This cigar was enjoyed with Brugal Gran Reserva Familiar Rum and Coke

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 10 Possible

Very nice dark brown wrapper on this stick, it's tightly rolled, not very oily at all. The band and ring are attractive blue red and gold. The pre light gives off a smell of barnyard and hay, the pre-light draw gives off more of a taste of hay than anything else.

Lighting and Burn: 9 Points of 15 Possible

This cigar gives off a ton of smoke. I punched it after the light and was surprised at how easy it was to pull in as much smoke as I was taking in off each draw.

There was a slight canoeing issue that fixed itself as the cigar ran down. Lasted only during the first 1/4 of the cigar, and before it reached the 1/3 mark though it had self corrected.

I did meet a VERY small unwrapping issue at the half way point. After I knocked off the ash is when I really noticed it, very small, and after the ash passed over the tear I had no further problems.

The ash is a gorgeous white/light grey and  held on strong for at least 2 inches before I knocked it off myself. It could have easily held on longer, but for a matter of personal preference I got rid of it.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

This is a very solid looking cigar, with no soft spots anywhere in the stick that I could feel. This stick is very smooth looking, with very few veins visible on the wrapper. Nice tight roll to it and when I punched the cap I got no loose tobacco or splitting. The draw is smooth and easy to pull.

Flavor and Aroma: 30 Points of 45 Possible

The first 1/3 The cigar starts off strong with a spicyness to the smoke that I cannot explain with anything other than that. It's spicy.

After your first few draws though, you really start to develop a sweeter nutty flavour, almonds specifically with a only a hint of spice. If you really like the spiciness in a cigar, while smoking the Maxum I strongly suggest you frequently retrohale, as this is where I was truly finding my fill of the spiciness found in this cigar.

The flavour never developed past the nutty/spicy taste, which is ok if you're enjoying this cigar with a nice drink.

Summary

The cigar actually maintains the same flavours throughout. Which from reading their website, and about this cigar specifically, was the main focus of their design. I enjoyed it, but my only complaint was some sort of development in the smoke would have been nice. It's a big cigar, took almost an hour and a half to smoke, so some variety would have been a pleasant and warm welcome. I'd suggest enjoying this smoke with a nice scotch.
