"A fine cigar is like a fine woman. They come in all shapes and sizes. Treat them tenderly and lovingly. Caress their skin, admire their beauty, fondle them with reverence. Bring them slowly to your lips, enjoy their flavor, their aroma. Contemplate their essence, their dependability, and forgive them their weaknesses - if there be any. Revel in the rituals, their simplicity and their enduring meanings. Do these things, my son, and the blessings of life shall always be upon you." -Prince Sined Yar Maharg

Pre-Light: 16 Points of 10 Possible

I received this Mi Barrio El Forro from NES Tek and akira, and let it rest in my cabinet for 8 days prior to smoking. The cigar has a very smooth brown wrapper devoid of large veins, with no perceptible tooth, and was very firm to my pinch test. The wrapper does have a slightly reddish hue to it; it's a good looking wrapper. The cigar had a tight (but not plugged) pre-light draw. It's a good looking cigar.

Lighting and Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar lit easily, and was smooth from the start. The burn line stayed straight, peak to trough never exceeded 1/8"; no runners or canoes. It produced a white-gray ash that was firm, and would hold for ¾"-1.0" before ashing. Smoke volume was average, definitely not thick or chewy.

Construction: 24 Points of 30 Possible

The draw did loosen some once the cigar was up to temp; it had a slightly firm draw throughout its length. The burn quality was very good, it did not run, nor were any re-lights required. No splits, tears, peels occured in the wrapper, and the cap stayed in place; solid construction. The draw was too tight for my preference.

Flavor and Aroma: 28 Points of 45 Possible

Throughout this cigar, it had a smooth, balanced flavor profile. I never detected much flavor complexity, and it only caught a bad taste once, just at the start of the last third (it straightened out quickly).  I classify this cigars strength as no more than medium. It had a smoooooooth finish; no burn on the tongue, no tarry aftertaste.

Summary

This was my first Mi Barrio, and I enjoyed it. I am a fan of DPG's sticks, he consistently makes a tasty cigar. I took points off for the firm draw and the lack of flavor complexity. Nick, Mike, thank you for including me in this months Geek Critique.
