Title: 2012/2013 Cigar Geeks Introductions
Post by: wescat on 06/10/2012 10:14 AM
Morning y'all. We did this a couple of years ago, everyone introduced themselves, etc.

As many new people as there are now, we should do it again. I'd like to see everyone post on this thread, lurkers and posters, veterans and newbies, all y'all.

It would be great if you would post a picture as well.

The format is:
1.   Who you are, age, etc.
2.   How long you've been smoking cigars.
3.   Where you live and why.
4.   What you do for a living.
5.   Whatever you'd like to share about your family.
6.   What your hobby's are.
7.   Why you frequent this forum.
8.   Why you picked the user name you have.
9.   Why you picked the avatar you use.
10.   Anything else ya want to tell us.

OK, so, to get things started;

1.   Hello, I'm Kevin, I'm 52.
2.   I've been smoking cigars for 8 years now.
3.   I live between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, Louisiana. I moved here for work 10 years ago.
4.   I am a Reliability Engineer in a chemical plant.
5.   I have 3 kids; a son that is 28; a daughter that is 22; and a daughter that is 16. And my special pretty woman, she's in the pic below.
6.   Cigars are my #1 hobby. I also LOVE to fish, and south Louisiana is a fantastic place for fishing. I prefer salt to fresh, and the marsh is my favorite place to be, I could live on the water. I ride motorcycles (both street and dirt), and enjoy fixing everything myself, so I am often in my workshop all weekend long.
7.   I frequent Cigar Geeks because of the friendly, helpful, good people; I looked around at other cigar forums but found them to be a PITA.
8.   "wescat" was a nickname that my friends called me in high school.
9.   My avatar is the icon from CRA; I think we all should be CRA members.
10.   I'm a bit of a Camacho fan. I collect their Liberty series.

One other point that I would like to make; please fill in your location in your profile so that it displays when you post. It helps to savvy a post if you know where the poster is from.

Post up y'all!

Oh, and the pic below is of me and Miss Cherise, sitting in the atrium of the Ritz Carlton in NoLa, a couple of years ago.

Y'all take good care, and Enjoy the Tobacco.

Okay, I'll bite.

1.  I'm Dave, age 46.

2.  I've been smoking cigars in earnest again for about 4 years after about a 10 year break.

3.  I live in the southernmost city in Georgia:  Jacksonville, FL.  I wound up here because NAS Cecil Field was my Dad's last duty station in the USN.  My wife, Diana, and our son, Hunter live in the same house I grew up in.  Dad      made us an offer we couldn't refuse when he and Mom moved to Graceville, FL in 1994.

4.  I'm a gubmint contract worker in the employ of Enterprise Information Services (EIS).  The arm I work for handles the digital imaging of documents for the Federal Department of Labor (FECA/Office of Workmen's Compensation Program).  I've been there since 2000.  My wife Diana works for EIS as well as a contractor doing a similar job for the Department of Energy, having been there since 2008.  Ironically, we met when we were both working for a local retail outfit in 1990.

5-6.  I have a son, Ben (age 26), from a previous marriage.  Our son Hunter is 20.  I'm a semi-professional musician, playing mostly keyboards these days and sometimes double on bass.  I played brass instruments in school, winding up playing tuba in high school and during my brief collegiate career.  Up until they rebuilt the old Gator Bowl upon the arrival of the Jaguars and tore down the old Coliseum in 2003. I could honestly state that I had played every major venue in Jacksonville.  The busiest I've ever been musically was when I was with a Jimmy Buffet-esque Trop-Rock/Oldies band called Rip Tide from 2004-2009 with an old high school friend.  We averaged 120 gigs a year.

Both of my sons are musicians.  Ben, a slamming blues-oriented guitarist, was on Letterman at the age of 12, has 3 or 4 indie cds out, and over the years has had sponsorship deals with Brian Moore guitars, G&L, Rivera amps, with the last being with Laguna/Guitar Center.  In 2000, I spent several days in a studio with Ben and an awesome drummer named Tony Royster, Jr.  Ben and Tony were working for Nickelodeon at the time in a band under the direction of Paul Shaffer of SNL/Letterman fame.

Hunter plays whatever he lays his hands on (other than keys) and does it very well.  When he was 12, he was arranging the horn parts for my Funk/Soul/blues review band, Soul Brigade.  Then, playing guitar, he formed a couple of metal bands that saw some local success, before quitting school the first part of his senior year to go on the road as his big brother's bassist. for close to two years.  He finally got his diploma, works part-time in a local studio and plays lead guitar and bass with our band, MuddSkipper.  He's going to take a couple of courses at the local JuCo this fall.

My beloved Diana and I met in February of 1990, and promptly fell in love.  I moved in with her in July or August, 1990.  I can honestly say I'd be dead by now if it weren't for her.

We have three great dogs (Lab mixes): T-Bone (the Dad, and my "John Coffee"), and his two offspring, Missy Sue Louise Francine What With The Little Head And The Long Legs, and d'Artagnan.  d'Art is blind from birth.

7. I found Cigar Geeks just googling cigar stuff.  Honestly, it was Bob Cordell, Rich Fry (lowpro75) and Les Chamness (Hot Stuff x) that convinced me to stick around.  The first two because of their wit and general A-holishness, and the latter because he sent me my first bomb shortly after I joined.

8.  Gitfiddl was the first username I ever had when I hit the internet.  BellSouth only allowed 8 characters back then.  My Mammaw used to call my bass guitar a "gitfiddle", so I just dropped the "e" to make it fit.

9.  My avatar is the product of a long-running joke around here.

10.  I think I covered most everything...

And here's me and Diana:

1. I am Mark and I am 56 yrs old.
2. I started smoking cigars around 2005.  I went through a very traumatic time in my life and found that the anticipation and smoking of a cigar     worked much better for me than the pills that the Dr. was giving me.
3. I have lived here in the state of Washington since 1982.
4. I am a Groundman for the local electric utility here.  I do the grunt work on the ground for the lineman in the air.
5. Next month I will have been married to my wife Toni for 33 years.
6. My hobbies are cigars, cooking on my Big Green Egg, and playing guitar at church.  I play a Stratocaster and belong to a Black, Pentecostal chruch.
7. Here in Washington, you can't even smoke at a local B&M.  It's not convenient to go to Indian Reservation property and frequent a cigar lounge.  I enjoy this forum and all I have learned from it.

The picture is one of Toni and myself on one of our cruises.

6. I work long hours so I don't have many hobbies, but I enjoy golfing when the opportunity arises, and cigars of course.
7. I frequent this forum because it gets me away from my daily routine. I can check it on the go and there is always something interesting going on. There are some truly great people on here. I feel like I'm hanging out with a bunch of friends. The diversity is good too!
8. My username is a combination of my first and last name, shortened.
9. My avatar is a band from a very tasty stick that is shrouded in mystery. (I can't find it anywhere)

This is me and Debra........ yes I am a blessed man......and, no, i don't know why she is with me!

Byron 56
I've been smoking for about 12yrs or so don't really remember when I started.

Moline Illinois, or the Quad cities as we call it around here, moved to this area from Colorado in 1996. My wife is from a town south of where we live and her parents retired and they moved back and we followed.

I'm an Animal Control Officer for the City of Rock Island, I've been doing this for the past 15 years.

I've been married for 30 yrs; have a son Levi 24, who is getting married in Oct. and a daughter, Kirsten 21 and well be starting her senior at Saint Ambrose University. I've got three dogs a Cocker Spaniel, named "Spunky", a three legged Pitbull named "Cassidy", and the latest addition a Shih-Tzu named "Chumly". Spunky and Cassidy where rescued off the streets, and Chumly mom came from a puppy mill.

Cigars of course, but I like playing golf when I get a chance and traveling.

I like this forum because the people that are on here are nice and seem to care when help is needed, no snobs, and no bashing, just good all around people.

My user name is from my initials BGR when you sound them out it comes out Beeger I added the ply because Beeger was already taken, I meant to spell play but forgot the "A" so I just left it at that.

I've used a couple of different avatars before the one I use know, but I had a beard at one time and some people said I looked like Castro in my younger days.

