Pre-Light: 15 Points of 10 Possible

Tastes of well aged tobacco. The wrapper is a nice medium brown habano, with just a hint of oil showing. There is one prominent vein showing but otherwise is very smooth. The cap holds up well to my punch, leaving a nice clean, cold draw.

Lighting and Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

I toast the foot and it takes to flame like a fish to water. The thin black burn ring is razor sharp throughout, the burn is true and perfect. It holds the first ash for over an inch despite the fact that I am smoking it outside with a decent breeze blowing. The ash is a light grey, with small specks of dark grey, and firm, when it does finally give way it leaves a nice cone. It gives off a whispy white smoke as first, but after a half an inch it gives off clouds of blue-grey smoke that hangs in the breeze.  It burns cool and slow with this robusto taking me just over an hour to finish.

Construction: 25 Points of 30 Possible

The wrapper is just gorgeous, with a medium brown color, and just one vein running from the foot to the halfway point. The cap is very well applied and easily held up to being punched. I found no hard or soft spots and it is packed well, which as I smoke into the first half inch, opens up a bit more and breathes on it's own.

Flavor and Aroma: 25 Points of 45 Possible

The flavor of the cold draw is only of well aged tobacco.
In the first third flavors of leather and just a hint of cocoa, are noticeable under the main current of  well fermented tobacco.
Into the second third the flavors progress and get stronger but other than a bit of licorice for a few minutes, the flavor profile stays the same.
Into the final third, the leather gets a bit stronger and I do get just a bit of spice, but otherwise it stays the course it has run for the last hour.
The finish is smooth and tasty with a pleasant aftertaste.

Summary

All in all I enjoyed this cigar. It was my first Alacranes, so I didn't know what to expect from it. It was more of a mild-medium, and I tend to prefer more medium to full bodied cigars generally but this was flavorful and smooth.
I would definately consider picking up some of these to have in stock in my humidor. I can't help to wonder what a year or so of aging would do to bring out more of the subtle nuances found in this fine cigar.
