This cigar was enjoyed with Sam's Club Caffeine-Free Diet Cola
Pre-Light: 15 Points of 10 Possible
Attractive appearance. Flawless wrapper. Effortless cutting. Somewhat spongy, suggesting either freshness or looseness. Aroma, while not unpleasant, has no charm, no hint of fine aging and curing in the smell, no hint of a great smoke to come.
Lighting and Burn: 11 Points of 15 Possible
Lit well. Burn rate faster than expected, clearly due to somewhat loose packing. Ash unimpressive. Lots of smoke. Stays lit throughout, but requires repair and boost with flame towards the end. Burn was even, although not perfectly so, until almost the end.
Construction: 24 Points of 30 Possible
Overall good construction, except for the leaves not packed tight enough to slow down the burn a bit. The looseness was not pathological by any means, just sub-par. Construction contributed to overall even burn. Head could have been reinforced better, but it held up.
Flavor and Aroma: 25 Points of 45 Possible
The flavor was the weakest link. It was heavily toasty, "smoked", gratefully without any burnt toast taste. That flavor remained constant and did not contain any other notes or complexity, hence it was monotonous. Labeled mild-to-medium, I rate it medium-to-full.
Summary
Total 75 points. This cigar might be just right for another herfer, but it's not my cup of tea. I would never buy it. I will only smoke other sizes to review them, and only because I am getting them free. Let's hope they are better.
