Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique generously sponsored by our member bstessl (Brian).  This was done as a blind review so there were no pre-conceived notions about what anyone was smoking.  The cigar provided for this round is the Stoic Cigars Stoic Moderation.

A new premium cigar line inspired by ancient philosophy, Stoic Cigars, founded by Vance Taylor, draws inspiration from the tenets of stoicism. These cigars offer cigar enthusiasts a sophisticated smoking experience "that blends exceptional taste with mindful reflection."

"Stoic Cigars is more than just a premium product; it's a symbol of self-improvement and personal empowerment," Taylor comments. "By integrating the principles of mindfulness and self-reflection with craftsmanship and culture of premium, hand-rolled cigars, we're creating an experience that resonates with both the palate and the spirit."

This cigar was enjoyed with water

Pre-Light: 10 Points of 10 Possible

Pre-light, the cigar had that great pungent type of smell that is characteristic of Cuban cigars to me. The wrapper was a little oily, with no big veins or anything on it. Pre-light draw gave hints of pepper and leather.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar burn was a little wanky, as it had a stem in the middle of the cigar that burned at a slower rate, so it always had a cone shape on the ash. The ash was a dark grey, and I had no issues with having to re-light or anything. Smoke volume was average.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The cigar construction was good, other than having a stem in the center of the cigar. Draw was just right, not overly tight, not too loose. The cap was well attached. The wrapper was nice and a little oily.

Flavor and Aroma: 30 Points of 45 Possible

First 1/3- a little spice on the intro, and then it mellowed a little bit, but still lingered. I picked up some caramel, and some leather as well.

Second 1/3- It started with a little spice that still lingered from the first 1/3, but quickly mellowed off. I started getting hints of caramel, clove, and vanilla as well as tobacco flavors.

Last 1/3- I started getting tongue burn on this 1/3, and there was an off putting flavor of mildewy grass, ash flavor, hay, and it got really funky. I ended up putting the cigar out a little after that hit. Not sure if I got to the bottom of the stem and there was something else there or what.

If I'd have smoked the first 2/3 of the stick, it would have been GREAT, but there was that last 1/3 that threw a wrench in things. I gave it points for the first 2 1/3's, but not the last!

Summary

I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of this cigar, but then the last 1/3 hit and it was all downhill from there. I'd smoke another one to see if it was just something about that cigar.

Thanks for letting me do the blind review Brian!
