Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique generously sponsored by our member Byron (Beegerply).  The cigar provided for this round is the Tatuaje Monster Series The Face Redux.

Tatuaje's The Face became recognizable for using a jaggedly cut piece of Ecuadorian Connecticut tobacco to serve as the band, a nod to the movie monster Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, who was known for wearing a mask made of a person's skin. Like its Monster Series predecessors, The Frank and The Drac, it came in boxes designed to look like coffins, complete with red paint splattered on them to mimic the look of blood. Tatuaje produced 5,000 boxes of 13 The Face Redux 3 — a total of 65,000 cigars — of those 5,000 boxes, 700 are individually numbered, while the other 4,300 are not.

This cigar was enjoyed with water

Pre-Light: 10 Points of 10 Possible

This is a large cigar, not a 6x60 but close enough. It has a nice deep brown wrapper. Fills firm but has somewhat of softness to the squeeze. It appears to be well bunched looking at the foot. Not much aroma along the barrel, however there is a slightly hay / grassy aroma at the foot. The wrapper was smooth to the touch.

Lighting and Burn: 15 Points of 15 Possible

The burn on this cigar was pretty even during the smoking of the cigar. There was a small touch up after the ash fell, but not much. It produced a nice volume of smoke though out the smoking time. The ash was solid and held to about 1/2 inch sections before dropping off.

Construction: 30 Points of 30 Possible

This cigar lit up nicely and the draw was very nice, for me just the right amount of draw. The wrapper was smooth, with very little veining. The cap looked well applied, and did not crack when cutting. This cigar looked to be well made.

Flavor and Aroma: 38 Points of 45 Possible

On the opening draw this cigar started out with a nice, rich earthy flavor, a bit of the grassy/hay that I smelled on the pre draw, and some pepper. During the smoke going into the second third, the pepper stay as well as the earthiness. The cigar seemed to burn at a moderate pace. During the smoking of this cigar there wasn't much transition between flavors, but it was still nice. At the end the cigar got mushy and soft causing a tangy taste, which I didn't care for so I ended it.

Summary

Overall this cigar was enjoyable, except for the end when it got soft and mushy. I would like to note that I smoked a second cigar at my lounge and it was pretty much same. Do to it's size I would not smoke it on a regular bases, but I would smoke it again. I would like to my friend Adam for  letting me have a chance to smoke this cigar.
