This cigar was enjoyed with Sparkling water

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 10 Possible

A firm cigar with a beautiful dark Maduro wrapper that showed small veins just under the surface. It has a very nice heft to it and the wrapper exuded a delicate scent of earthy tobacco and the quintessential coffee and chocolaty goodness one expects from a quality Maduro. I used my Xikar Xi titanium cigar cutter to open up this cigar. The head of the cigar is very well constructed and opened up beautifully.

Lighting and Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

This cigar took to the flame like a dog to water. I like to toast the foot till I get a bright cherry red glow, and then gently draw through the cigar to initiate an even burn. The ash held firm throughout the entire smoking process and I only ashed this beauty three times. Each time it left a nice centered cone. The ash was fairly tight and the burn was symmetrical. No relights and no corrections were needed.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

IMHO, the draw on this cigar is hands down, one of the best. There is just enough restriction to let you enjoy the full essence of the smoke as it rolls over your palette. The draw reminded me of sipping a thick chocolate shake through a large straw. The burn was near perfect and the amount of smoke this cigar generates is phenomenal.

Flavor and Aroma: 32 Points of 45 Possible

I would have to rate this cigar as a medium/full bodied cigar. It exuded all of the flavor and taste one comes to expect from a full bodied Maduro. The first third of this smoke was cocoa, coffee and an earthy tobacco flavor.

As I approached the second third of this cigar there was an earthy, spicy taste that really lingered on the tongue. Not a bite but more of a full blown tobacco taste with just a hint of mocha coupled with a nice nutty complexity. I could actually taste a very delicate, spicy mocha cross my tongue as I exhaled the smoke.

These wonderful flavors carried into the last third of the smoke. As I closed in on the last part of this cigar, the spice and earthy tobacco flavors became more intense. At no time did this cigar bite me back but the spice and tobacco flavors were very evident.

Summary

This is a wonderful cigar. Padron has certainly kept their reputation in tact with this quality smoke. There are enough subtle flavors here to keep even the most sophisticated herfer interested. Although I wouldn't classify this cigar as a complex smoke, it certainly has a multitude of subtle tastes and aromas to qualify as an excellent cigar. There was even one point in the smoking process where I actually put this baby down so I could take a short break (2 minutes, maybe). It gave me all I wanted in the nicotine/tobacco department. In summation; a great cigar, superb construction, quality burn, excellent ash and abundant flavor.