My name is Brian Foley, age 45 (18 for my mental state!). I have enjoyed cigars off and on for a while, but really they were just liquor store types. I got a new job last September, and both my boss's are big BOTL. So, with a little tutoring from them and my local B&M, I am getting a bit more knowledgeable as the days go by. I live in Buda Texas, just outside of Austin. I love living here, because, well, it's Texas baby! I work for a wholesale company that sells countertop material, sinks, faucets, tools, abrasives and all things needed to remodel kitchens and baths. If you need a hookup, and are a general contractor or something similar shoot me a PM and I will take extremely great care of you! I have two boys, Nolan age 19, and Brogan age 16. Nolan fronts a band called A New Hope, check em out. Brogan is an avid skateboarder and is very, very good, and also is very popular with the girls. My hobbies are camping, hanging with family and friends, listening to music, dabbling on the guitar, faith, and helping others whenever I can. I also love everything to do with Angels baseball; Lakers; Kings and Rams. Also a huge Texas Longhorn fan. I frequent this site, because I was lucky enough to stumble across it, and it is such a wealth of information, and even though I am a noob, there are obviously a great bunch of folks on here. I love it! My user name is my high school nickname, and my first name, jumbled up. Just as I was in high school...all jumbled up! My avatar is of a light switch my wife made for me using some of my favorite bands of some of my favorite sticks. We make these for folks all the time, so if you want one, send me a PM and I will give you the details. I am married to my lovely, and very understanding wife, Therese, and we will be celebrating 22 yrs of marriage this October. Yes, I landed a keeper! Great lady and such a class act...makes me look good in public as well! I look forward to having a blast on this site for years to come, and anticipate making some great friends in the process. Maybe we can have a CG get together one of these years somewhere, that would be super, duper cool! Thank you to all the generous BOTL for making me feel like a part of the family so quickly, and sending me some great cigars. Peace, love and great cigars to all of y'all!

1. I am Jason, a 42 year old native Californian
2. I smoked my first cigar, an SLR Serie G, about 4 years ago.  However like all of my hobbies, I have jumped in and delved into cigars with all of the enthusiasm that I can muster, doing everything to learn as much as I can about this noble pursuit.
3. I live in Anaheim Hills.  I have lived my whole life in California, and would not trade the weather for most anything.  Where I live specifically is about 2km from work to avoid a commute.
4. I am a product development chemist, specializing in hi-tech applications.
5. Rebecca Silverwolf from this site is my girlfriend
6. My hobbies include board games, handguns, politics, mixology, and I am currently playing around with drumming.
7. I think CG is a great source of reliable info, and the people here are great.
8. I have always liked jackalopes.  I think that they are noble, fierce and majestic creatures.  I use the name jackalope or a variation of it such as jackalopejay, jackalopej or simply jackal as my screename for all internet interactions.
9. I searched for a pic of a jackal smoking a cigar.  I found one and did some pixel by pixel manual editing of the image to make it look better when reduced.
10.  I find that cigar culture is filled with lore, some that pans out when held to the light of science and reason, some that does not.  I am doing my best to dispell the myths and help people find their way to way to the actual facts.

1. My name is Chris Robinson.  I'm 23 years old (24 on the 1st of July).
2. I've been smoking cigars and pipes on and off since I was 18, but only truly got serious about it when I was 20.  So at this point I've got 3 years of serious smoking under my belt.
3. I live in Denton, Texas.  I live here because it's affordable.  Also, I like Denton because it's a happy medium between a small town and a big city.  Just right for me.
4. I work part time at a tobacco shop called Up In Smoke in Lewisville, Texas.  I'm also a full-time college student.  In addition, I'm a musician.  I'm involved in four musical projects at the moment.  Hard Evening, Suburb! is my solo project, Soft Morning, City! is a sometimes full band, sometimes duo project, Ten Horns Proud which is a dark folk/blues/Americana-type project in which I sing, play banjos, acoustic guitars and harmonium, plus a secret noise music project.
5. I have two adoptive parents and an adopted younger sister who is four years younger than me.  They live in California, where I lived for the first 18 years of my life.  I also have a girlfriend, Danielle.  We've been together for almost two years.
6. My hobbies are cigars and tobacco (obviously), music, reading, writing, politics, drinking craft beer, Backgammon, collecting (vinyl records, books, cigars and pipes/pipe tobacco), traditional shaving (I use a straight razor) and shooting (mainly shotguns).  I also go fishing on occasion.
7. I frequent this forum for the valuable information, the great people and the humor.  I also love being involved in passes and such.
8. Hard Evening, Suburb! is my solo musical project, as stated above.
9. I am a card-carrying minister in the Church of the SubGenius.  My avatar is J. R. "Bob" Dobbs, savior of slack and founder of the Church.

Very cool.

1. Nick, I'm 28.
2. On and off for ~ 5 years, really got into it though in the past year.
3. Southeast Michigan. I grew up here, went to University of Michigan and then found a job here, so I'm here.
4. I'm a labor & employment attorney. I work in house at a national company which is HQed in Michigan.
5. I'm married (going on a year) and we have a dog, Lincoln. Other than that I have 1 brother who lives in California and my parents still live in Michigan.
6. I'm also a big microbrew guy, so I enjoy trying new beers. Otherwise, my hobbies are playing with my dog, watching sports (mostly football), BBQing, watching/reading history books/shows, going to the movies.
7. I came upon in trying to learn more about just what I needed to do in general related to cigars, since I had no clue. I lurked for a while and read tons of stuff and then finally decided to join up.
8. My last name is ridiculously long, so I need a short user name, I use my first initial (n) and then the start of my last name (kowal). It's something I've used for a long time, because really if I can avoid spelling out my last name I do.
9. I'm *a little* obsessed with Michigan football.
10. Really became more interested other than just the occasional cigar I'd have when I tried a Partagas D4 in the Bahamas.

And to put a face with my name... me and the woman who complains about my cigar purchases! :)

1.   My name in Keith Crosby and I am 43 years old
2.   Started smoking cigars the night before Thanksgiving 2011
3.   I live in Monroe, CT - I moved here in 2002 because it was the 1/2 way point between my job and my wife's job, it had the best school district in the area and we could not afford to move further South (Fairfield County, CT is VERY expensive)
4.   I am in commercial construction.  I specialize in commercial interiors and am transitioning into a new business development role (sales).  I have only worked for 3 companies my entire life (started working in construction at 17 years old.)
5.   My wife Lisa is my soul mate, we have been married 18 years this October, my daughter Emily is 16 (17 in July) and is a Junior in High school and my son Andrew is 15 (16 in December) and is my best friend.

7.   At first I joined this site it was to learn more about the hobby, now I do not know why
8.   My user name has been my on-line name since the web started - KC is my initials and Kodiak is the chewing tobacco I use.
9.   My avatar will change as the seasons progress.  Currently my beloved NY Rangers, Yankee avatar coming soon but will be replaced by NY Giants come September.
10.   Love being here and part of the brotherhood, it was not until my trip to Cigarfest a few months ago that I truly started to appreciate the commaderie of the cigar smoking world.

Looking forward to reading everyone elses Bio!

Yes, the Church of the SubGenius seems to be an offshoot of Discordianism.  However, it is much more loose and jokey than Discordianism.  I joined mainly because I identify with their sense of humor and general philosophy, specifically the notion that we must have "slack" to be truly happy.  I work hard in order that I may inevitably have plenty of "slack," slack being the freedom and time to do what I want when I want to.  Aside from this, C.o.S.G. is mainly an "organization" that satirizes other religions, specifically Scientology.

Me and a bunch of my art/musician friends decided to get our memberships when we were in high school because we thought the whole concept was hilarious.  We had a mini SubGenii posse and had ourselves quite a bit of fun.  That's about as far as my commitment to the whole thing goes.  I'm not a truly religious person.  I'm just a weirdo who likes having slack.

Plus, all true SubGenii are apparently descendents of the Yeti.  I'm quite hairy and tall.  So, connect the dots and it all makes sense.

Or not.

Slack on, folks!

1. My name is Jeff Ward I'm 42
2. Been smoking cigars for 20+ years dad is a cigar smoker so grew up around them. Had about a 5 year break where I didn't keep many around just smoked a couple a week because of my ex but she got traded in for the cigars.
3. I live in Fort Collins Colorado about 50 miles north of Denver. Come from Greeley not to far from here so came home after I retired.
4. Project Super for a paving and concrete company, CSU student and Retired from the US Army in Dec of 2008.
5. Married to my current wife for just over a year now and she doesn't mind my cigars as long as they stay in my room  Have a son (22) and a daughter (20) from a previous marriage.
6. Cigars and my Harley are my 2 big money pits I have but they go together so well!
7. Started looking at forums for trades, box splits etc. Got onto a few started reading the rules for one and noticed the you can't do ANYTHING for 4 months rule and thought hmmmmm... Then I watched a member that had been on for about 3 months post trying to trade for empty cigar boxes or coffins. He was subsequently reprimanded by several members for attempting a trade before his 4 months was up. That was the last time I ever logged into THAT site and have been on Cigar Geeks ever since.
8. Was my email and username for the last 4 years I was on active duty and just kept using it so I can easily be identified across any site I use. That and it makes it easy for my senile A$$ so I don't have to remember 50 friggin user names across the web!
9. It's the US Army logo baby! My saying at the bottom is of course part of the lyrics for Pink Floyd "Come in here dear boy have a Cigar!" If I would have done any kind of illegal substances in my youth, which I'm not admitting to of course, then Pink Floyd would have been one of my all time favorites even to this day!
10. LOVE my Denver Donkeys! But not sure Peyton Manning is the answer to high gas prices and how to eat chunky Peanut Butter without getting peanut pieces stuck in your teeth like everyone else here thinks he is! Love music mainly classic rock and metal but I really do listen to just about anything if it sounds good I like it no matter what the genre is.

