Question:
Favorite Method of Brewing Coffee
Option 1: Mr. Coffee (or similar)
votes: 17
Everyone has their own favorite way to brew. What's yours and why?
I love the Pour Over Method. It lets me get the right temp and speed of the water. :)
You are missing vac pot (siphon method)
Ah so I am. Why do you like that compared to other methods?
A more accurate answer for me is whatever is easiest. if I'm out, I'll buy a cup. If home, it's a K-Cup. Quick and easy with little mess.

The water can't get hot enough to scorch your grounds. Unlike a French Press, you get no sediment at all. The coffee is fuller in flavor with no bitterness (although "weaker" than what you get from a press).
On top of that, they are just really cool.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to give it a try sometime.
We now use Cusinart similiar to the K cup. You can fill your own coffee into it but the French press is really the way to go. :-)
Espresso made the traditional Italian way http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/7117054/?catalogId=26&bnrid=3120901
Technically, I guess you could call it percolation, but the end result is infinitely better. You know, like more than 100000000000000% better.
Otherwise, pour-over.
Gonna have to look into the vac pot ... it sounds interesting. Thanks for the hint Jackal!
K-Cups are my favorite method because they are so convenient.
Interesting... mine really depends on the day/situation:
Weekday mornings: Use a Grind & Brew (http://www.cuisinart.com/products/coffee_bar/dgb-900bc.html) - Still gives you a good tasting coffee but is really convenient. Best balance of freshness, taste, and convenience.
Weekend mornings: French Press. Definitely the best tasting, but a little more effort.
Other random times: K-Cup. It's nice for a quick here or there, don't need to worry about having to clean it out, or how much I make, etc.
Right now I use the K-Cups. Love it! For back up I have a Percolator.
I see there are alot of you drink coffee, how about Tea? I also love tea. Im a huge fan of long leaf teas.
Depends on if I just want coffee to wake me up or to enjoy the taste.
In the morning I use a Mr. Coffee or Kureg machine, but to enjoy a cup I will cold brew or french press it.
since as long as I can remember my grandmother used to make coffee with an Italian pot. It is so good.. try to used different methods but it never taste like it should. i guess I'm used to do it the Italian way. easy, affordable and really good!
I have a Bialetti also. Espresso old-school.
Then French press for regular coffee and also a simple Melitta cone on occasion.
Since I am the closest to Seattle I feel obligated to tell you how I do it. I get the store brand grounds at the grocery store and use a cheap drip coffeemaker.

:word: Mr. Coffee makes coffee taste like rubber to me.
I was very pleased with investing in a more expensive grinding coffee maker. While it's still not as good as French Press, buying whole beans and having it grind them then brew it makes the coffee taste about 1,000 times better than store-bought generic pre-ground coffee which I don't think I can ever go back to.
I have a Cuisinart grind and brew at the river house and a Cuisinart 12 cup maker and a burr grinder at home and love em they make a great cup of coffee
What skore129 said is true, especially as it relates to relatives, I'd say. We took our own french press to a Thanksgiving dinner a couple of years ago, thereby committed an unpardonable sin apparently, and I guess we really offended the host. I just couldn't stand that nasty electroperk coffee they made. They can have it if they want it, I want something better to enjoy after a good meal. Even at Golden Corral they come and ask you if you would like a complimentary coffee, and it's not bad. Not sure what they use, but ok for drip.
I seriously miss the Dunkin Donuts coffee. For some reason it always tasted amazing. Time to visit the midwest/east coast I think....
I use a variety of methods depending on the time. When I'm getting up for work at 04:00 I use the drip machine that I set up the night before to come on with a timer. At other times I use an espresso maker, but I really like a cup of old school percolator coffee. It just has a flavor that I like and that can't be duplicated any way that I know of. It depends on the quality of the coffee used though as to how good it is...
I have been using the following setup for about 3 years. Makes kickass, smooth, strong coffee.
I use this for brewing: http://www.amazon.com/Aerobie-AeroPress-Coffee-Espresso-Maker/dp/B0047BIWSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334452940&sr=8-1
I brew into this, the AeroPress fits nicely: http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Nissan-18-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Insulated/dp/B0000639WN/ref=sr_1_9?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1334452994&sr=1-9
I use this hot pot: http://www.amazon.com/Aroma-AWK-115S-X-Press-2-Liter-Cordless/dp/B000KDVTJI/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1334453081&sr=1-5
This is my preferred coffee: http://www.amazon.com/Jeremiahs-Pick-Coffee-Fogbuster-5-Pound/dp/B000FL3IM6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334453199&sr=8-1
And I grind in this: http://www.amazon.com/Breville-BCG450XL-Conical-Burr-Grinder/dp/B000MDHH0Q/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1334453245&sr=8-11
To each his own. Taste is subjective.
If it's coffee, and it's good, I am not too picky as to how it is brewed. Bring on the java and a great stick!! :word:
I work on restaurant equipment too. I have a hard piped Bunn-O-Matic next to my Breville espresso machine. steph I and are hard core coffee freaks!
I've never been able to get into coffee. It all tastes like dirt to me, and I've tried it prepared by pretty much every method, with a lot of different additives. Bitter dirt.
Cigars and coffee rocks. I will drink coffee no matter how it has been brewed but if given the choice, French press please.
nothing is better for a sunday morning than a nice cigar and a hot coffee.
Bringin back an old thread. I brew espresso exclusively right now. Make an americano for the wife and an espresso for myself.
I use an Italian press. I had my first morning smoke yesterday it was awesome!

