Welcome to a Geek Critique of a cigar generously provided to us by member MichaelCampbellCasdagli of Casdagli Cigars.  The cigar provided for this round is the Casdagli Cigars Cypher 3311 Line "Enigma".  The name of this unique line of cigars "Cypher 3311" refers to the secret war conducted during WWII. "3311" was Jeremy Casdagli's grandfather's POW number & the "Coat of Arms" used on the band replicates one of his grandfather's wartime embroideries. The blends chosen as well as the imagery on the packaging contain hidden messages that can be discovered by the smoker. The exotic tobaccos of the Cypher 3311 vitolas are rare and expensive thus creating a truly unique blend that requires aging once the cigar is made. There will only be a maximum of 4,000 of each of the 4 cigars made annually. A percentage of every cigar sale will be donated to the Red Cross whose relentless work continues to alleviate human suffering across the world. The Cypher 3311 Line cigars are blended especially for Casdagli Cigars at IGM Cigars boutique factory in Costa Rica.

This cigar was enjoyed with Coffee

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Cigar presents well filling up the coffin it comes in completely. The wrapper is a good looking one, only a couple minor vein lines with a natural color and a great toothy feel. It has a dry appearance but I get the impression it has plenty of flavors.

The cap is well done with almost invisible seems and took a punch cut well. The cannon feels solid from cap to foot and overall the cigar seems well built.

Lighting and Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar took a even toast easily and burned slow and straight from start to finish without requiring any corrections by me. The ash was a light grey and solid but it did have a few unruly flakes that popped out here and there.

The burn was slow clocking in at around an hour and forty minutes for me. Nice smoke production from this one giving out nice plumes with each pull .  Overall a satisfying experience with the burn.

Construction: 29 Points of 30 Possible

I really like the look of the wrapper on this cigar. It looks dry but it's really clean looking with only a couple minor vein lines and nearly invisible seems. The cap is well applied with nearly invisible seems and it takes a punch cut very well revealing a good draw with just the right amount of resistance. Overall a well made cigar.

Flavor and Aroma: 41 Points of 45 Possible

The start is slightly creamy with bakers chocolate and toasted malt along with some wood notes and a decent dose of spice in the retro.

The second third has the wood gaining strength and the chocolate has morphed into a walnut with the toasted malt providing a sweet finish. Strength is working it's way to the top end of medium and the profile is smooth and earthy.

The last third has a coffee join the mix along with wood and a more almond like flavor. I occasionally pick up a nice tobacco note but it's fleeting and doesn't hang in to the finish. The flavors play off each other well and the finish is a satisfying one.

Summary

Thanks to Casdagli cigars for sponsoring this critique and for giving me the opportunity to try this cigar. This is a large cigar, almost intimidating when you hold it in your hand but after you get by it's size it is a really enjoyable smoke albeit a lengthy one. Took me a hour and forty minutes to burn this one but it was a enjoyable 100 minutes and I would do it again.