Not sure if I participated last time. If I did, some things have changed over the last couple years ...

1.   Armin Burkholder, turning 50 in a few days (ugh ... how did this happen?)

2.   I smoked my first cigar in the garage of my father's house. It was the original White Owl, and was meant to turn me off from ever trying to smoke behind Dad's back again. He made me inhale. That was exciting, but it didn't work. At 25 I started enjoying the occasional ISOM (I grew up in Canada). Got introduced to DR, Hon and Nics when I moved to the US. A couple years ago I started smoking cigars more often as a way to relieve the stresses from home and work life. It works better than any drug.

3.   I live in central Virginia (Henrico county near Richmond). This is where work and fate brought me, as I was under the thumb of the USCIS until I obtained a green card. We are citizens now, and I will be here at least until both my boys are through college.

4.   I manage a team of software developers.

5.   I met Miss Cheryl in a bar. I watched her drink more than any human ought to be able to drink without being hospitalized, then I watched her walk a straight line out of the bar. I knew I had to find out more about her. Sounds a bit unusual, maybe even stupid, but that's how it happened. She has brought two boys into the world with me, and has helped shape them into remarkable young men.

6.   Hobbies. Shooting. Well, it's not really a hobby, more like serious training, but it's what I do. Got started with Dad when I was a youngster, and am still learning what it really means to shoot well. I also work out a lot, like it or else. Other things include physics, astrophysics, and bio. Lots of music when I was younger, but not so much any more.

7.   This forum is fun! And educational. And there are lots of real fine people who hang out here.

8.   My user name is a play on the middle part of my too-long-to-type-very-often last name.

9.   My avatar represents everything I aspire to one day become :-)

10.   I am *really* glad I can vote this November.

This is a pic I have handy of my father and I. It is 3 years old, but not much has changed.

1. My Name is Peter Krivejko, I am 40 years old.
2. I used to smoke 1 or 2 cigars a year for about 10-15 years....then the last year or 2, I started smoking 1 or 2 a week towards the end of the summer and fall when I went tailgating at football games. But they were always B&M purchases and smoked right after....It wasn't until my buddy jhalfhill here at the office motivated me to get a humidor about 3 and a half months ago that I actually got serious about the hobby.
3. I live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio....Mentor. As to why??? Well I was an Air Force brat when I was a kid and I was in a new place almost every year of my life till I was 8. when I was 7 my parents split and my mther took my sister and I "home" as both of my parents are from this area of Northeast Ohio. And it is the first time I had ever been in one place for an extended period of time....The first place I could truly hang my hat. So when I graduated college I came home and found a job and I have been in the area ever since....
4. I am a Systems Analyst for the Cleveland Clinic. My Main duties revolve around ad hoc data wrangling and report writing from the infromation coming out of the main Hospital Information System(HIS). We have a lot of Data Mart Development going on as well. I was a part of the Team that supported the Inpatient module of the HIS for 5 of our 13 hospitals...On Call was not fun. And there are many sleepless nights to attest to it.
5. I have been married to my beautiful wife coming on 5 years in October. We have 2 "furry" children. Guinness, a black lab/Aussie Shepherd mix. and Bailey, a black lab/Whippet mix.
6. Oh geez, what don't I like??? First and foremost I love to spend time and go out with my lovely wife. When we can we lilke to take trips whether day trips or longer...I love cars and driving even if I don't have the 2nd car to show off and baby...I play golf when I can. I am captain of my Darts Team that plays ever Wednesday Night, I love fine wine(more on the drier side) and I love craft beers. I love to grill and smoke/bbq. I am a HUGE Cleveland Browns fan, and a Cleveland sports fan over all...I am an Ohio State fan , followed closely by the Razorbacks of Arkansas. I love to shoot, though I rarely get to do so. I love art and if you have the chance check out the spanish impressionist "Royo"....probably my favorite artists alive today. And lastly I have been into listening to the Rat Pack era Music...Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald....I don't know what it is.....while I love all kinds of music, from opera, to pop, to some metal, and back to Bach and Bethoven....latley the Siriusly Sinatra station just calms me down....
7. I came to this forum because of the Virtual Humidor...plain and simple...I "frequent" this forum because of the people. This is a great bunch of people. Very generous and giving in time, information and yes gifts too. I love the dry sarcastic wits of many of the posters which fits right in with me....If you can't get along with the people on this board...then you have a screw loose....
8. PETE is rather self explanatory...314 is actually my chapter role number within my fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon from college...
9. I look at cigars as one of the finer things in life and I loved the look and style of the particular photograph...
10. Don't know I think I covered the bases....If anyone is wondering....the "rocketship underpants" quote is from Calvin and Hobbes...and I just love the smartass attitude of my other quote...

Me and my amazing wife...

Hello, my name is Bryan and I'm a cigar smoker. I'm 34 years young, but feel 50 years old.

I've been smoking cigars off and on for over 10 years but have really been into the hobby the last 3 years.

I currently reside in the great state of Washington, where the views are beautiful, it rains a lot and the tobacco taxes are high.

I work in law enforcement and I'm currently one of two Animal Control Officers serving a community of about 28,000 citizens.

I'm married to my high school sweet heart going on 13 years and we've been together going on 18 years. I have 5 year old twin boys and two dogs.

I enjoy the hobbies of cigars and pipes and really enjoy music. I prefer Heavy Metal and I enjoy attending rock concerts. I enjoy chatting on this forum and discussing cigars as well.

I frequent this place because I enjoy discussing cigars and chatting with other like minded individuals with similar interests. Plus the virtual humidor makes it really easy for keeping track of my collection.

My username comes from music and cigars. I'm a Metalhead and I enjoy cigars, and since Romeo y Julieta are my favorite cigars that's how I came up with my name. metalhead y cigarguy

My avatar is of Peter Griffin from the TV animated sitcom Family Guy. It's one of my favorite shows, and I think all of us have a little Peter Griffin inside us somewhere.

The format is:
1. Hi, I'm Mickey 43

2. I started smoking cigarettes when I was 7, I smoked till I 27 and it killed my immune system, I was always sick and I decided to quit cold turkey. I smoked cigars off and on since H.S. but never a good premium stick. Not until 2006 I was hanging with a coworker who showed me how to cut, light and smoke (he is now my brother in law). I didn't get serious about cigars until last Aug and honestly I never could fill that void that cigarettes could, so I was watching The Sopranos and watching Tony smoke his cigars made me really want one. I told my wife that I was going to start smoking cigars....she didn't believe and she really is not a fan of the hobby, but doesn't give me as much grief as she used to about it.

3. Born and raised in Indianapolis, and I now live in Morresville, Indiana (about 30 mins West of Indy) Why? I don't know, I am actually not a fan of IN, if I had my way I would live in AZ.

4. I am a dispatcher for a trucking company, been here for 10 years and I am ready for a change.

5. I am happily married for 2 years (2nd marriage) no kids, but I do have a 5 year old stepson that always makes life interesting.

6. I'm kinda the opposite of all you, I don't like to hunt, fish, or guns. I am a music, movie and video game nerd. i used to ride motorcycles, but not since I was a teenager, I miss it sometimes.

7. I was recommended this forum by Chef, I had seen his tattos on AJF's FB page and I sent him a message about another cigar forum I belong to and he told me about CG, I lurked then joined and I enjoy all your posts and I especially like the virtual humi even though mine is out of wack now and needs updated drastically.

8. I am a failed musician and I pled bass in a band called irrate, I just like the name and use it for everything, people often confuse it with the fish.

9. I will not keep the same avatar, I change it up all the time, basically when I started smoking I started making a list of everything I smoked and what I liked and didn't the avatars are the sticks I would someday like a box of.

10. Glad to be here and glad you all accepted me.

Pic is of this weekend when I met, smoked and hung out with Glen Case of Kristoff Cigars, I'm the dork in the hat.