mmmmm coffee and stogie. Is that a lusitania?
We have a Saeco espresso machine that grinds the beans fresh. Rarely have espresso, but it makes amazing coffee and my wife likes when I make her cappuccinos.

yes Mike it was, good eye. It was so good. The coffee really brought out some nice sweetness in the stick.
I've had just about every variety of brewing coffee...spent hundreds of dollars and French Press is about the best way for me to enjoy coffee. It's simple...quick and once you get your "tastes" linked to the ratio of beans and water you've got a recipe for life. I enjoy so many different kinds of beans and using a FP is absolutely the best way to enjoy them.
I love my Breville espresso machine when I'm in a hurry, but my favourite method is my good old Corning Ware stovetop percolator. Takes a while to get it just right, but it always makes a great cup of coffee!
I use a Keurig and make K-cup coffee. Nice and quick, and you can mix flavors cup after cup
Every day use: Techni Vorm (drip) Special occasions: cold-pressed or vac pot. But it's all good!
By far my favorite method is French press. I find I get a little more body and texture and I can control the temp of the water I use. I will also occasionally put a VERY small pinch of salt with the grounds. Alleviates any bitterness the brew may have.
Now having said all that I do keep a Keurig in my office at work because of the K- Cup convenience.

HEY that cigar looks familiar :shades:
Just use the perky for my daily cup
We've got a better then average drip coffee maker. It makes pretty good coffee if you used filtered or bottled water. We really like a couple of different kinds of everyday run of the mill coffee. My favorite is New England Brand Breakfast Blend and Dunkin Donuts Turbo. If we have the chance to get some top quality coffee, we really like the Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. We also like the Hawain Kona coffee.
Chemex...love my Chemex.

X2 we love our Keurig. I don't mix much mostly staying with the dark roasts but the wife like the flavored coffees so it works perfect and brews a great cup.
Bunn and fresh ground beans for daily use. French press when I have the time.

Have you ever tried Costa Rican Tarrazu? I use a traditional "chorreador" every morning.

I have an old 60's percolator that makes fantastic coffee, and keeps it fresh and hot for hours. I also enjoy a french press from time to time, but this old school system makes a damn fine cup o' joe. :bigthumbs:
What the hell is French press? I love to order espresso at coffee shops but am scared to commit to buying my own machine. So many varying reviews online.

French press is an involved way of making coffee that ends up with a ton of sediment. In the bright side, it's pretty strong. If you like espresso you'll like French press coffee. As far as espresso machines go, if you don't cheap out you pretty much can't go wrong..
French press with freshly ground beans for me
Coffeemakers is by far the most common in Norway. My favorite coffee is Americano
Other:
1. Fly to Columbia.
2. Make sex with locals.
3. Sneak away in middle of night with finest coffee beans.
4. Come back to USA.
5. Do donuts over coffee beans with Lamborghini.
6. Order bitch to scrape up coffee grounds.
7. Make sex with bitch.
8. Boil Water.
9. Snort coffee grounds.
10. Drink boiling water.
11. Make sex.
That's some expensive coffee, Jeff. :shades:
Have a Saeco espresso machine... amazing coffee from fresh ground beans
I love our french press, usually toss some Community chicory coffee in there then serve it up New Orleans style, cafe au lait.
This inexpensive and simple little gadget makes excellent coffee or "near espresso" - I think the best home brew I have had

I think the best cup of coffee I ever had, was what's called cowboy coffee while at a hunt camp,,,large coffee protoceratops camp fire,, add grounds,,,,bring to boil,, take off fire,,left sit a couple minutes,,, pour cold water over the mix to settle grounds, and enjoy,,,,might be just me, but it was the best,,,don't think the snow or cold had anything to do with the coffee either,,,,lol

HA - missed that - Wescat is right on. For those that like french press, this setup, to me, makes coffe similar to that but w/o some of the bitter notes, so it seems 'richer', I guess
Espresso from freshly ground beans. But I can't drink coffee past 10H00 AM
Turkish is good too but when I drink one, I don't sleep for a couple of days

Easiest way to enjoy some of the best coffee you'll ever drink. It's all about the beans....allows one to buy whole beans and ground them right before you drink the coffee which is where the taste is. There are so many varieties and qualities of coffee beans and with French Press it's all about tailoring your tastes to what you like...medium, strong, extra strong like espresso.
Grind the beans as course as you can.
Heat up good filtered water to as hot as you can get ( hot water pot...get these at Walmart cheap )
Buy a FP that holds at least a couple of cups of coffee ( 32 ounces is what I have )
Takes a total of about 4 minutes from the time you start til you are having some great coffee.
I roast my own beans, mostly from Bali and Central Am.
Usually, 2 weeks worth, so its fresh at all times.
I am a French press junkie. We have been drinking Sam's club house brand here of late. Pretty descent.
Just curious, but is this a daily ritual, or a Sunday morning treat. I had my first cup of "French Press' coffee last weekend while camping. It was a fine brew for sure....BUT...I can't see myself going to the trouble on a daily basis.

I don't drink coffee on a daily basis so most of the time I do use a French Press. The funny thing is I bought it for my GF (hardcore coffee drinker) and I use it more then she does. She likes the flavor but tells me she doesn't have the time to brew cup after cup in it.
