Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Nice dark wrapper with a slight oily sheen, relatively smooth, one or two small vein lines. Cigar is solid except for one slightly spongy spot about an inch up from the foot. The cap is well applied and took a punch without issue.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The burn was a little funky in the beginning but once I cleared that spongy spot it straightened out and burned fairly well, still a little wavy but not bad.

The ash was a little flaky at first but when I got about a third of the way in it solidified well and even though it was flaky at first it still held to about a inch and a half and is light gray.

The burn was a little faster than I expected but stayed cool. I just couldn't let it sit to long or it would try and shut down on me. Never did go out but it wanted to.

Smoke production was decent, better after getting past the soft spot.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The cap is well applied and it's seem is almost invisible. I used a punch to open this one up and it took it well. The draw is good and I get a nice tobacco flavor pre-light.

The wrapper is a good looking leaf almost free from vein lines and with a slight sheen and the feel of parchment paper when I run my finger over it.

Flavor and Aroma: 38 Points of 45 Possible

Initial flavors of sweet tobacco and wood. Decent spice in the retro. The sweet tobacco morphs to a sort of salty sweet taste and the wood takes on a nutty character about 3/4 of a inch into the cigar. Complex start but balanced. Very enjoyable.

The second third opens with a leather note and some roasted barley and a little more spice in the retro and a hint of nutmeg in the background.

The last third is earthier with a chard wood flavor and I'm getting a little tingle on the tongue and lips from the spice. Still a nice sweet finish and leather in the aftertaste.

Summary

Not sure what I smoked but I liked it. The profile was complex enough to keep your attention and had a good balance. Figure it hit full strength going into the last third but it may have been I didn't realize how strong it was because of how well balanced it was. Shout out to Brian for including me in this one.
