Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique generously sponsored by our member BewareDaPenguin (Adam). The cigar provided for this round is the Caldwell Cigar Co. Long Live The Queen Ace Of Hearts.

Boutique brand owner Robert Caldwell is releasing a new line of cigars called Long Live the Queen, a regular production line of smokes that he says has been aging for the better part of a year after rolling. The Ace of Hearts is the limited edition version of this cigar, rolled at the Ventura family's El Maestro factory in the Dominican Republic. It's a four-country blend consisting of a reddish-brown Cameroon cover leaf, a Sumatra binder grown in Indonesia and a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers.

This cigar was enjoyed with Buffalo Trace and Ice water

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Pre Light aroma of light barnyard and tobacco. Cannon is very smooth and dry with zero soft spots. No noticeable veins and a very nice looking cigar. Box press is very nice and band is good looking as well.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

Smoke volume a bit light but still good. Ash is a little "loose" but tapping it off every 1/2 to 3/4 inch keeps me from wearing it. Burn is very consistent thru cigar up until about the last 1/4 where is wavered a bit and went out needing a relight.

Construction: 29 Points of 30 Possible

Nice box press and construction is very good, wrapper is virtually seamless and cap is well applied. Draw is excellent with just the right amount of resistance for my liking. Hard time finding much wrong in the construction, a very well made cigar.

Flavor and Aroma: 40 Points of 45 Possible

1/2; Strength is medium to medium plus with the first thing hitting me being spice with a bit of leather and earth. Retrohale is very earthy with added spice.
2/2; I can taste the spice kicking up a notch and am getting a slight burn in my throat. Leather is becoming a bit more prominent, as I get to the last 1/4 I taste a bit of a metallic taste coming in.

Summary

Not going to lie but I am not a regular smoker/fan of Caldwell but this one was better than most I have had. Thanks much for including me as I did find this pretty enjoyable. Looking forward to the rest of the reviews as well.
