Poll
Question:
1st "Geek Herf" Right Here Fri. Jan. 20th 9pm Eastern
Option 1: CAO Brazilia
Okay Geeks...let's give it try and see how it goes. All Geeks are invited to join in this thread on Friday January 20th at 9pm Est. for a group herf.
Here are the cigars being polled. They were picked out of a list posted in another thread. The highest voted stick becomes the chosen gar for the herf. Any size vitola will be great. For those who want to attend but are short of the chosen smoke, feel free to come anyway and smoke something else from the polled cigars. NOTE: Please don't vote if you are sure you won't be there...thanks.
I apologize in advance to those of you who cannot smoke because of cold weather issues or laptop issues. If this works out I am sure we will be doing more in the summer.
I will do a drawing at 10pm Est. for those who are present and dole out a 10 cigar sampler to the winner.
Chime in here if you have an idea about your possible attendance just so I sort of know what to expect.
1. In like Flynn
2. No Can Do
3. Maybe Might
A thanks goes out to socialcigarnut (Logan) for bringing the idea to the forums via a live chat herf he coosponsored. Thanks
#1 .....count me in...
Maybe might
Great...see you there.
No can do Pete, weather keeps me in :-(
Maybe might. It depends on if the wife is in a good mood and will let sneak outside for a cigar.
As for the cigars in the list I'm good with any of them except the La Perla Habana, Monte and the Mi Barrio. I have all the others in the list, so if I can get away I'll be able to join in.
Maybe Might
Maybe might and i sure hope so!

C'mon Neil... suck it up! Is freezing temps and maybe a little snow and/or ice going to stop you? You got stocking hat, gloves and a coat right?
You could always make the trip down to my place and I'll let you herf with me in the man cave. :smoker:
Bad timing for me. No can do.
If I can make it I pick CAO Brazilia.
Can't.. wife has a work function I am forced to go to. If I can get out of it I will be here.
Sorry Pete working the afternoon shift now if I could smoke it without setting the fire alarm off in the office I would do it. :lmao:
:-( nope cold weather plus work
Maybe might for me.
BUMP
it's a great concept. i wish i could make it, hopefully for the next one. happy smoking.
Bump
E Herf Huh?
3 - for me. It all depends on how work is going and how much I need to get done for tailgating on Sunday.
Maybe might. Love the idea and want to but may not be able to sneak away until a little later.
I thought I'd already replied (must've been the Patron...). Anyway, I'm in until 10pm or shortly thereafter, unless a gig pops up. As for the cigars, I've got everything but the Monte, so anything else is fine by me.
It all sounds good so far...looking foward to seeing anyone who can make it or who just pop in.
Looks like we have a tie so far between the CAO Brazilia and the Mi Barrio.
'Fraid I can't do it. :-(
Maybe might.
Bump :-)
Sounds like a lot of fun but I work that night. that puts me as a #2 - No can do.
Next time hopefully.
I'll do my best to be there for this one. Sounds like fun!
Great, see you there :-)
Looking forward to seeing any and all at the herf tonight. Thus far it looks like the Brazillia just beat out the tie between the Mi Barrio and the 5 Vegas Series A.
Maybe for tonight you can smoke any of the three...mainly because I smoked the Brazilia in the group herf at the site hosted by socialcigarnut last night. Tonight I will choose either the Mi Barrio or the 5 Vegas Seires A. for those who choose to smoke the Brazillia I will also be able to give comment and feedback since it is still fresh in my brain.
Hope to see you there....Cheers, Pete
Have fun guys. Sorry I will miss it ! My daughter is graduating to Purple Belt tonight, in Karate

So how do we do this?
Is there some kind of hosting software that will be running that we will have to log into?

Not that I'm aware of. I think the plan is just to post as usual...
I'm gonna have to pass, I'm too sick to smoke anything right now..
We are just giving this a try here in the forum to see what kind of response we will get. Paul is looking into some chat software in case this takes off.

Sorry to hear, get well soon.
Okay. I still have snow all over my yard and it is raining/snowing right now. I set up a shelter outside and I am going to give it a go. If I can figure out how to download pictures from my laptop I will do so as we go. Otherwise I will post them later. My laptop does not have spell check so I will apologize in advance for all the misspellings.
Welcome Neil....what will you be smokin tonight?

Brazillia. I was going to go with the Anaconda, but I will be going with a Go, 5 56 if memory serves me right.
I love the aroma of these. Dark chocolate. I clipped the end with my Xicar V cut cutter. Pre draw is good and the flavor is of dark chocolate.
Nice...I smoked the Gol last night in a live chat forum
A few of the guys also got Dark Chocolate....I had more of an earthiness going on with a nice medium body
Okay. I am lit. The tent is giving me sufficient ventilation. If I stop responding assume I sent the liner on fire. :-)

I would agree with the earthiness, and now that it is going I am getting more of that than the chocolate. I m about 1/2" in and one side was not burning so I touched that up.
I found it to be no more than medium bodied in the first half of the smoke...a solid smoke, very consistent blend for me.

Bryan made the comment about "don't you have coat when I said it would be cold. I thought about that and thought I do, but not one I want to smell like smoke. So today I went to Goodwill and bought a coat $12.50 and a heavy sweater $5. I then went to Target and bought a shelter that looks like a half tent for $30 on sale and a tarp to put under it for $10. Add about $5 for the cigar and for $62.50 here I am enjoying a cigar with you fine folks.
Now thats dedication Neil...unfortunately, so far, its just you and me. I thought there would be more of us.
Well, I think I'm going for the 5 Vegas serie A...I also have a Mi Barrio in hand and was waiting for another herfer before I decided, but Its 9:20 now and I feel like smokin.

