This cigar was enjoyed with Cold Corona Tall Neck (2)

Pre-Light: 17 Points of 10 Possible

Not the smoothest wrapper, but with a enough veins to give the cigar some character.  The roll seemed tight and the construction overall was very good.  Pinching the cigar I found no soft spots.  Color was pretty consistant, a few spots.  It seemed to be a very well constructed cigar.  Pre-light I got a bit of cedar/wood, leather and maybe a light coffee aroma.  By this point I was primed for a great smoking experience.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

A stick this size I prefer to cut rather than punch.  It cut easily and after toasting the head, it stayed lit throughout the smoke.  No touchups needed.  It burned evenly and held its ash well.  A white ash with a few dark spots.  Smoke volume was very good and what I expected from this solid cigar.

Construction: 26 Points of 30 Possible

Not the prettiest cigar on the block, but not nearly as ugly as many I've had in the past.  As I said, slight veins on the wrapper and color a little uneven.  However, overall the construction on this large double corona was more than average.  A tight wrap, solid cap and very slight tightness on the draw in the beginning, which loosened up as the cigar burned.

Flavor and Aroma: 31 Points of 45 Possible

1st Third: As I expected from the prelight, those intial tastes of cedar/wood and a bit of leather and coffee seem to pronounce itself.

2nd Third: I've now finished the 1st bottle of Corona and have grabbed a second.  The beer cleanses the pallet as the flavors continue.  The cedar/wood and coffee pickup a little and the leather seems to dissipate at this point. Trying hard to stay slow and even and not heat up this stick too fast.

Final Third: The flavors have stayed consistant near the end.  No pronouced increase, just a nice steady stream of the cedar/wood and leather.  The coffee is just slight at this point.

Summary

Overall: I enjoyed this cigar.  The medium strength was just enough to not overpower the pallet.  Especially with as much time as you need to invest in smoking this cigar.  The group who sent this also gifted me with a corona.  I'm looking forward to smoking that as my impression might be different on a stick I won't have to spend a lot of time on.  I think on the Cigar Geek scale, I would be rating this one at a solid 4.0.  Thanks to Wesley Gensel at GVG International, LLC for sending these sticks our way.