1.   Hi, I'm Eric, just turned 40.
2. I messed around with cigars a bit in the mid-90's boom, but never got serious (or learned anything). Last fall I went to a fundraiser for pediatric cancer that included hanging out, drinking scotch and smoking cigars. No idea what I smoked, but I loved it and immediately started geeking out on the hobby. So total time of being "serious" about cigars, maybe 7 months.
3. I live outside of Boulder, CO. My wife and I are Colorado natives and our careers (in "tech") have seemed to keep us near Boulder. The weather can't be beat, although we'd both prefer a little more urban setting.
4. I'm a software entrepreneur, two years into a startup building apps for Salesforce customers. This is my company: http://bracketlabs.com
5. My wife and I have a 2 year old daughter and a 2 month old son. As you can probably imagine, finding time to smoke a cigar can sometimes be a challenge. Luckily my wife is pretty understanding
6.   When I have free time, in addition to smoking cigars and drinking whiskey, I love to talk shop with other entrepreneurs and offer help wherever I can. I also love to geek out about strength and conditioning training (although training time is REALLY at a premium lately), denim (if you think cigars are a quirky hobby...) and reading.
7.   I found this forum while looking for an iPhone app to track my fledgling humidor. I stuck around because of the great people and generally helpful, friendly vibe. CG forums are by far the friendliest and least susceptible to people taking themselves too seriously of all the cigar forums I checked out.
8. It's my first initial and last name.
9. Always liked the image since I saw it used on a Jawbreaker record cover. Any Jawbreaker fans out there?
10. When I started geeking out on cigars I didn't have a clue about the generosity and friendliness associated with cigar culture. As I've learned more, it's become a really fun, cool part of the hobby and I have to thank the great folks here on CG for being such great examples of the BOTL spirit.

Here's my wife and I at our wedding a few years ago (pre-kids, so we look relatively rested)

1. Nathan Bonick – 30 years old.
2. I've been smoking cigars since college, so just over 10 years.  My brother and I lived together while we attended UGA, and he picked up cigar smoking while in the Army.  He introduced me to the fine hobby, and it has been downhill since.  For about 6 years, I smoked around 100 cigars a year, now I smoke 4-5 a week.
3. I live in a suburb of Atlanta.  Although I was born in Colorado, I grew up in a small town in Georgia called Buford.  After graduating from UGA, I found the job market in Atlanta to be very good, so I haven't left.
4. Currently, I'm a Project Accountant for The Wendy's Company.  As of mid-July, our office is being consolidated to Ohio, so I'll be working elsewhere (hopefully).  I'm currently looking at moving into a Financial Analysis role.
5. My wife, Stephanie, and I have been married almost seven years.  We met in a bar in Athens, Georgia, and we have been inseparable since.  We have a three year old daughter, Anistyn, who is our little gem.
6. When I have time, I love to golf.  I'm also an avid college football fan, UGA coming first and the SEC coming a close second.
7. I first joined CG for the virtual humidor and the "Hot Deals" BlackIrish always posted.  Found the people here to be very friendly (especially compared with some of the other Cigar Forums out there), so I decided to jump in.
8. They are my initials, and double as "newbie".
9. Just liked the picture.

Post by: RoscozRevenge on 06/12/2012 01:58 AM
Hello, my name is Dan and I am a 30 year old child... (Just picture a 6'3", 220 lb toddler who missed his nap and you will be on the right track)

My first cigar was a RyJ Tubo on New Years Eve 2000... I puked my guts out shortly after into my best friends bathroom sink. My interest was renewed on a 2008 vay-cay to the Dominican and the deal was sealed when I had my first PSD4 at a BBQ in 2010. I purchased my first humidor in April or May last year and struggled along until a coworker told me about Cigar Geeks. My collection just passed 700 and I have all of you wonderful geeks to blame for it!  :dancing:

I split my time between Lethbridge, Alberta where I was born and most of my fam-damn-ly resides, and Sparwood, British Columbia where I rent a second place to stay when I am working. In theory I work a 4 day on 4 day off shift schedule so I only need to make the 110 mile drive once a week. It is a beautiful drive across the prairies, into the hills and through a mountain pass all the way to work and the best part is 75mph the whole way! Just watch those darn deer and waskally RCMP.

I am a Journeyman Electrician and I install/service fire suppression systems on mobile mining equipment and in industrial facilities. Not exactly a glamorous job but it is about the best a greasy tradesman like me can do so close to home. I fell into my current occupation after being laid off December 2010 from the commercial/industrial electrical contractor where I worked in the city. Thanks recession.

So far the powers that be have wisely seen fit to ensure that I do not reproduce and sadly working out in the sticks has not been conducive to finding a nice lady to practice with. I visit my folks whenever I manage to get some time off and I have a younger sister who recently moved 220 miles North to Reddeer, Alberta with her husband so he could pursue a job offer that he received while they were on their honeymoon in Cuba.

Most of my hobbies have been put on hold as of late but I enjoy keeping an aquarium, hiking, discharging various firearms, accumulating mundane knowledge and prospecting for gold with my father on his claim in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia. I am also partial to good books, stiff drinks and strong cigars.

I hang out here mostly for the camaraderie of my fellow BOTL which is a constant source of amusement. It is challenging for a guy in my situation to meet like minded folk at all and really enjoy the diversity of members, not to mention the unusual sorts that frequent the joint.

RoscozRevenge has been my handle since back in the dial-up days when they first made a video game in which you could name your player. At the time the Roscoe part was supposed to reference the old school slang for a handgun. Ya'll know... damn kids and their damn games...

I recently changed my avatar from an image of Invader Zim, a maniacal cartoon alien with aspirations of world domination to a burnt out and crusty owl that looks as though he survives on gas station coffee and suffers the occasional acid flashback. I felt the change accurately reflects the evolution of my existence.

Below is a picture of me celebrating at my sisters wedding last August with a Ramon Allones SS and another of me on my thirtieth birthday with a CAO L'anniversaire.

I manage the family insurance agency and work part time at our restaurant we are trying to franchise. Im divorced because my ex wife ran off with a good friend and I kinda miss him...anyway, I have a beautiful 20 year old daughter that I'm trying to get through nursing school.

1. I'm Kyle, 35 years old.
2. Been smoking cigars and pipes since, well legaly since my 18th birthday.
3. Born and Raised in Central Nebraska.
4. I am now an assistant supervisor in the paint department at an extremely large farm equipment manufacturing corporation, and I farm on the side.
5. Happily single and have no children.
6. I farm, fish, hunt, BBQ, build custom fishing lures, and love to tinker.
7. I enjoy this forum for the people mostly, and the wealth of knowledge available.
8. wlfwalleye was kind of a mistake. When I used to tournament fish for walleye my boat was named Lone Wolf. On one of the entry forms the tournament sponsors mucked up the names and I ended up with wlfwalleye. It just kind of stuck with me from there.
9. Children of The Corn was based in Nebraska and if you have seen the movie and then see where I live you would understand.

Post by: Ken Kelley on 06/12/2012 01:11 PM
It's an interesting bunch of folks that hang out here. I've enjoyed reading through the submissions so far. So here's mine:

1. Who you are, age, etc.

Ken Kelley and I'm chronologically 62 but my virtual age varies wildly depending on mood and situation.

2. How long you've been smoking cigars.

I piddled around with them several years ago but got serious about them around 4 years ago.

3. Where you live and why.

5 miles up Indian Creek Road near Frenchburg, which is a teeny, tiny town in eastern KY. However, even with a booming population of about 600, Frenchburg is the county seat of Menifee County since it is the largest town in the county. We be somewhat remote. Our homeplace is in the middle of our 130 acres of Appalachian foothills woodlands. I'm not ashamed to admit it is quite beautiful. We bought the property after my wife and I retired from the USAF. She is from the area and has relatives in every holler. I'm an import but they accept me.

4. What you do for a living.

I am a retired USAF Senior Medical Staff Administrator but started my USAF career as an enlisted Psychiatric Clinic Specialist. Received a direct commission into the Medical Service Corps a few years later. I was a hospital administrator for a while then became an instructor at the USAF School of Health Care Sciences. Spent quite a bit of time as Director of Operations for a course teaching combat medicine and had the additional duty of developing chemical and biological warfare response procedures...and in the process spent WAY more time in MOPP gear than I ever want to spend again! Moved into the aeromedical evacuation airlift bidness from there and spent several years all over the world flying and having whatever passes for fun in the airlift world. Spent my last few years in Uncle Sam's Flying Circus as the Medical Advisor to the Turkish Armed Forces at HQ LANDSOUTHEAST in Izmir, Turkey.

Then I retired and went back to school (Southern Illinois U at Edwardsville) to use the rest of my GI Bill for a degree in Special Education. Taught at the Illinois Center for Autism a couple of years then a couple of years in KY in a severe behavior disorder environment before figuring out I had better things to do. So I headed to the woods and now spend my time cutting brush, working in the shop, and enjoying the surroundings.

