Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique generously sponsored by our member ninfiction (Brian).  The cigar provided for this round is the Crowned Heads Blood Medicine Limited Edition 2024.

'Blood Medicine' takes its name from a three-story building located on the corner of Broadway and 4th Avenue in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. That building was originally built as a three-floor pharmacy in 1872 before being converted into a hotel in 1892. While many legendary tales exist about the historic building, including legends of Civil War ghosts that still wander the halls, evidence of the original pharmacy still exists. On the walls, the painted words "Blood Medicine" still remain visible. Blood Medicine pays homage to the history of Crowned Heads' home city of Nashville with a unique smoking experience. The 2024 release of Blood Medicine is made at Eradio Pichardo's TacaNicsa factory (who also produced the 2022 version).

This cigar was enjoyed with High West Double Rye

Pre-Light: 6 Points of 10 Possible

This cigar had a mid brown wrapper with minimal veins.  The cap on mine was poorly applied, and even with a careful cut, the cap fell off completely and some of the fragile wrapper began to unravel. Not a good start.

Prelight aroma was sweet and floral. Prelight draw brought memory of a barnyard.  The band is designed to look like a street barker sign from the late 1800's.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar held a wobbly line but did not require any touchups.  Ash was light gray and fell off about every 3/4 inches. Smoke was billowy. The cigar burned a bit fast and hot. It also tunneled a little (which might be why it burned hot.)

Construction: 17 Points of 30 Possible

This cigar was solidly rolled with no soft spots.  Seemed light on weight
As already mentioned, the cap on mine was poorly applied, and even with a careful cut, the cap fell off completely and some of the fragile wrapper began to unravel. I patched it up as best I could, but some of the wrapper flaked off in the process.

Flavor and Aroma: 28 Points of 45 Possible

This was pretty much a one note cigar for me.  It opened with some blasts of black pepper with a grassy background.  The flavor was dry, not sweet. Retrohales were harsh. For the first half of the cigar, nothing much changed.

By the second half, some metallic notes joined the pepper and grassiness. Other than that, this was a one trick pony. Medium full in body and strength. I put it down with about a third left to go.

Summary

Thanks to Brian for including me on this one.  I'm always interested in trying new cigars. Sometimes you find a new Gem! Unfortunately, I think that I got the dud of the box. But I did appreciate the opportunity to try it!
