Pre-Light: 17 Points of 10 Possible

When I got this cigar I noticed it was a bit bumpy and had black spots, the color of the wrapper was a beautiful shade of dark brown.  The wrapper was oily, the cigar was firm through out with no soft spots. The aroma had a sweet smell of tobacco with a hint of cocoa it was a big stand out. I used a duel blade guillotine, boy it cut like a hot knife though butter it doesn't get any better then that.

Lighting and Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

I used Cedar spills when I was toasting, I got sweet woodlike aroma from the toasting. I got dark grey ash with patches of near black ash, the ash was a bit weak.  I only got about an inch before it fell.  I was hoping for a bit more. This Cigar had a nice slow burn to it, but I did get some uneven burning for the 1st half but it did correct itself as it went on.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The construction of this cigar was pretty good, it had a nice firm feel with a little give, it felt solid.  The box press also added to the looks of the cigar giving a uniform look. One of the problems I had with this cigar were the bumps and the black spots.  They were a turn off.  I'm not sure if it was the fault of the roller, tobacco leaf, or the Box Press.  This was a bit of a downer, but the aroma of the head and really through out the cigar made up for the bumps and spots. The draw was nice and smooth with tons of cool smoke.

Flavor and Aroma: 35 Points of 45 Possible

This was a medium bodied smoke, with tons and tons of flavor. Flavors like leather, black pepper, and coffee. When puffing you got a lot of creamy smooth smoke, then it bit you with the tingling of the tongue and throat.

For the 1st 1/4 I got tons of creamy smoke with leather notes with a tingle on my tongue like black pepper the black pepper was also in the aftertaste. I noticed the uneven burning I didn't want to correct it, so I wait to see if it corrected itself.  That's when I noticed the weak dark grey ash. The smoke had a sweet woody quality.

The 2nd 1/4, the leather taste was still there with some light notes of coffee, and pepper aftertaste. The burn issues begain to correct itself and the ash fell. this is when the cigar got really complex with the flavor changes.

For the 3rd 1/4 I got a earthy notes with leather, the coffee notes went away and the tingle on my tongue was now in the back of my throat witch I did enjoy it made you feel like you were smoking a good cigar.

The last part (nub) I felt was the best part.  I got an explosion of flavor like cedar, leather, black pepper, with no bitterness at all.

Summary

The Padron 1964 Exclusivo Maduro is one fine cigar. If I can sum up the flavors in one word it would be WOW! This is one of those smokes you want to smoke with a good friend, Father, son, or just great company.