5. Whatever you'd like to share about your family.

My wife, Paula, is a retired USAF MSgt. We've been married for years and years. I'll include a picture of us in our early years, one from much later on, and one from my bearded phase. Son, Patrick, is 42 and is some kind of Microsoft computer whiz working out of Charlotte, NC. He's on the road all the time. Daughter, Heather, is 39 and is a lawyer working in Denver. Got a couple of grandkids running around too. We share the land with Miss Amazing Grace, a mega-laidback bluetick hound, and Miss Honey Bee Rocket Butt, our ADHD sheltie mix.

6. What your hobby's are.

Cigars of course. Followed by shooting sports of all variety, bladesmithing, woodwork, and metal work of all forms. After so many years of working with intangibles in my USAF career I totally enjoy working with my hands and I'll share one I'm particularly proud of in the pictures to follow...it's a high speed belt grinder I use in my knifemaking and for general other stuff around the shop. I built it from scratch and the only store bought pieces are the two large aluminum wheels. The rest I machined from raw stock.

7. Why you frequent this forum.

Well why not? There's too much to learn and too much fun to be had to leave it alone!

8. Why you picked the user name you have.

Because of my interest in metal work. I liked the sound of it so I took it. Alpha iron is stable until it gets heated up. :)

9. Why you picked the avatar you use.

No reason. It changes at whim but is usually USAF centered in some respect...or not.

10. Anything else ya want to tell us.

No, because then I would have to...no.

1. My name is Doug, I'm going to be reaching the legal speed limit of 55 this year

2. I've been smoking cigars for almost a year now. I smoked them on occasion while I was smoking cigarettes then quit the cigaretts for 10 years before indulging in a good Macanudo at the Deadwood Tobacco Co. in Deadwood SD with some friends and have been in the hobby ever since.

3. I live in Beautiful Downtown Brighton Colorado. I started my USAF career at Lowery AFB in Denver in 1976 and have been trying to get back to Colorado ever since. When Comcast offered me a job in Denver I jumped on it with both feet, a length of rope and a knife and fork and never regretted a moment of it. Why Brighton? I lived in North Dakota for many years and grew to love life on the prairies. Brighton looks just like one of those little ND Prairie towns I grew to love BUT now I have some scenery to go along with the serenity.

4. I am a retired USAF veteran, 20 years stuffing bombs into F-4's, B-52's, F-16's, and F-111's without the loss of a bomb, plane or most importantly a single person (that wasn't being targeted) A self taught computer geek after retiring I migrated back to my hometown of Cheektowaga NY (I'm the last person on earth to move to Buffalo NY for a job) where I got a job at a small computer company. Which went bankrupt. So I signed on with Adelphia cable. Which went bankrupt. So when the dust settled I ended up working with Time Warner for a couple of years. Which went bankrupt. Well - not so much, but AOL dragged them down huge so they had to lay people off and I got my pink slip and Comcast picked me up on waivers. What do I actually do? Well, if your cable goes out you call the company, their technicians fix it. If their technicians can't fix it, they call their engineers. If their engineers can't fix it, they call me.

5. I'm divorced and recently remarried, Laurie and I got married on December 31 in a mining town saloon, and the fellow that officiated the ceremony is the guy that gave me that Macanudo months before. Between us we have 6 kids, 4 boys, two girls, and we love them all to pieces. Our oldest daughter just graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of North Dakota and our youngest daughter is getting married in September on a Bahamas cruise which gives us the opportunity to take that overdue honeymoon.

6. Besides cigars my hobbies are photography, geocaching (huge fun up here in Colorado), HAM radio (KB0LVZ), and anything to do with trains: chasing, riding behind, photography and modeling. HAM and model railroading are the two greatest hobbies to combine with cigars.

7. I frequent this forum because I like this forum, good advice, good jokes, good stuff all around.

8. My user name is PKAmmoTroop = Peace Keeper + Ammo Troop. My Alma Mater, the Strategic Air Command kept the Peace for decades (hell, Peace was our Profession) and us Ammo Troops insured the peace was kept.

9. My Avatar is the Strategic Air Command shield. I want to get that as a tattoo

The picture is my bride and I on our wedding day in Georgetown Colorado dressed in 1890's Victorian garb like a wealthy mine owner and his well to do lady.

Hello, My name is Steve and i am a 38 year old guy living in Fort St John B.C ,Canada. I have 1 wife (the bestest person i have ever met and could stand to be around for more than 5 min). 1 daughter (who know how to play daddy to get what ever she wants) 2 cats. (the wifes) 1 house, 1 car (pos sunfire) and 1 SUV (sanata fe). WE have been here for about 8 years now and its a typical northern canadian town and we love it.
I work as a Network Tech for the city of Fort St John, and have been there for 6 years now. I enjoy computers, networking and all things geek like.  I enjoy CFL football and of course Hockey!
I also play the tin whistle, and am trying my hand at the guitar. I do not hunt or fish or do much out side anymore as life is way to busy with other things. I do enjoy sitting around my fore pit with my friends and chatting and telling lies.
I can remember having my firist cigat at 16 when my cousins took me to a peeler bar during a family runion, and i have been enjoying them on and off for years. i just started to really get into them as my doc told me i need to find a way to relax and i dont drink.
I joined this forum coz when i was looking at other sites, they seem to "stuck up" and "way to serious" for me and everyone here seems to be cool and have a great time.
I have used this name for ever as i find its the only one out there like it and everyone can remeber it. I got the idea for it when i was having a LAN party and austin powers gold member was on the t.v. I needed a user name and it just came to me. And the avatar coz its just a funny picture i found on the internet and thats the one i choose.
My wife dosnet really like me smoking cigars but she has said than im in a way better mood when i come in from having one that i did when i went out befoer i had one..

Hello CG world, been meaning to post my intro since I saw the thread, so here goes!
My name is Karl Frigan, I'm 35 years old and I live in Montreal, Quebec. I've lived here since 1985, moved out east from Vancouver, BC. I was born in Plymouth, England when my father was stationed there with the Canadian Navy. My parents went out there for a year, and it must've been a very romantic place! I work for IBM as a senior systems administrator, currently consulting for a bank. I am also a part-time high school math teacher, which might also count towards my hobbies. I teach adult/continuing education math courses for students that are looking to get their GED and/or complete pre-requisites for college or university.
I had my first cigar the summer after I graduated High School, it was a RyJ corona and was instantly taken by the hobby. Since I had no job and not much money, I didn't smoke much for the first few years, but University changed that in a hurry. I figured since I couldn't afford cigars every day, why not take up smoking cigarettes? Worst decision EVER! I am in a state of perpetual trying to quit cigarettes, but cigars will always be with me. I started collecting cigars in the late 90's when I bought a couple boxes off an internet auction site. Got myself a little humidor, filled that. Got a bigger humidor, and filled that one too. About 9 years ago I bought my current cabinet humidor, and I am seriously thinking of getting another (thanks in part to all you enablers!).
I am currently in a relationship with a wonderful lady, Jennifer. We just celebrated our 2nd year together last month. She is very tolerant of cigars, but has recently handed me an ultimatum about quitting cigarettes, so hopefully this time it'll stick. Otherwise, she has threatened my humidor... It scares me ;-)
My hobbies include the obvious collecting and smoking cigars, collecting and brewing beer, watching sports, playing rugby, woodworking, fishing, hiking, golf, traveling, cycling (though admittedly I haven't done much of that lately) and cooking (I have done LOTS of that lately). I also enjoy Whiskey and Wine, and have a modest collection of both. I play poker with a group of my friends once a week and we use it as an excuse to have a little herf.
I originally found this forum while looking for an inventory system for my cigar collection, and by the time I had entered them in, I was hooked. I really like finding a place on the impersonal internet where everyone is very friendly and enjoyable. I came for the virtual humidor, but stay for the banter! My girlfriend still finds it odd when I send off a package of cigars "to some random person", but she doesn't understand the camaraderie that has developed here.
My user name is a nickname I have had for many years. My avatar picture was taken the day I signed up on the forum while enjoying a Cohiba Siglo VI, a bottle of Allagash Curieux and watching golf.

I read through all of the posts on this thread, and it is such a great thing to put faces to names. I would post a picture, but I am in class right now and I don't have access to any. I'll post one when I get home.

