"Sin Compromiso" is Spanish for "Without Compromise". Crafted by the legendary Steve Saka, Sin Compromiso represents the pinnacle of his boutique venture, Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust. Praised by cigar aficionados and blogs alike, this masterpiece features a flawless Mexican San Andres wrapper, an Ecuadorian binder, and rich Nicaraguan long-fillers. "When creating and blending Sin Compromiso I was never satisfied with the robusto vitola," said Saka, in a post on his Facebook page when the cigar was announced. "It always seemed a little off so when we launched the brand in 2019 I decided to just not include arguably the most popular format. (This is) a 5.00 x 54 prensado robusto whose blend is now perfectly tailored for its format and to suit its namesake."
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Sin Compromiso Seleccion No. 4
This cigar was enjoyed with French Press Blonde Roast Coffee
Pre-Light: 8 Points of 10 Possible
Toothy and Box Pressed. Smooth with a slight ruffle near cap. Pre light aroma of barn and deep rich earth. Hefty in the hand and firmly packed. Classic band subtly done with cedar sleeve. Dark brown with a sheen. Overall a very well presented cigar.
Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible
Used V cut as I prefer that with shaped and box pressed sticks. Cold draw produced a rich earthy note and a slight tingly feeling on the tongue. Combustion produced a thick and chewy aromatic smoke. Leather and black pepper open up the experience with that deep earthy baseline. The ash was stone grey and solid. Combustion was steady and burn line consistent. One relight needed at end of first third.
Construction: 26 Points of 30 Possible
The Sin Compromiso is a beautifully constructed cigar. Wrapper was seamless and cap had just a slight blemish. Draw was near perfect with a slight resistance that was perfect for controlled puffs. Ash was firm and stayed intact only dropping when I forced by tapping cigar. Foot had slight ding that did not effect experience at all.
Flavor and Aroma: 39 Points of 45 Possible
This box pressed cigar had notes of nuts, deep earth, dark deep coffee from the San Andres wrapper and leather throughout. I didn't find too many transitions, but that is fine when the blend melds perfectly. Aroma was very deep and musty, but pleasant. Body was medium and slowly progressing to medium to full by end. Spice on retro was stingy towards the end.
Summary
The Sin Compromiso Selection No 4 is a very good cigar experience. Quality construction, presentation and smoking experience. This is a box worthy purchase from Dunbarton Tobacco. I want to thank Beegerply for generously sponsoring this and including me. This cigar is one I have never tried before although wanting to do so for a long while. Steve Saka produces a portfolio of wonderful cigars and this one is a perfect example of that.
