". . . for the man, or woman, who works in tobacco, a cigar is a gift in the form of a skillfully created roll of the plant he has struggled to cultivate and produce." -Roger Ralphs
The wrapper appeared to be very well constructed with small veins. The wrap looked nice and tight and the smell was of very rich tobacco and mocha. The band was very classy looking. The cap come apart slightly on the clip but not enough to cause any real problem.
The prelight draw didnt yield any real hints as to the flavors to follow. The taste was very mild.
Lighting and Burn: 11 Points of 15 Possible
This cigar took to the flame like a fish to water, it lit very easily with only maybe 6 or 7 puffs required to get the show started. The burn had a wavy edge to it throughout, some what like the shape of a corrugated tin roof. The ash was a attractive silvery-white that held for an inch before I flicked it. The remaining ash was pointed and held that shape throughout.
This cigar was very generous on the amount of smoke it yielded, as giving as a happy divorcee on the town for the first time. That didn't change at any time during the smoke. It was trying hard to please me!
Construction: 20 Points of 30 Possible
The cap split didn't cause me any problems at all, it mended very well. As I mentioned earlier, the burn was very wavy but at an even pace all the way around.
I had a separation of the wrapper towards the last 3rd of the cigar that required numerous mendings. It wasn't drastic and I dealt with it without being annoyed as I have with other cigars.
Flavor and Aroma: 18 Points of 45 Possible
The initial flavors I noted were woody and nutty with a slight bitter edge. There was also a mild tangy note with hints of vanilla.
Towards the middle the nutty taste turned very sweet and reminded me of amaretto. It was a very mild cigar much to my surprise, I thought it would be a bolder cigar. The bitterness had subsided a bit as well.
Towards the last third the bitterness had returned in a big way with the sweet notes turning very toasty. I didn't really care much for the finish as the bitterness grew with each puff.
Summary
This cigar is a radical departure from the cigars that usually dwell in my humidors. The natural wrapper isnt at all like the Montes, CAO's or Romeo's that I usually stock in the lighter shades. It tried really hard to please me but in the end it really wasnt my cup of tea. I would smoke one every now and then for a change of pace. It really is its own cigar that didnt remind me of others and stood on its own. Its a unique experience, thats for sure. Thank you Paul!