Post by: lowpro75 on 06/12/2012 06:39 PM
So I guess it's not fair that I just fuk with people on this thread and not contribute my own info.
The format is:
1. Who you are, age, etc.
My name is Rich, I'm a 37 year old male.
2. How long you've been smoking cigars.
I've been smoking cigars regularly since 2007.  I would occasionally enjoy a cigar prior to that, maybe a couple times a year.  I really got into them when I started working with a couple of guys who were pretty into them.  I think I surpassed them in my enthusiasm but we will still get together to smoke a couple sticks.
3. Where you live and why.
I live in the suburbs of Philly.  I grew up less than 15 miles from where I live now, went to college even closer.  My wife grew up in the next town over which is pretty much why we settled here.
4. What you do for a living.
I just changed jobs a couple of months ago.  I'm Director of Revenue at a non profit that deals with residential and day services (including a school) for children and adults with disabilities.  Prior to that I was a Decision Support Specialist at a large urban university medical center.  I enjoy getting into health care debates because most people don't know shyt about how health care works, it's probably a lot more complex than you think and it needs to be.
5. Whatever you'd like to share about your family.
I have a wife who I've been married too for 12 years in October and 3 boys ages 10,7, and 5.  The 10 year old and 7 year old are on the autism spectrum.  We have a lot going on at home but its usually interesting, if not fun.
6. What your hobby's are.
I'm mostly into cigars and enjoy tinkering with computers at times.  I try to read and keep up to date with what is going on with the world.
7. Why you frequent this forum.
I don't know, I guess I feel the need to keep you guys in line.  Everyone here is great and doesn't take themselves too seriously.  Though I can dish it out at times I mostly take abuse, which is the way it should be.
8. Why you picked the user name you have.
I joined an aquarium forum years ago thinking that I would keep a low profile and just lurk.  I shortened it to lowpro and added my birth year.  I find it ironic now since I'm not good at keeping a low profile.

9. Why you picked the avatar you use.
I was inspired by a episode of the Simpsons where Kent Brockman was doing a story on Homer and the file photo of Homer Simpson was him with 100 cigarettes in his mouth.  I googled around and found this picture, of 2 guys doing in and just cropped out the one.  I love it.

10. Anything else ya want to tell us.
I may act like an a-hole at times but I generally mean no harm.  If I'm hard on someone I'm usually just bustin balls and if you don't like it you can send me a PM.  If someone's really out of line I don't mind calling them on it.

Ok my turn:

1. My name is Mark, I'm 25.
2. I've been smoking cigars for almost 2 years. A couple friends got me into it. I tried a few, decided I liked em and have been ramping it up from there.
3. I live in Concord, New Hampshire. For me its a good balance between work and where most of my friends and family live in Mass.
4. I'm an engineer for an MEP company, which is mechanical-electrical-plumbing. Most of my work is on a computer designing heat & A/C for buildings.
5. I'm single, no kids. I do have my parents and my younger sister.
6. Aside from cigars, I enojoy playing a little guitar, listening to music, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and also hockey. I play in a beer-league sort of thing and I follow my Bruins and Umass Lowell Riverhawks, which is where I went to school.
7. Originally, I was looking for something to tell me what cigars I had been buying, I was forgetting what line, size, etc and wanted to keep track. I mostly lurk but have been checking in more often.
8. My username is sort of a weird play- combines skiing with the fact that I am part Polish and my last name ends with -ski.
9. No avatar yet, I still need to come up with something good...

1.   Logan Lawler and I'm 28, but my personality would say I am still the 19 year old, idiot fraternity guy.  While my body would say it is 45 years old based on the lack physically activity of any kind.

2.   I had my first cigar in college in 2004.  An ex-girlfriend bought me my first desktop humidor and it has been a great ride since.

3.   Live in Austin, TX not because I am gun toting, oil loving, horse rider, but because it was the first place I got a job after I graduated college six years ago and I never left.

4.   I work for Dell, but my job has nothing to do with technology or computers at all.  I would try to explain it, but no one understands when I do.  Look at this link http://mashable.com/2010/12/08/dell-social-listening-center/.  I was previous part of this team, and recently was promoted to sell social media as a service.

5.   Married in June of 2011 to my wife Ally.  She is great, but sometimes she doesn't think I am great.

6.   Disc golf, travelling, and anything that doesn't involve physical activity.

7.   I really like the passes and I think I learn more about cigars here vs. other social media platforms like Twitter.

8.   It was the name of my first cigar blog, but I wish I could change it.

9.   Easy, I look dead sexy in that picture.

10.   Last time I checked I have over 1000 cigars, I am slowly starting to loath Cigars International, I work more than I should, can't spell, have horrible grammar, I love my Labradoodle Truman, try not to make the same mistake twice, and would rather talk in front of 1000 people vs. write a client an email.

10. ... I am slowly starting to loath Cigars International

Inquiring minds would like to know why?

Couple of reasons.  First, I think they shipping is terrible and many times their cigars arrived damaged.  I know you can get them replaced for free, but it is just a hassle.  Second, CigarBid.com is pretty much CI Jr. and IMHO has better prices most of the time and it a lot more fun.  Finally, I have started to purchase more boutique cigars and they don't carry a lot of them.

Well now that I have read up on everyone I suppose sharing is the word of the day.

My name is Pete and I turned 51 last month. I have been smoking cigars for about 12 years. Currently I don't know where I live due to a recent breakup of an 8 year relationship. I'm hanging in Florida for the moment and could end up anywhere...LOCK YOUR DOORS! Currently I do not know what I do for a living...sort of in limbo right now. I am a qualified professional chef, educator, landscaper, caterer, renovator and have worked for myself since the late 80's. I have been a volunteer crime fighter in the past for 12 years. I have developed anti gang and anti drug educational programs for teens and preteens in the projects of New York City, and some NYC schools and I lived and worked in NYC for 12 years. I have a BA in criminology from Florida State. Hobbies include metal detecting, traveling, vagabonding, stamp collecting, eating, and staying fit. I hang out here because I like it. My user name is an old one from back in the day when a screen saver of mine had a jungle seen on it...so I picked junglepete. My avatar is my ex's dog Malik...I used to think of him as my dog as well but I guess that will change soon. Life goes on.

6.   What your hobby's are.
***Besides cigars, I've been playing guitar since I was 13 or so. I lead worship at our church here in rural AR. I do anything outdoors including fishing, hunting, and camping. Your a man of steel Pete!

I'm struggling!
Title: RE: 2012 Cigar Geeks Introductions
Post by: Hot Stuff x on 06/13/2012 10:32 PM

Not much has changed since the last one of these I did.

By the way, some of us follow each other on Facebook (that's FaceSpace for you, Bob).  For anyone that's interested, i'm at http://www.facebook.com/lpchamness (http://www.facebook.com/lpchamness)

1. My name's Les and I'm 47 years old.

2.   I've been smoking cigars for just over 4 years now, and really got into it just a few months after starting out.  I had a few friends that smoked cigars, but had not been interested in trying it.  I was never a cigarette smoker, and my only previous experience with cigars was with White Owls and the short filler drug store brands.  When I was living in Texas I had a good friend who was a retired chef, and he would host dinner parties.  Afterwards we'd retire to the patio for some fine cognac and cigars. After a couple times they convinced me to try a good cigar, and I really liked it -- and now I maintain a stash of about 1000 cigars.

3 & 4.  I'll combine these two because they're related.  I have lived and worked in Seoul, South Korea since July 2008.   I moved here right after I retired from 23 years of service in the Army, and I'm currently employed by a small company that has a contract to provide services to U.S. Forces Korea.  My job is a bit difficult to describe to people who aren't in the telecommunications business, but my job title is network operations analyst. Basically I'm part of a team that makes sure all communications assets (telephone, internet, etc) used by the U.S. and partner forces here in Korea are operational, and we provide reports and analysis to the military leadership here.  My place of birth is East St. Louis, Illinois, and most of my family lives between St. Louis and southeast Missouri (the  "bootheel" region").  However, I moved around a lot over the years, even as a kid, and have spent about an equal amount of time living in Texas, Georgia, Nebraska, and across the river from St. Louis (in Illinois).  Adding up the time I've lived in Korea, I've been here a total of 8 years (includes two tours with the Army, the first in 1987-89), so I've lived in Korea longer than anywhere else I've been.  My "permanent residence", for tax and immigration purposes, is Belton, Texas, and that's usually where I tell people I'm from.  Everyone knows Texas, but if I say I'm from St. Louis, I usually get this:

5. I got separated from my former wife about 7 1/2 years ago, and have been officially divorced for about 5 years.  I have a girlfriend that I've been shacking up with for 4 years now, and I'm under a little pressure (mostly from her family) to tie the knot. I've been stalling, but I need to do the right thing, so I will probably be getting married within the next 6 months to a year.  I guess I'm a bit worried about getting married again as I like things the way they are, but we get along great.  She's really sweet, a lot of fun, and we always get along well.  I have a daughter attending St. Edward's university in Austin, Texas.  She just turned 20 this month.

