seen nothing.

Flavor and Aroma: 40 Points of 45 Possible

1st Third - The stick fires up with no issues. I let it warm up and what I get first is a nice sweet cedar with a little spice on the retro. The first thing I think about Cuban. After a few minutes I start getting some earthiness and some cinnamon in the back ground. Near the end of this third I start getting some creaminess and more spice. The strength at this time is medium-full and lasts about 30min. Great burning stick.

2nd Third - Still great burning stick with lots of smoke. Really enjoying this stick. I'm getting a lot more spice and red pepper at the start of this third and I can tell buy my stomach it is now full strength. The cedar is now background and I no longer think Cuban. I feel the earthiness and cinnamon are now in the forefront with some great spice on the tip of the tongue. Near the end of this third the cedar comes back with a little spruce. This third again lasts 30min.

Final Third - As stated this is full strength. The burn and smoke output are still dead on. The cedar is back in the forefront at the start with spruce and some earthiness and of course some great spice. I am now getting some pepper on the retro. The stick stays pretty consistent the rest of the way and get rid of it after another 25min.

Summary

I would like to thank Ryan for including me. The stick was right up my alley with flavors and burn. It was 1hr.30min well spent. The stick had a some real nice transitions and complexity to go with it which kept it interesting. This was a blind review and the only thing I smoked which reminds me of it is the Plasencia brand but I know its not but that my guess.
