Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique generously sponsored by our member ntanner (Neal).  The cigar provided for this round is the Diesel Fool's Errand Stubborn Fool Perfecto.

The Fool's Errand Stubborn Fool may appear to be fun and games, but this full-bodied joker ain't nothing to laugh about! This limited-edition, medium-full bodied perfecto is the first installment of the Fool's Errand, which is a collaboration between Justin Andrews of Scandinavian Tobacco Group and master cigar crafter AJ Fernandez. The cigars are handmade at the Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars factory in Nicaragua. It offers excellent construction and comes only in the perfecto size which has nipple at the foot. On the inside, this cigar has a combination of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers, bound with Honduran leaf and then finished off in a dark oily Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, this premium handmade is ready to entertain your taste buds.

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Nice looking stick just love the shape. It has a dry feel with a couple veins the wrapper that put a bump in it. Its a firmly packed stick with no soft spots. It cuts with no problems and the draw is just a little loose but it causes no issue. I get a nice sweet tobacco smell off the foot which always appeals to me.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

This smoke burns almost perfect. The smoke output is great and the burn is pretty close to dead on. The ash holds on for better than an inch and is salt and pepper in color. I feel the burn is average not to fast or slow and requires no relights.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The wrapper is a real nice light brown with no soft spots, the bands also add to the appearance. The wrapper is smooth except for a couple veins with pretty well invisible seams. The draw is a little loose to my liking but at no time does it create any issues. The only issue really I had was when I removed the first band a piece of the wrapper game with it but again this caused no issue. All in all it is a well constructed stick.

Flavor and Aroma: 37 Points of 45 Possible

Now the fun part. I will say that at the time I smoked this I was just getting over a pretty good cold so my taste buds weren't working as good as they should.

First third -The stick fires up nicely and right from the get go the smoke output is great. At the start I get a lot of spice and pepper on the retro but about halfway through this third it disappears. This is replaced with what I call sweet tobacco. The other flavors I get in this third meaty charcoal and a mocha flavor in my books all good. The finish is short but it is smooth and this third lasts about 25min.

Second third - The start of the second third starts off very consistent with the first third. There is no spice or pepper on the retro, and I do miss this I get a little sweet tobacco with some barnyard. The draw and burn are still good with still a great smoke output. The finish is still short but it is still smooth. I don't find a lot of transitions in this stick with the main flavors sweet tobacco, meaty but I do get some herbal at the end of this third. Lasts about 20min.

Final third - The flavors remain constant on the retro and smoke as it has through the entire stick. Draw ,smoke out never waivered at anytime. It stays smooth and never got hot at anytime. I put it out with about an inch left in the stick.

Summary

Like to thank Neal for the chance to smoke this stick. In truth I've smoked hardly any sticks of this brand so it was a new experience. I certainly didn't mind the stick. In fact, it was enjoyable but just not in my wheelhouse. Total smoke time was 1hr. Again as stated my taste buds were not at their best which is to bad. The stick stays nice and smooth without ever getting hot or soft. The smoke output stayed great and the burn stayed spot on. Would I smoke another? Sure would, but probably wouldn't buy any as I do miss a little spice and pepper. All and all not a bad stick.