6. My main hobby is motorcycle touring.  I ride all over Korea, and I'm a ride leader/organizer in a local motorcycle riding club. I also enjoy cooking and grilling, although my kitchen sucks.  Will be happy to get back to the land of full size ovens. I don't even have an oven right now -- most Koreans either don;t have them, or never use them.  I'm on a bowling team that meets on Friday nights, and I've been doing that for the past 4 years.  I tried joining a bowling league when I was in the Army, but I was never able to finish a season due to deployments.

7. When I first started getting serious about this hobby, i wanted to learn more and to socialize with other BOTL's/SOTL's, and I joined and participated in a few different forums. I stuck with this one because it seemed more friendly and inviting, and it didn't seem to be huge and overbearing like some other sites. It's plenty active, but not so much that you can't keep up with everything that's going on. It's like the bar in the TV show Cheers ...  "where everybody knows your name".

8.   My last tour of duty in the Army was at Fort Hood, Texas.  I went there knowing that I would be deploying to Iraq within about 6 months, so instead of renting an apartment (and dealing with a lease, etc) I checked the want ads and rented a room at the home of a guy who, like me, was recently divorced.  Difference was he got to keep his house.  Anyway, when the time came to go to Iraq, I put my personal property into storage.  When I came back to Texas, I contacted the guy I had rented from before, and he had sold his house. But lucky for me, his older brother had a big house on the lake, and as he was recently divorced, had plenty of room.  We became great friends, and while living there I developed a reputation of being a ladies man, and also of cooking up some really spicy cuisine. So my friend gave me the name "Hot Stuff".  He was also a cigar and pipe smoker, and was influential in starting me down this path.

9. My current avatar is the comic book character "Hot Stuff, the little devil".  When I first started on this site my avatar was Groucho Marx smoking a cigar and rolling his eyes, I just thought it was funny.  Then for a while I had "the most interesting man in the world".  But i like the Hot Stuff avatar, and don't plan on changing it again.

10. I think I've said enough already!

Here I am enjoying a Man O' War Virtue

It's like the bar in the TV show Cheers ...  "where everybody knows your name"

 :word:

And where else can you find informative little tidbits such as this?

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

Now, I have enough information for the profiling needed....to fill the database.

The format is:
1. Who you are, age, etc.

Mark Lange = almost 1/2 a century this August.

2. How long you've been smoking cigars.

Since 2009 - since Cuba has become a favorite destination point.

3. Where you live and why.

London Ontario, because I was dragged out here from the West. Still don't like the East too flat.

4. What you do for a living.

Work for a company that went broke then bought our facility and miraculous made 1 billion this quarter but stripped all our benefits and anything worthwhile to the individual. Then are in the process of going after our pension fund.....go figure. You can guess since its policy not to mention it or I could be fired....well what could be worse. Oh ya I run control room robot systems plant wide.

5. Whatever you'd like to share about your family.

30 years married to the same lady that keeps me in check and still loves me for all my faults - which are many such as cigars...big one. Oh ya have 2 grown kids now out of the house for the second time and hopeful the last....my daughter is a teacher and my son who is still recovering from the truck hit is doing great at university and 1 more year to go. Then he can look after me for once.

6. What your hobby's are.

Many, cigars, hockey, electronics, fishing with dynamite, hunting, movies, sci-fi crap - oh ya Aliens are out there....., feeding the racoons out back.

7. Why you frequent this forum.

Found the humor to my liking and the information great plus there is this guy here I made him say he was a girl......that was the best and some call him a big......something or other. He does have a good sense of humor but the pole & midget's are better.

8. Why you picked the user name you have.

Fathers call sign when he was a fighter pilot for the Germans in WWII.

9. Why you picked the avatar you use.

It is the picture of Proto-type SS car the company gave me for the day before it was made production ready put 1500 miles on it from 7 AM till midnight that day - I will buy one when I can. Had it at 200 miles per hour used a lot of gas that day on the road on the 401 then they told me they were checking the block box for data....damn. Luckily, I didn't get pulled over otherwise the car would have been impounded for a 1 week while I would be at court......it would have been worth it though.

10. Anything else ya want to tell us.

Played over 20 years of hockey and body is paying for it now.
We have 2 fat 8 year old rescued cats - one likes to play with cigars and I use him to do the picks sometimes. Jinks has  main coon in him we believe and he eats anything and begs like a dog. He likes lettuce and asparagus with Italian sausage. The other one Boots well doesn't beg and will have a cat conversation with you very funny actually.

I'll post a pic later. kinda worried what will happen to it though....that making a guy say he is girl thing may still run raw.

I thought we had a thread like this some time ago, but here it goes:

My name is Don Miller and I just turned 50 years young, I am still a kid at heart

I have been smoking cigars for about 5 or 6 years now.  I had a friend sort of get me started while I was still smoking cigarettes.  He smoked more inexpensive cigars, or yard gars as we usually classify them.  I didn't take  me long to quit the cigareetes and develop a palate for the more refined cigar.  He eventually quit smoking cigars al together due to health problems

I live in Largo Florida which is in the Tampa Bay area, I am about 10 minutes from the beach.  I have lived here since I retired from the Army and love it!   I also have a second home in Crystal River where I keep my boat for fishing, swimming etc.  Its a weekend getaway home, we get away from the big city and get back to the small town atmosphere.  I like bbqing, swimming rafting boating, fishing, the list goes on.  I have a 21 year old daughter from a previous marriage ( ex's are ex's for a reason)  She lives locally and see her when I fit her schedule hahah!

I work at a small Automotive shop and we do Penske leasing as well.  I am not getting rich but I am not poor either and make a living.  As stated before I am Retired Army, a Motor Sergeant by skill.

My  user name IS my name no guess work there, the avatar I am using I found and used a little touching up, I thought was a pretty cool drawing and it was cigar related.  The reason I keep coming back to CG?  There are alot of good guys on here with alot of reviews and knowledge.  I learned alot about cigars here and with a few of our resident comedians its pretty entertaining around here

Enough about me, I will ost a pic later

So my friend gave me the name "Hot Stuff".  He was also a cigar and pipe smoker, and was influential in starting me down this path.

9. My current avatar is the comic book character "Hot Stuff, the little devil".  When I first started on this site my avatar was Groucho Marx smoking a cigar and rolling his eyes, I just thought it was funny.  Then for a while I had "the most interesting man in the world".  But i like the Hot Stuff avatar, and don't plan on changing it again.

10. I think I've said enough already!

1.   My name is nick Rose and I'm 28 years old

2.   I've been into cigars for about 5 or 6 years. Akira got me into them and is to blame for my addiction to them.

3.   I live in San Francisco and love it! We're right next to golden Gate Park, tons of killer food within a block or two, and one of the best microbreweries within stumbling distance from my home. Originally though from the Lake Tahoe are.

4.   I work for SAP as a Development Consultant. I do custom development for customers and work with our partners to build up our ecosystem and enable them to develop on our platform. Really, I just get paid to bulls**t and code. Love it!

5.   My wife and and have been together almost 9 years, married close to 3 of those. No kids yet, still practicing. We have a orange tabby Juno and our golden Retrieve Zoe. Zoe is form the same litter as Akira's dog Taiko. It's a good excuse to get together and let them play while we enjoy a stoggie.

6.   I enjoy golf, beer & wine, and most recently I have gotten back into Homebrewing! I love brewing and am always chomping at the bit to start my next batch. Tomorrow is a Black IPA :D.

7.   I signed on here because Akira wouldn't shut up about this place. I decided to finally come on and saw what he was talking about. this place is full of awesome geeks and tons of knowledge! I've been fairly inactive the past year due to a new job, but someday I'll get back to spouting garbage on here non-stop.

8.   I love video games and wanted to pay homage to the system that started it all, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Tek comes from my technical background and a website that I got for myself and never built.

9.   I started looking for cigar pics and saw this one. I'm a huge fan of Monopoly and loved seeing Rich uncle Pennybags smoking a cigar. Had to use it!

10.   Below is a pic of my wife and I . The other one of my favs with Akira, myself, our wives, and their friend; all of us tailgating for a 49ers game. We're big fans and I'm already pumped for the next season!

My turn in da barrel...probably more than you want to know but...

1. Who you are, age, etc.  Carl...Fitty-seven

2. How long you’ve been smoking cigars.  About 6 months and I'm making up for lost time. Went tobacco free (cigarettes) for 28 years from concerns for my young daughters. Decided one night I was quitting cigarettes after listening to my baby girl coughing while trying to sleep. Went cold turkey...laid em down and never looked back. Maybe she just had a coughing spell she grew out of later but it worked for me.

