"Happiness? A good cigar, a good meal, a good cigar and a good woman - or a bad woman; it depends on how much happiness you can handle." - George Burns
Welcome to another Cigar Geeks Critique of a vitola provided to us by our friends at BestCigarPrices.com. Up for review this time is the Prodigy by Rocky Patel in the Torpedo vitola. A special thanks goes out to Bryan (metalhead y cigarguy) for setting this one up.
Not too firm or soft, the wrapper was slightly oily. It was little veiny but not bad. There was a generous cap for cutting. The prelight aroma was great, nice and earthy. The prelight draw was smooth.
Lighting and Burn: 11 Points of 15 Possible
The cigar burned slightly crooked but corrected itself halfway through. The ash was a little soft, breaking off about 1/2 an inch when I bumped the cigar by accident. A nice blue/white colored smoke came off the head.
Construction: 29 Points of 30 Possible
This maduro was constructed very well, with no cracks or splits, was nicely wrapped and had a slight oily sheen. The wrapper was firm but not too hard, the draw was smooth, a little tight at first but loosened up by the second half.
Flavor and Aroma: 30 Points of 45 Possible
This cigar was on the medium-full side. The flavors were earthy with a coffee after taste that stayed consistant the entire smoke. Nice and smooth, never getting harsh. The first taste was spicy but went away quickly then about halfway through there was a little burst of spice, but again it went away.
Summary
This cigar took over 60 minutes to smoke.
You can't judge a book by it's cover so don't judge a cigar by it's ash. This is the first Rocky Patel that I have smoked that is memorable. It looked good, smelled good and tasted just as good. It had a great draw and a smooth burn that NEVER got harsh. I would smoke this cigar again and will consider this when it's time to buy a box.