I consider it more of a medium to full. Maybe I haven't had enough true fulls. It reminds me of a lighter Tatuaje Black.

How much age you got on yours? Mine was pushing two years. What are drinking tonight?
Crap! I got caught up in other shyte and lost track of the time! Next time, maybe?

I thought there would be more too. We had a lot of responses. Nice to finally share a cigar with you Pete.
So you are going with the Series 'A'. One of my favorites. I have smoked more of those than any other cigar. What vitola are you going with?
What are you drinking tonight?
I'm just lighting up now Dave...hang in for a smoke
I like the cold draw of the 5 Vegas serie A...almost like mince meat pie (the fruity raisen kind)

At least a year. I'll have to look that up later. I am having lime water.
Yeah, good to share a smoke with you too.
I'm drinking spiced rum tonight.
I'm smokin the Atomic (4.5 x 54)
I find the Brazillias mellow with age...and sometimes thats good, and other times I prefer them fresher with more kick
Well the rain is really starting to come down and the tent is starting leak. I should have bought 2 tarps and put one on top. I am about 2 inches in. We'll see if I make it.

While smoking a cigar. I can think of worse ways to go. :-)
I'm liking this series A...more flavor for me than the Brazillia last night.
How many Brazillia's do you have in stock?
Well I'm in the second third. It is getting a little bolder. I am getting some dark nutty favors. This cigar does not want to burn straight.

Do you keep track of the age? I'm curious about the time its got on it.
I checked the virtual humidor. 555 days.

That's a fair bit...other than the last inch, I would be surprised if the strength built up too much past medium+ ?
I have a little over 2 inches to go. It's back to tasting like it did 1/2 inch in. It has actually burned straight for 1/2 inch.
I've had to put my gloves on. I don't like when I can't feel the cigar.
Congrats Neil...I placed all the names of the participants tonight into a hat and drew yours as the winner  what were the odds eh? 1 in 1...now thats a sure thing if i ever heard of one.
Keep your eye out for something good...better yet, if I could have a peek at your online humi I could send you stuff you dont have....only if you dont mind me lookin for a few minutes.
Or, you could look at mine and pick a dozen yopu would like to try?? Your choice

:dancing: I had forgot you where doing that. Thank you very much. Thanks for hosting this.
LOL okay Neil....i got to page four and quit, you can kill the access....check mine out and let me know what you want in a PM at your leisure. When your done let me know and I'll close it. Looks like we have about the same amount.
I'm into the last third. The taste is staying consistent. I like the Brazillia. Not the very best cigars, but always enjoyable. I will probably give this one four stars.
Pete, how is the 'A' treating you?
The A is good as always. A little more taste than the Brazillia I think. Its kind of gone soft on me though...like its a little under-filled?
The Gol I smoked last night got a 4 stars from me too. Some of that score went to the consistency of the blend and the solid construction. Lots of thick smoke for sure.
As an aside, does anyone have any suggestions on what product I could use to make this tent a little more waterproof at the seams?
Sorry I missed out. Evidently, I am out of Brazilias.
I know there is aproduct you can get at outdoor stores specifically for waterproofing seams...like a roll on kinda product. I believe the stuff is needed to be applied to all new tents to seal the fine stitching holes
Any way Neil...thanks for joining in...I guess we wont be rushing for the instant chat software anytime soon :lmao:
Glad you could make it!! Cheers
We should do this again though. I'm set. I'm sure we could get more people next time.
I'm down to the last inch and this cigar is still going along nicely. 2 hours for a 5 inch cigar. I'm glad I didn't go with the Anaconda. I wouldn't have made it.
For sure I'll try again...let me know whats a good time for you, this way at leat there will be two of us
I thought 6pm west and 9pm east on a Friday was a good time time have it.
Well, I'm packing it in. I will post pictures in a couple hours.
Thanks again to Pete.
Yeah Pete, don't give up on the idea. I couldn't make it tonight, but i really like the idea and would try to make the next one!
Okay, for sure we'll try again...I might try another poll for day that works better maybe??? Like a poll that says next week Thurs, Fri, Sat, or Sun ....i'll set it up tomorrow
Sorry I missed out. I was to busy with the family tonight to sneak away for a cigar. Hopefully I can join in the next time. As for the time I think it's a good time to have it as it works well for Geeks on both coasts. Glad you guys had fun.
Proud of you Neil for toughing it out tonight. Good thinking on the trip to Good Will for the coat.
I was trying. Sorry I missed it. Looked like I would have been the lone mi barrio guy though. Hopefully next time works out.
I will join in next time if you do this again. Been occupied with other things lately during the break.
But defiantly post a date :smoker:
So here are the conditions I set up in tonight, my new smoking jacket and sweater, and my temporary man cave.
Edit: Well I am currently unable to upload pictures. Seems to be a theme around here lately. If I am able to in the future I will add them to the thread.
I was working during this herf, so no way I coulda made it
Warmer weather will probably increase participation as well...

Sorry I couldn't make it. I'm not sure about other folks, but would it be possible to do it another night? The weekends here are usually reserved for family time.
Just a suggestion.
