Stolen Throne cigars debuted in 2019 to great fanfare of cigar enthusiasts. The Yorktown Fleet is now their fourth regular production cigar, and was introduced during the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show. Like the other Stolen Throne cigars, the Yorktown Fleet is made at the Rojas Cigar Factory in EstelĂ, Nicaragua. The name was chosen after Stolen Throne recently opened a new headquarters in Yorktown, Va. According to their website: "The Yorktown Fleet, a cigar built from history and adventure. Carefully hand-rolled to transport you back to a time when smoking was rebellious and a true embodiment of cool."
A dry dark chocolate mottled wrapper, with a firm box press. Smooth with tight seams, this id a well rolled cigar. Pre-light aroma is a mild coffee and barnyard scent, with a bit of gingerbread sweetness. Very mild pre-light aroma.
Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible
No relights or touch-ups required on this cigar. Nice consistent burn, with a firm ash. Ash was dark, but did not flake or crumble. Not too much smoke volume with this one, it definitely was a bit more airy than I'd have preferred.
Construction: 20 Points of 30 Possible
Made a clean and shallow guillotine cut, but still had to deal with a bit of the wrapper unraveling. The draw was a bit loose even though I chopped high enough that I'd usually need more. I believe this loose filling contributed to some flavor issues due to burning hot.
Flavor and Aroma: 25 Points of 45 Possible
A mild to medium cigar, with very little spice. The Yorktown Fleet started off with a nice, sweet, barnyard tobacco profile. Very little earth/pepper, and just a hint of coffee.
Unfortunately, the profile ended up getting a bit bitter and tart, covering up much of the nuance for the second half of this cigar.
Summary
I can see this being a great addition to the Stolen Throne profile, something smooth and sweet, with a medium profile and little spice. I think the open draw on my example held back this profile from shining through, but I can tell it had a nice base to work from after the start.