3. Where you live and why.  Kentucky boy from the slap on the butt & the first breath. Lived in southeast Kentucky county where the highest point in the county was named after my family ancestors. Love the mountains, the woods, the rivers and the deep, clear lakes. Recently moved a little north to the Bluegrass region...horse country...to be close to my 2 wonderful grandkids from my oldest daughter & her husband. Baby girl lives near as well. Family's important. Nothing's more important...no matter what.

4. What you do for a living.  I transport automobiles via full-size stinger-steered carrier as an owner/operator under my own authority issued by the now-defunct Interstate Commerce Commission. 50 % of my customers are Africa and Middle East based dealers or individuals. I concentrate on the Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana area for origin and take 9 or 10 cars, trucks, SUV's or vans to the port in Delaware where they put them on an auto carrying vessel. The other half of my work is the return trip home from the Delaware/New Jersey area to an established dealer about 1/2 mile from my local B&M and 15 miles from my front porch where I enjoy most of my cigars. Been doing the "portable parking lot" thing for about 36 years...Dad did it, brothers did it...it's a family thing. Still enjoy the driving aspect and the whole truckin' thing after all these years. When I get on a horse, I tend to ride it till it's dead.

5. Whatever you’d like to share about your family.  I married my high school sweetheart, the first girl I ever kissed, in '72 after USAF basic training in San Antonio . She was homecoming queen and I was her escort her senior year. She was a preacher's daughter and yes it's true they are the meanest. (She don't read this forum so I can say that safely). Come November this year (2012), we will enjoy our 40th anniversary together...probably with a good cigar or 2 I'm sure. 40 years with one woman is a long time, especially a Kentucky girl...but we're working on the next 40. I will refrain from using the horse riding till dead adage in this instance. Have been blessed with 2 of Kentucky's finest daughters...the oldest giving us 2 of Kentucky's finest grandkids. The oldest & her husband are pastors of a church in the area. Baby girl is still single and is a national trainer for a Catholic Health organization.

My family...

6. What your hobby’s are.  Fishing, hunting, old cars, big trucks, custom motorcycles (creating them...not so much riding them anymore), reading, writing and of course, cigars.

A little Kentucky-sized bass jerked outta one of them clear lakes in Kentucky

A little Triumph custom project I've got to finish someday

(http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p172/moonshine_steel/vegas_judging.jpg)<P> Showing & explaining the custom Triumph turbo/friction-drive bike on Fremont Street in Vegas to the judges for the "rookie" class  Mark Daley of ThunderStruck Custom Choppers, etc.

My first ground-up custom project...a Triumph fuel-injected, turbocharged, friction-drive pro-street

(http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p172/moonshine_steel/Car%20Carriers/crossfires-1.jpg) What I do for a living...

7. Why you frequent this forum.  From the time I intro'd at the front door of the Geeks, I was made to feel welcome. Now that might have just been standard operating procedure around here but you see what it's got you now. You can't run me off. I initially found the Cigar Geeks when I Googled a search for some ideas to help me create a spreadsheet and log for my cigar obsession.

8. Why you picked the user name you have.  Gar...you know. Car...reps my first name.

9. Why you picked the avatar you use.  That's my first grade pic with a little animated PhotoShopping.

10. Anything else ya want to tell us.  Keep on truckin'...no matter what.

Jose that is really cool...Are you throwing pottery on a wheel???  or are you sculpting more through slabs and molds???   I did more slab sculpture when I was in college..I didn't throw too much.  Most of my stuff was definitely more sculpture based and not practical in the sense of of most pottery.  And I didn't use too many glazes prefering the natural look of the dry fired white clay mostly....every now and then I would use a glaze or raku....You will have to tell me about the clays and glazes you have been using...

1.  Who you are, age, etc.

Chris Zaccagnini, 36

2.  How long you've been smoking cigars.

I have been smoking cigars since 2004.  I picked up the hobby a few months after I quit Cigarettes.

3.  Where you live and why.

I live in Southern Suburbs of Memphis, Tn.  My house is actually in Mississippi.  I moved down here a few years ago to be closer to family.  My Wifes family has been here for some time.  I am originally from the North.  I was born in Detroit and then moved to Chicago before High school and lived there for almost 20 years.

I like the winters in the south and the lack of taxes, but I really miss Chicago.

4.  What you do for a living.

I am in IT.  I have been in this business since 1995.  My current Job has me doing IT infrastructure engineering and support.  I primarily work in my companies Data Center supporting our Network, Vmware Cluster and SAN.  I also fill in on Win/Tel server support and the occasional desktop support issue if our help desk is short handed.

I have been married to my wife Amy since 2004 and have two daughters aged 4 (Sofia) & 2 (Lily).

6.  What your hobby's are.

Cigars, competition BBQ and Hot Rods/Muscle Cars.  Cigars and BBQ get my most attention from a hobby perspective.  Once the girls are older, I will get another car.  I traded in my last firebird on a Family truckster, albeit a truckster with some LS power (2008 Chevy trailblazer SS with the LS2 motor).  I really want to build a Duece Coupe.

7.  Why you frequent this forum.

I enjoy the site as a whole.  The reviews sucked me in, and the people, passes, & Critiques keep me around.

8.  Why you picked the user name you have.

People call me this all the time, since many can't pronounce my last name correctly.

9.  Why you picked the avatar you use.

I love the Chicago Bears.  NFL is my favorite sport to watch, and the bears are my team.

10. Anything else ya want to tell us.

Can I get off this damn couch and smoke a cigar yet??  :)

Post by: szyzk on 07/27/2012 09:26 PM
Great idea for a thread! I kinda went over some of this stuff in my intro post, but I'll do it again!

1.   Who you are, age, etc.

I'm Andrew, 32 years old

2.   How long you've been smoking cigars.

I've been "seriously" smoking cigars for about five years now, but I started occasionally smoking them on my 18th birthday. I've been "serious" about pipe smoking for about two years.

3.   Where you live and why.

Warren, Pennsylvania (near the northwest corner of the state) although I was born in Yuma, Arizona. My grandparents moved here in the 1950s from Buffalo, and I've been living here since I was very young. After college I came back to figure out what I wanted to do with myself and before I knew it I met the girl who would eventually become my wife. We stuck around to help take care of my grandparents, because we both have very fulfilling jobs here, and because we both love the outdoors (being minutes away from the National Forest is wonderful).

4.   What you do for a living.

I'm blessed to work at a B&M and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

5.   Whatever you'd like to share about your family.

I have a beautiful wife, Beth, and no kids yet - just a few cats.

6.   What your hobby's are.

Cigars, cigars, pipes, cigars. I also enjoy reloading for handguns, spending time shooting handguns, hiking & camping, music (I played bass in a band for quite a few years), movies/cinema, and brewing beer (and, obviously, drinking it)... I'm a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Cleveland Cavaliers, and despite a busy schedule I try to stay active at my local Elks lodge (one of the last few stag lodges in the US).

7.   Why you frequent this forum.

It's wonderful how calm and respectful everyone here is, and how welcoming you guys seem to be with smokers of all stages of the hobby.

8.   Why you picked the user name you have.

It's actually the my last name, but shortened!

9.   Why you picked the avatar you use.

It was the most recent cigar photo I had taken, so the file was still on my desktop.

10.   Anything else ya want to tell us.

I could happily survive on Tatuajes & Illusiones if those were the last two companies producing cigars, and Hamborger Veermaster pipe tobacco if it was the last.

Post by: Clavius on 07/27/2012 10:15 PM
1.  My name is Matt and I'm 27 years old.

2.  I've been smoking cigars seriously for a few months now.

3.  I live in Lexington, KY.

4.  I work retail and I'm an occasional student at the University of Kentucky.

5.  No kids, unmarried.

6.  I love wine and spirits, particularly bourbon.  I'm also into music, movies and reading.  I play a little guitar but haven't picked one up in awhile.

7.  This forum seems like it has a bunch of great, knowledgeable people.  And I love the cigar database!

8.  Clavius is actually the name of the moon base in the film and book 2001: A Space Odyssey.

9.  My avatar is Pappy Van Winkle smoking a cigar.  For those not into bourbon, the Pappy Van Winkle line is some of the finest (and hardest to find) bourbon whiskey around.

10.  Being relatively new to cigars the best thing I've smoked so far has been a Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo.  I've smoked a few other Padrons as well and they all seem like quality sticks, so I guess I'm a Padron fan.  Someday I hope to smoke a quality cuban cigar.  Not so much for the forbidden fruit factor but to honestly see if there is a difference.

Thanks!
